Do you all remember life back before the words pandemic, lockdown, quarantine, social distancing, and new normal were not in our every day vocabulary? A life where we took complete advantage of all sorts of modern conveniences. A life where we thought it was difficult to keep up with all the hustle and bustle of modern day responsibilities. A life when you could order something online and no matter where in the world it was coming from it would be on your doorstep within a week or two.

This is where the story of my green lace trimmed corduroy blazer from Rosegal begins. I ordered this fun piece back in February or March of this year…exactly around the time when the whole world shut down. And then my corduroy blazer never arrived. I messaged customer service multiple times about my order and was informed that all shipments would be delayed indefinitely due to the global pandemic.

Of course, I was understanding and in no way upset with Rosegal. After all, none of us have any control of what is going on in the world right now. I was reassured that my blazer would be shipped once all restrictions had been lifted. And it was. Sometime in the middle of summer, I received my new green corduroy blazer. The exact timing I cannot recount as I am still very much living in a time warp clouded by pot smoke and mood swings.

So when my blazer arrived in the middle of summer, I wondered who the heck is going to wear a corduroy blazer in the swampy summer heat? Certainly not I. So it would have to wait for cooler weather before I could wear and share it.

During my long wait, I read a post that my dear friend Michelle of My Bijou Life had written in which she talked about a blazer that she had ordered at the beginning of the lockdown period that did not arrive until midsummer as well. And she certainly had no intention of styling her new blazer in the sweltering heat of a Las Vegas summer.

However, it made me laugh that we were both in the same predicament with our new blazers. So I pitched the idea to Michelle to collaborate on this blazer post. She was happy to oblige my whim and so we decided it was best to wait at least until November when Las Vegas cools enough for blazers and layers. And now here we are…sharing these fun blazer outfits.

I am in a serious swoon over Michelle’s bold paisley blazer and those amazing green shoes of hers! Do be sure to hop on over to her post to see the details of her magnificent new pieces.

Now onto my blazer…I ordered a 2X as I generally do from retailers like Rosegal. I have very broad shoulders and a large bust which makes blazers a bit difficult to get the proper fit. If I want the option of buttoning a blazer or wearing a sweater underneath, I have to size up. When my blazer arrived in midsummer and I tried it on, it actually fit perfectly.

And then I lost nearly 20 pounds. Not that I’m complaining about the weight loss. It was much needed and long overdue. But it also made my cute new blazer look like I was a little kid playing dress up in clothing that is much too large. I did my best to balance the oversized blazer with a black fit and flare dress, some sassy seamed stockings, velvet shoes, and lots of silver bling.

Here is a look at the dress without the blazer.

As for the blazer itself, I tried to belt it, cinch it, and pin it in the back to make it look like it fits properly. But alas, I do believe the only solution would be to have it tailored. I think I might like the blazer well enough to invest in tailoring so that I can wear it with more confidence.

But who the heck knows when I will get around to that? I suppose until then I may just embrace it as an oversized boyfriend blazer. I am sure I can come up with some cute casual ways to style it in that manner.

Do you have items that were significantly delayed by the pandemic early on that arrived too late? I am sure there are some interesting and silly stories out there. Certainly, Michelle and I are not the only ones.

I cannot believe that it took that long for your order to arrive. Of course, we, in Australia, also have our parcels delayed but usually it’s just a couple of weeks and definitely not months :). Having said that I do love this teal colour of your blazer, Shelbee and it looks ok over structured dress like the one you are wearing. Those stocking are fabulous

Anna, thanks so much! Well, I believe the delay had everything to do with Covid lockdowns as the products were being shipped from China. I think I ordered it right as China went on full lockdown for however long that lasted. The company was great about keeping me informed though, so I can’t really complain in this situation. I really appreciate the lovely compliment!

