The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-June 2018-All About Gingham

Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after a year has passed, we decided to change the series a bit.

You can choose whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

Let’s start with my beautiful co-host, Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. She is sharing a Good Buy for this month’s Gingham theme.

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style

“I love this skirt, it is defenitely a Good Buy! I like high low hem line skirts a lot!”

Joining us for the first time is Liz of Closet Play Image. She is sharing a Good Buy as well.

“It is a good buy because: I love gingham, the fit is dreamy, the green trim rocks. It’s purple, which I don’t normally wear, but at consignment store markdown, it was a good way to indulge a whim and a trendy color!”

My dear friend Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag is sharing her favorite colorful gingham items.

“While most of my gingham is black and white I was thrilled to add two new pieces this year in different colors. I consider both Good Buys!”

And my friend Elle of The Elle Diaries is also joining us for the first time with her darling gingham dress.

Elle of The Elle Diaries

“This dress is from Gilt and I love it as it is the right lenght and so well made.”

Anne of Spy Girl is sharing some of her favorite gingham pieces as well. Be sure to hop on over to her blog and join her Gingham Link Up Party as well!

“These are my Good Buy Gingham Keds. Three years ago, I had a Keds shopping frenzy and bought way too many. Last year, I did some culling to make room for shoes that I actually wear (hello clogs and Fluevogs). These survived the edit — they fit and they’re unusual.

Lisa of Coast to Coast is wearing some matching gingham with her daughter! Two Good Buys in one photo!

“I love the cut of this dress and how a halter style is so flattering on your shoulders. Throw in a little leopard and some fun earrings and you’ve got a great look for so many occasions. Definitely a “Good Buy” and I don’t have plans of saying “Good Bye” to gingham anytime soon.”

Nicole of High Latitude Style is also joining us for the first time with a cute gingham top styled perfectly for an Alaskan summer!

“Here is my gingham shirt. I am a bit irritated about the good bye in your series. In the case of this shirt, I said good bye to the breast pocket. I just don’t like the look of just one breast pocket and hence took it off.”

Kathrine of Kathrine Eldridge Wardrobe Stylist is sharing a brand new gingham top with us and it is super cute!

“You hit me at the perfect time because I just received this cute top!”

And finally my Good Buy Gingham!

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

“This gingham dress from Target was a must have that I picked up last year. I love the Americana feel of blue and white gingham in a fun girly dress. I wore this dress quite a bit last summer and I am sure it will get lots of wear this year, too. Definitely a Good Buy!”

I did share a Good-Bye item as well. That is over on Nancy’s post. So be sure to check it out as well as all the other features that Nancy shared (they are different from mine)!

Thank you all so very much for participating with us! You are all so lovely, stylish and elegant. Loved to see your Gingham purchases!

The theme for July is Summer Hats!

Send your photo with a few sentences if it is a Good Buy or a Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlight! Please submit your photos with a brief description before the 10th of each month to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com

Thank you Shelbee for doing this, what a fun theme for this month! Not a single good bye because gingham is so awesome, lol! Now I know how I found you last year – I have the same gingham dress from Target and I saw your thumbnail in a link up, clicked, and fell in love! That Target dress is so good, right? I am thinking I may need to wear it today, I just love the cut and of course the print!
    Happy weekend sweet friend!

Ah, Kellyann, I adore you so much! You really rock the gingham looks, too! Thanks so much for playing along with us. I can’t wait to see what everyone shares for the Summer Hat theme. And I did share a Good-Bye over on Nancy’s post! I think I was the only one. But my cute gingham shorts just never fit me quite right. I am so happy that you found me back then and how fun that it was gingham that connected us! Have a fantastic week, my beautiful friend.

Lise, thank you so much! Orange is not a color that usually flatters me, but this shade seems to work. I was disappointed to discover it has a stain on the front though. But that is why I wear pins on it…to cover the stain!

Love your dress, Shelbee, and the orange shrug goes marvellously well. Is that an airplane brooch covering your stain? I don’t understand why, but I love airplane jewelry. Also love your sandals. Altogether a great outfit.
I think I need that gingham umbrella, and the gingham keds too.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Lisa! Actually my pins are two bumble bees…”twin pins” that my sister gave to me a few years back. I love the vintage feel of them! Although an airplane pin sounds pretty fabulous, too! Now I will be on the lookout for one. And I was completely swooning over Liz’s gingham umbrella, too! Have a great weekend, my friend.

Sooo many fabulous gingham pieces! I think this trend is just picking up steam verses slowing down. Your gingham dress is so very pretty and I like that it has multiple colors. Great theme this month and I am really wishing I had sent my gingham look in. Maybe next month I can get it together…

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Jennie, thanks so much! I agree with you that gingham is not going out of style any time soon. It is such a classic print and so whimsical and nostalgic that I think it will stay around forever. You have shown some pretty amazing gingham pieces lately, too! I do hope you can join us for next month’s theme of summer hats!

What a fun post, Shelbee! All of these ladies are totally rocking their gingham and I for one hope it stays around for at least another season or so. Thanks for the feature with my darling daughter. Have the best weekend friend!!! XO

Lisa, thanks so much and I am so happy that you could join us for the fun! Gingham is so timeless, I think it will stay around for quite a long time! It is always in fashion, in my opinion. I hope you can join us next month for the summer hats theme!

Adore your gingham dress, and the orange cardie… Delish! Thank you for including me in the good-buy, good-bye fun, Shelbee! Loving all these gingham looks. Those checks feel fresh and crisp in our hot and sticky Georgia climate.

I think gingham is one of those classic fabrics that just never completely disappears. It has an innocent , fresh, youthful vibe with staying power. You look so cute in your dress Shelbee. If you were wearing your pigtails I’d swear you were a dead ringer for Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz!!
