The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Tulle

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

The theme for May is Tulle and apparently it was a rather difficult prompt because we only had two submissions this month! A huge thank you to both Sheila and Jodie for participating with their fun looks in tulle!

*If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post! If you don’t see your photo on either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions can get lost in the shuffle.

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style

“This tulle and lace skirt was a dress! It’s pre loved but was a bit snug so I had it altered. However, I think the skirt is a bit short for me. Is it a Good-Bye? Not yet, it’s such a gorgeous skirt. It has beautiful cobalt flowers attached on the lace and the tulle skirt is in layers. So I hang on to it for a while! Perhaps styled with blue boots will do the trick for me!”

“This is one of a few of what I refer to as “floofy underskirts” that I have owned over the years – I bought this Noa Noa black underskirt in 2010 for $27.95, and it’s wonderful for fluffing out a full skirt. It is lined, with a layer of black tulle netting trimmed with three rows of double-layer ruffles for extra floof-itude. Here, I’m sporting a Mad Hatter vibe in this outfit, which is appropriate as I attended an outdoor tea party to celebrate birthdays of several of my dear friends.”

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style

“Here’s my photo with the same black tulle skirt that I sent to Nancy…but this time I wore it under a shorter skirt!! Goes to show they can be more versatile than you think!!”

Jodie

And me!

I am going to share a few different outfits featuring tulle since we had so few outfits submitted this month. Tulle is such a fun way to get in touch with not only your femininity but it helps me stay connected to my inner child, too. I think both are necessary to live my very best life!

“I layered a full black tulle skirt underneath this fun kitten dress to add a bit of floofitude, as Sheila calls it! I found this skirt at Charlotte Russe a few years back and paid less than $5 for it. It was definitely a Good Buy because I wear it frequently. You can see it styled on its own here.

Shelbee

“This red tulle skirt is another Good Buy. I love how romantic red tulle can be! This is fun skirt for any time of year as well!”

Shelbee

“I don’t remember where or when I acquired this silver tulle mini skirt. But it is a Good Buy and I have had lots of fun styling it over the years.”

Shelbee

“A post about tulle keeping me in touch with my femininity and my inner child has to include one of my favorite outfits featuring a formal gown with a tulle underskirt. I created this outfit for a post titled, The Fab 40’s Meet My Inner Child. This dress has a long story, but it began as a Good Buy then became a bad buy but I never said Good-Bye to it. I had purchased it for an Army Prom back at the end of 2009 when I was pregnant with Archie. I tried it on the weekend before the event and it fit with a bit of room. I was so excited to wear it for the event. But when I tried it on again the day before the event, apparently my pregnant belly popped and I could not even zip the dress half way! I was so frustrated that I had to go buy a formal maternity dress the day before. It was the first time I was actually prepared ahead of time…and ended up being less prepared than ever! I couldn’t wear the dress but as you probably know, you can never return formal wear for some reason and so it just hung in my closet. Eventually I did wear it to a formal wedding in 2015 and was so happy! Then it was returned to storage in my basement and now it’s all smelly like the basement so I just keep it for random blogging occasions or Halloween costumes!”

And now won’t you please stop by Nancy’s post for more tulle inspiration!

Up Next…Nautical

The theme for June’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book will be Nautical. Won’t you join us next month with some of your favorite (or least favorite) Nautical styles. Remember to include a brief description about your submissions. Please submit your photos and descriptions by the 10th of June to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com so we can put you in the spotlight!

I don’t own any tulle! Otherwise I would have sent something in. I had to pop over and tell you that I just loved the pretty pink/peachy tulle shirt you showcased in Nancy’s post. It definitely reminded me of something from Sex & the City! Though the read and silver skirts look great too.

Aw, thanks so much, Joanne! I think this is exactly the reason we didn’t have very many submissions this month…I think not very many women have tulle. I do love it its femininity and kind of wish I had a bit more tulle. Hopefully you can join us next month with some nautical inspired pieces. Have a great weekend, my friend!

Well, how sad is that for only 2 of us. And interesting because I rarely wear mine under another skirt (in fact, this is the first time) yet Sheila did the same thing, and you showed one that way too. I always love getting such fun inspiration.

Jodie, thanks so much for joining us! I really liked that we shared all of these layering tricks with tulle skirts. I want to get a few fuller tutu styles skirts for layering as well. I love them under the vintage style dresses. Hopefully we get more participation for next month’s nautical theme!

I do believe you are correct, Mireille! But that’s okay! It was still a fun theme. I am going to struggle with the nautical theme for next month and will likely end up with mostly striped things! Thanks for stopping by!

Yup, I think tulle was a difficult one for folks to style. I’ve only had one other tulle skirt in my life and got rid of it many years ago, as it looked bland with only two layers of tulle.

Thank you so much for featuring me, Shelbee, and high fives out to Nancy, Jodi and you for “tulle”-tally pulling this theme off!

I’m excited about nautical – I have a pair of vintage sailor pants that might be making an appearance! Thanks so much for this fun feature!

Ah-ha, you are a master of puns, my friend, and I absolutely love it! I do believe you are correct that not much tulle appeared due to lack of tulle in the closets of many. I need a giant floofy tutu like yours! Actually, I kind of need maybe 8 or 10 in every color. I am so looking forward to your sailor pants! I am going to struggle with the nautical theme and may end up with just some stripes. Ha. I have some searching to do for this one. Maybe I have a scarf or something.

Nancy said I should have joined this month with my pink tulle dress but I didn’t because it was a gift! I feel a little guilty now. Perhaps I should have!! But seriously, I LOVE tulle but hardly have any of it in my wardrobe. In fact, I have literally just ordered a skirt so watch this space lol!
I love all your photos in your tulle, Shelbee. It’s such a YOU fabric! You look stunning!
    Have a fabulous week,
    Hugs

Thanks so much, Suzy! Yes, you should have joined us with your pink tulle dress! Oh well. Maybe you have some nautical to share for June. I do love the femininity of tulle and would like a really floofy tutu or eight like Sheila’s! I look forward to seeing your new skirt!

Aw, it’s okay, Rena. But I do look forward to some fabulous salty nautical outfits sailing into my inbox! Okay, okay, I failed at my pun attempt, but yours was pretty on point! Have a great weekend!
