Spring Florals in the Snow with Dresslily & Link Up On the Edge #140

This dress was provided to me for purposes of this blog post. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

The calendar says Spring, the weather does not. Although these pictures are from ten days ago, it was still snowing here just this week so these photos are not a wholly inaccurate representation of April in the North Country. As much as I want to retire the heavy layers and winter coats at this point in the season, I simply cannot. So how do you transition your wardrobe to Spring and not suffer from hypothermia? Layers. The answer is layers. Lots and lots of layers. And colors. Bright colors. With prints. Big, bold prints depicting all the pretty things that come with Spring.

When Dresslily reached out to me to review a piece from their new Spring collection, I was automatically drawn to the floral skater dresses. You cannot have too many floral dresses for Spring and Summer, in my opinion. They present so many different styling options as we transition through the season. While it is still cold, these dresses are easy to layer under cardigans or jackets or over long sleeve tee shirts or turtlenecks. Add some fun tights and boots and you are ready for Spring even in the cooler temperatures.

Once the temperatures rise, you can easily shed the layers and accessorize with a belt, sandals, and dainty or bold jewelry, whichever you prefer. This particular dress is cotton with a little bit of stretch which makes it super comfortable and breathable for the warmer weather. I have worked with Dresslily for a few years now, so I thought I knew my size well when ordering. But I forgot to account for my recent weight loss and ordered the same size that I always have. I should have sized down as the waist band was a bit too large on me now. But it was easily solved with a belt to cinch it in. But belting the waist caused the armpit and cleavage areas to bulge out some, making it obvious that my dress is too big. Like a little girl playing dress up in her grandma’s closet. Again, that was easily resolved by layering a strappy bralette underneath and a cardigan on top.

The photo of this dress online gives the appearance of a super full skirt, but as you can clearly see, it is not that full of a skirt. But you could layer a tulle petticoat underneath if you wanted that vintage vibe of super full skirting. I don’t have a petticoat like that or I may have added one to this outfit. I guess I need to add a petticoat to my list of things that every girl should have on hand. I do have a multitude of dresses in this skater style that would benefit from a such an undergarment.

Because the print is so bright and bold and I combined it with polka dots as well, I decided to be somewhat minimalist with my jewelry. I added a delicate choker necklace and dangly earrings and nothing more. Now you may be wondering where would I wear such an outfit. I would wear it to work. Or to a baby shower. Or on Easter Sunday. A graduation party. A Spring garden wedding. A tea party. Or on any day really when I need a little boost of confidence and want to feel feminine and cheerful. Nothing makes you feel more feminine than a twirly dress in a pretty print.