Shelbee, you look absolutely gorgeous! I think the skater style dress is just made for you, with your gorgeous curves (I’m so envious of those curves!). And the jacket with hints of lace is divine—it’s a shame that it’s a bit too big now, but I definitely think it warrants a trip to the tailors! I bet you’ll get loads of wear out of it. As for the stockings, well…VA VA VOOM!! You look super sexy! I bet your hubby enjoyed seeing you wearing them lol.
I love the blue velvet jacket you linked to, and Jess’s burgundy one is stunning as well (you can’t get enough velvet, in my opinion).
Aren’t Michelle’s green boots absolutely divine, by the way?!
Huge hugs from a grey day in Portugal (I do love grey days though!)

Suzy, thank you so much! I do tend to gravitate toward skater style dresses because they give me a bit of waistline! I have curves everywhere else except my waist and butt! And yes, Jeff really did like the stockings. You should have heard the comments coming out of his mouth when he was taking these photos! Oh and that first blue blazer that I linked from Rosegal is actually a tiny little corduroy fabric but it is super soft like velvet…I have that one, too! You can see how I styled it here. And I am in a complete swoon over Michelle’s green booties! Sending you hugs right back from a rather gray day in New York!

What a brilliant weight loss Shelbee, looking fabulous! I lost just 8 lbs during the lockdown but as everyone else seemed to gain, then I felt an achievement.

I am a big fan of tailoring to fit, most things swamp me if they don’t fit properly and make me look/feel short and fat! One of my lockdown tasks has been to put anything to one side that I’m not comfortable with and either ‘fit’ or out. Fortunately, I have a wonderful lady close to me who is very reasonably priced but if you have to source a tailor it can be an expensive option!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Pamela, thanks so much! I did gain about 10 pounds early on in the lockdown period. And then my body somehow settled into a sort of time restricted fasting schedule. I think it was mostly due to anxiety at first, but now I am really only hungry and wanting to eat between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Apparently, this type of intermittent fasting is great for controlling caloric intake. I am not complaining! I had found a local seamstress a few years ago who is very reasonably priced so I may reach out to her for some minor tailoring needs. I think I need to clean out my closet first and make piles like you do!

Haha, I had it with earrings, so that is not that bad. But it took 3 months to arrive. But the color is gorgeous Shelbee, so I definitely would alter it. Looking sexy in those hosiery, is that the correct word? Gerben always wants me to wear those, but they are so damn cold!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Nancy! It was the color that sold me on this blazer! I think I do need to shop around for someone to tailor it for me. And yes, hosiery is the correct word! You should wear a pair for Gerben, just don’t go outside in the cold! It is okay to reserve some sexy things to wear just at home or in the bedroom! Haha.

Thanks so much, Kathrine! I always enjoy a good blogger collaboration for no reason at all! Why not share the love and support our friends, right? I need to write a post about the weight loss because I inadvertently discovered the benefits of intermittent fasting for weight loss. Coming soon to the blog, I think! Have a fabulous day.

Thanks so much, Mireille! The wait didn’t really stress me out at that time since we were all on complete lockdown anyway. I spent those first few months in jammies! It might stress me out now…especially if it is Christmas presents that I am waiting for!

Wowzers, looking oh so very sweet (with all do respect). Very sassy and playful. Love it. The seemed stockings are the perfect touch.

Thanks for hosting and here is something funny, I haven’t really ordered much on-line since this stuff has began.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Patrick, thanks so much, my friend! The stockings are Jeff’s favorite accessory in this outfit, too! Haha. I have been ordering most things online because I am too much of a Nervous Nelly to venture into very many stores!

I must say that blazer was worth the wait!! It is stunning and the lace detail takes it over the top!!! Love it!! But I must say those stockings 😍 they are classy and sexy!! I will definitely be ordering those!!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Lisa! It was worth waiting for this pretty blazer, for sure! And sassy stockings are always fun! I have a few pairs of thigh highs like these. If you do order similar ones, make sure they have the gripper stuff at the top otherwise they will always slide down on you!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Ratnamurti! The color is what sold me on this blazer. And the stockings were a last minute change because the first few pairs of black stockings I pulled out had runs! So I got frustrated and went with the sassy thigh high stockings! I guess that worked out for the best as well.

