Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!

Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. Over a year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after running that series for a year, we decided to change it a bit.

For this series, you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

Let’s begin with my co-host, Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style, showing us her Good Buy Coat.

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style

“What a fun coat this is. Never thought I would like a purple coat!”

Next are Jodie, Nancy, and Charlotte of Jodie’s Touch of Style sharing their Good Buy Coats.

“All three of us LOVE our leopard coats. Let’s just say we certainly turn some heads when we wear them at the same time.”

Now we have Kim of Fierce Fashion with her Good Buy Leopard Coat.

“This coat was a Good Buy! I found it at Burlington Coat Factory for $35 at the beginning of December. There appeared to be only one in each size. I snapped it up as it was on my wish list!”

Next is Penny of Frugal Fashion Shopper.

“On a hot sunny summer’s day I went into a charity shop that I hadn’t visited before in a town I was passing through and there on a dummy in the centre of the store was this wonderful colourful coat. It was a sunny day and as the rays of the sun settled on the coat it positively glowed. Oh, and it was only £5! Also it was made from wool so I knew it would be lovely and warm and cozy during the cold days of winter. Now I wear it all the time and I love it because our winter days are often grey and colourless and it is quite unusual for winter coats to be in such a summery colour. People, I have been stopped in the street because of this coat! Everyone loves the colour!”

Next is Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish.

“I have about 4 winter coats of different colors, more than I need for living in NC. I had been admiring the Teddy Bear coat and although it was a Christmas gift, it was a Good Buy, as I love it! A little birdy told me it was from ASOS. I love the rust color and wide lapels, not to mention it is cozy!!”

And now Liz of Closet Play Image.

“The first is my red trench… I’ve had it for 6+ years, and it always brings a smile to a rainy day! Who can’t use that? It’s also very lightweight, which prevents it from getting too bulky when layering underneath. The light weight also makes it more seasonally versatile for our generally warm climate. It looks great with everything from jeans to a dress. There’s a reason a trench is a classic, but a trench doesn’t need to be tan to be awesome or versatile!”

And here is Regan of Nifty 50 and Fabulous.

“When the winter blahs get a hold over me, putting on my pink is a great way to lift my spirits. I always get compliments when I wear my pink.”

“Love this Good Buy teddy bear coat. I got it on clearance years ago and it’s definitely still in style.”

And finally my coat!

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

“This long black hooded wool coat was a gift given to me by my ex-husband’s mother when he and I were just dating. Based on my timeline, I have had this coat since before 1998…so it is over 20 years old. It is a size 14 and has fit me through many weight changes over the past 2 decades going from a size 12 to a size 8 to a size 20 and now back down to a size 12 or 14. It is a classic style in a wool blend with a faux fur trim on the hood. It is super comfortable and warm and has been worn every winter since I received it. When all other coats fail to match my outfit, this one is my go-to. A very good buy (or gift), indeed.”

And now hop on over to Nancy’s post to see some more fun coats and outerwear.

The theme for February will be Graphic Tops. So send us some of your favorite (or least favorite) graphic tops. It could be a tee shirt, a sweatshirt, or even a sweater with a phrase, a logo, or just an image. Any kind of top, any kind of graphic, whether you love or hate it, we’d love to see it!

Send your photos with a few sentences describing your Good Buy or Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlight! Please submit your photos with a brief description by the 10th of February to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com.

*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for this series.

Regan of Nifty 50 and Fabulous shared her very inspiring post, New Direction in a New Year, where she discusses this idea of a word of the year to guide her to a plan rather than resolutions that fall by the wayside before we hit February. Definitely worth a read if you looking for some ideas and direction for your life goals in the new year. Thanks for sharing, Regan! I found a lot of value for my own personal use in this wonderful post!
