The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Nautical

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

The theme for June is Nautical and while I struggled a little bit with this style genre, it was a really popular one with all of you. Thanks so much to everyone who joined us this month with their fun nautical inspired outfits.

*If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post! If you don’t see your photo on either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions can get lost in the shuffle.

Let’s get started and hopefully you will find some unique summer style inspiration below.

“When I think of nautical I always think of stripes! And nautical means sun, sun means ice cream!! Haha, I think that is such a fun sweater but too warm for a sunny day. The skirt I no longer have but was a Good Buy!”

Nancy

Hilda of Over the Hilda

“Here is my nautical pic. I love a sweater with stripes. This one is a few years old from Zara and I wear it only about 6 times a year but I am reluctant to say good bye to it as I love stripes.”

Hilda

Rena of Fine Whatever

“From the early days of my blog, April 2016, is this navy blue and white ensemble. Nautical is typically where my mind goes when I see this color combination and knowing that I’d been near a marina the day these photos were taken helped to bring it all together.”

Rena

Mireille of Chez Mireille

“The wide legged pants I want to love but I am not sure if they will stay in my closet past this summer. I will decide once I have my mom hem them. I just feel that they are a little overwhelming on my frame and it took me a while to get a picture I was satisfied with.”

Mireille

Charlotte of Jodie’s Touch of Style

“I’m sending over a photo of my mom in her ‘nautical’ attire. Heck, it could be perfect for our patriotic themes too! And even though this photo is from a couple of years ago, I know she still has everything because she doesn’t throw things out (like mother, like daughter, haha).”

“When I saw the theme for this month’s Good Buy/ Good- Bye Book, I just knew I had to wear this outfit for it! I found it last year at Nautica on clearance and even though I couldn’t try it on I took a gamble. It quickly turned into one of my favorite summer outfits and I do feel rather nautical with all the blue and white.”

Joanne

Sheila of Ephemera

“These sailor pants have been a good buy for me, even though I don’t wear them a ton – but this nautical theme inspired me to style them up in five new ways, so I hope this has given you ideas on how to style these possibly-unflattering trousers!” (See Nancy’s post for the other 3 ways.)

Sheila

Ellie of Ellibelle’s Corner

“I always think of navy and white stripes when I think of ‘Nautical’. This striped t-shirt has been in my closet for several seasons now and it’s one of my go-to’s in the summer. Love these colors and style, and I will be really sad when it’s no longer wearable! It was definitely a Good Buy!”

Ellie

“I picked up this darling sailboat print top on clearance at Target years ago. Sadly it was a bit too tight around the arms so it ended up in the donation pile.”

Laura

Suzy of The Grey Brunette

“I bought a bikini last summer that would fit the nautical theme perfectly! I ordered it online so I was unsure about the fit, but it’s actually perfect.”

Suzy

Darlene of Aquamarina Style

“When you think of a nautical look, what comes to mind? First, of course, is the sea. Sailors, boats, and crisp whites and blues. My take on this look is super casual for summer: denim shorts, an ‘anchor’ muscle tee, and striped sneakers. Classic nautical pieces are always a ‘good buy!'”

Darlene

And me!

“First is my fish print vest that I just shared last week. I mentioned that I struggled with this nautical theme, but there is nothing more nautical than the fish in the sea! This thrifted item was definitely a good buy for its $3 price tag. I love the color and the whimsical print.

Shelbee

“Another good buy thrifted find is my seersucker blazer. Seersucker has its roots in maritime style and while I didn’t necessarily style it in a nautical way, it is still very much a nautical piece.”

Shelbee

“Finally, my sailboat shirt and blue and white striped maxi dress are probably two of my favorite nautical style pieces in my closet. Ironically, I never really liked either of these pieces very much on me until I styled them together. Now they have new nautical life and have transitioned from not-so-good-buys to good buys.”

Shelbee

And now you can head on over to Nancy’s post to find some more nautical inspired outfits.

Up Next…Tie Dye!

    Shelbee,

It seems that a common thread for this theme was blue and white with a side of stripes. Although, I really liked Nancy’s inclusion of ice cream. Even so, everyone sailed through and turned out some really great looks. And you know, I’ve already got a ton of tie-dye to send in for next month. Thanks for hosting this showcase.

Rena, thanks so much for joining us this month! This was a interesting theme and I really enjoyed all of the nautical looks. I do see the common thread of blue and white and stripes. Nancy’s ice cream sweater is so adorable! I am really looking forward to the tie dye theme. I have a ton of it to share as well!

WOW everyone did such a wonderful job with their nautical outfits. Am I the only one who braved a swimsuit?? I’m still shocked at how translucent white my skin is LOL!! But seriously, Shelbee, thank you for squeezing me in, lovely!
I love your choices – especially the seersucker jacket!
    Huge hugs

Thanks so much, Suzy! I am so glad that you were able to join us! I braved the swim suit for the reminder post and for my post on Monday this week, but yes it looks like you are the only one in this post! And you look fabulous, too! You know, I will not accept any apologies for the color of your skin. Nor will I apologize for how pale I am either. I actually am going to write a post on exactly this topic very soon. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having pale skin and I will not be shamed for it…it happens every summer and now I am going to have a good rant about it! I hope you are having a wonderful week, my friend!

LOL thanks Shelbee! I always used to get teased by my friends because I was always so pale, even in the summer. I guess it kind of stuck with me, because I’m often embarrassed if someone comments on it now. It’s so freaking stupid, isn’t it? Pale skin is healthier than having a full on tan, right?! I love that you’re going to write a post about it!!
    Huge hugs

I have always been teased and ridiculed for how pale I am as well. And it is so ridiculous. And incredibly rude to just say to someone, “You need a tan.” Can you imagine if we said to a darker skinned person, “You need to be paler, why don’t you lighten your skin?” Oh, I have a great rant planned on this topic. We need to stop shaming each other for every damn thing! I love you, sweet friend! You keep rocking your healthy pale skin!

You received so many great submissions and I haven’t even checked out Nancy’s post yet!
And even though you struggled, you came up with some great outfits here! I’m especially loving the seersucker blazer! It’s so perfect for the theme! And love how the striped skirt pairs with the sailboat shirt, those two look like they were made to be worn together!

Thanks so much, Ellie! I do love seersucker. And the combination of my striped dress and sailboat shirt really saved both pieces from the donation bin! They really are great together and they aren’t even from the same store. I am so glad that you joined us this month!

I love seeing all of these looks. I don’t have much but it is so good to see how others interpret it because after seeing these, I do have things I could have used!! Goes to show that inspiration helps us all!!

This was a challenging but fun theme, Jodie. I had to do some research to see what types of things are considered nautical in fashion. But you are so right, these style prompt round up posts do give us so many new ideas! Thanks for stopping by and I am so glad that Charlotte and Nancy joined us this month. Up next…tie dye!

Nancy’s sweater is hilarious and oh so cute. I really think I need to add a few more stripes in my closet after all this inspiration.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

I love Nancy’s sweater, too! It is adorable. I am so glad that you were able to join us this month, Joanne! Stripes are a good thing to have in one’s closet. They are perfect for easy pattern mixing, too.