Thanks so much, Shauna! I like your perspective! Even if I had received my blazer in March or April, that was when we are all sitting around in our jammies every day anyway! But when my blazer did arrive, I hung it prominently at the front of my closet, waiting excitedly for it to cool down enough to style it! I would touch its soft fabric every time I opened the closet door! Haha. So silly. But I do love all of my clothes like they are cherished objects!

Your blazer looks really good, even if a bit large. I’m in the same predicament with my blazer because I lost 18 pounds over the summer (not due to hard work, but due to the right dosage of thyroid meds). But I think I can get away with it being a little loose since it’s wild and boho-ish. And given that it’s not lined, I could probably make some adjustments at the seams if needed. Or add some darts.

Love the way you styled your blazer. Just the right pop of color over your black dress and tights. This was a such fun collaboration! Thank you for initiating it!

Thanks so much, Michelle! This was so much fun! I didn’t do any hard work to lose the weight either. I give all the weight loss credit to stress and anxiety! But it did force me into intermittent fasting which is helpful for maintaining my weight. You look amazing with that new thyroid medicine and your blazer definitely works with an oversized fit because it is so bohemian. I wonder how it would look belted with one of your cute colorful wide belts! This was a fun collaboration. I am glad we did it!

I have an order in limbo for more face masks for my son and I’m wondering when in the world it’ll arrive (or if it is lost in nether nether land). Lol. Ohh, I love the color of this blazer and your pumps! So cute!

Thanks so much, Carrie! I am sorry your face masks are delayed! That is super annoying! Speaking of face masks though, you just reminded that Ralphie requested face masks from his favorite YouTuber’s merchandise line for Christmas. I have to get on ordering those so they arrive in time for Christmas! I hope you are having a great week despite the missing mask order!

Ha, yes, I had several packages sitting on my desk at work for several months until I was allowed back into the building (in June!) to pick them up. It was kind of fun, actually—I had ordered vitamins, wine, and a sweater! Hoping 2nd lockdown doesn’t delay holiday packages!
    Cheryl Shops | http://www.cherylshops.net

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh no, Cheryl, that would be even more frustrating to know that your packages had arrived but you couldn’t get to them! This second lockdown just forced a cancelation of our Thanksgiving plans, so I sure hope it doesn’t delay holiday packages arriving!

I can sure relate to something arriving late due to the pandemic. (As you say, all new vocabulary today!) We are still waiting for bedroom furniture that was supposed to take 3-4 weeks–that was 6 months ago! I actually donated our other furniture and we lived out of boxes until this nice store loaned me a dresser and two nightstands! How about that? It’s supposed to arrive at the end of this month, but so far crickets. So who knows? It’s a strange year all the way around, to be sure.

I like your jacket as an oversized boyfriend blazer!! As you say, you can wear a big bulky sweater under it, too! Or that sexy number you have on in these photos. Love it!

    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thanks so much! It is a good blazer and definitely worth the wait. I cannot believe you are still waiting for your furniture 6 months later! That is ridiculous! But also very cool that a store loaned some furniture to you while you are waiting. This new furniture better be all that is expected once it finally arrives! That is really long wait. I hope it arrives soon. We are halfway through the month!

The most amazing thing about your outfits, Shelbee, is that they are all so fabulously different. I love them all – of course! But there’s something about the simple elegance of this one that really appeals. The blazer is so lovely against the black canvas, the dress is just a perfect shape on you, the necklace is made for this look, and the stockings are seamed – as a lover of seams I’ll say no more!! K

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Karen, thank you so much for this wonderful comment! I definitely have never settled into one strict style genre and love to play dress up however the mood strikes me on any given day.
