Salty But Sweet & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #122

This is not a sponsored post.

I know, I know. I am still wearing sweaters, boots, and gloves. It is still really cold here. We have had a few intermittent days of Spring weather, but the reality is that you are not going to see my bare legs for at least another week or two. Temperatures are mostly hovering in the 40’s and 50’s with the occasional drop into the 30’s at night. This is Spring in the North Country. Or as we North Country folk more aptly call it, Mud Season. As the ground starts to thaw and the rain persists, there is literally mud everywhere! I think I have officially ruined my pink velvet booties!

I was going to file these photos away until the Fall since the outfit is more seasonally appropriate for October or November. But my reality is that this outfit is completely seasonally appropriate for me right now. Plus I really love this Salty But Sweet sweater. The pink, gray, black, and white are totally in my color spectrum and at least the pale shade of pink hints that Spring will be here soon. And the message…it was just too cute to pass up.

If you know me know in real life, you will probably concur that I am both salty and sweet like ice cream in a pretzel cone. However, I am not a big fan of cones as I much prefer to eat my ice cream with spoon. So give me a double scoop of vanilla in a cup with some pretzel crisps thrown in! Oh so good. If ice cream season would ever arrive! I guess it’s always ice cream season, but when you are still shivering outside, sometimes a hot cocoa is much better. With whipped cream and cinnamon, of course.

I am rambling on about nonsense because I haven’t much to share right now. Actually, I do have a lot to share, but I am lacking the energy to put it all into words right now. I spent Mother’s Day tackling the mess that is my closet room. I think I put it off for as long as I did because I did not want to face the reality that I may be a hoarder…of clothes and shoes. I have no problem disposing of other things. But for some reason, I have the damnedest time getting rid of clothes.

I am not sure what the reason is. I would kind of like to get to the root of the issue. Maybe it’s because we didn’t have a lot when I was a kid. I have always loved clothes. They were the one thing that I always wanted more of growing up, but I could never fill that void. I guess now that I can, I can’t stop myself. When I started the cleansing process on Sunday, I knew it would take at least a few days to get through it all. And I have to admit, it is completely overwhelming. I would share photos with you of the disaster except I am actually a little too embarrassed.

But to give you an idea…I have already filled 6 leaf bags with clothes to consign. You know the bags I am talking about…the giant trash bags used for cleaning leaves from your yard. I think they are 65 gallon bags or something like that. And I am only about a quarter of the way through all the stuff. I would love to put most of it on Poshmark, but I simply don’t have the time for all that. So to the consignment shop they will go, if I can find room in there for all of it!

And that’s about all I have for today. Be sure to check back tomorrow for The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book with Nancy featuring polka dots. And on Thursday, I am back with Monica for Your Own Twist showcasing our Memorial Day looks. I took the photos at this same location and my outfit is much more Spring-like but I was freezing half to death during the shoot. What have you been up to lately?

Helene, thank you so much for stopping by! I do love sweaters as evidenced by the fact that I had about 200 of them! I managed to purge the ones that I no longer wear, but it is difficult to get rid of a cozy sweater even if you don’t wear it often.

I might cry if you really ruined those pink velvet boots- gosh I love them! That salty but sweet sweater is precious and I’d wear it right now too if my weather was like yours. I love the way you styled it and with that pink jacket those fabulous boots really pop! It is hard to get rid of clothes but since you’ve lost weight I bet a lot no longer fit you – pitch them first!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! There was so much mud caked in the sparkly heels of these boots, I don’t know if they will ever come clean! But I will do my best. Or I might just wear them muddy. I cleared out about 15 trash bags full of stuff already and there is more that I could get rid of, but I need a break! It was super stressful. I tried a lot of it on, too, to see what fit and what didn’t fit. That itself is exhausting!

Brave woman to tackle your closet, lol! But I am sure once you are done, you will be so glad you did: you will see what you have and you will have space for whatever you buy. I can’t imagine 6 bags to donate but then when I helped my friend do her closet, it was a similar experience. I love your pink and gray outfit and the sweater is perfect!

I have a hard time getting rid of clothes too. I usually have a friend come over once a year to help me purge. You bring up a good point about it though. When I was growing up I got two pairs of pants and like 5 tops for the school year and that was it. Maybe that is why it’s so tough to give up clothes! Your sweatshirt is so cute and I love this fun look on you!

Jill, thank you so much! It is ridiculously hard to purge my clothing. I am actually a little disturbed by it all! And I have decided to go back to counseling to discuss this issue plus many, many more!

You and I could be sisters. We are planning on moving sometime this fall (or sooner) and my idea has been to purge my closet. Yet, I can’t seem to do much. I get half a smaller bag and think I’ve done enough. But I LOVE them all. Maybe that’s the problem…too much love, ha ha!!
So I can relate Shelbee, and am VERY impressed that you got rid of 6 bags. Maybe you should come help me?
Thanks for showcasing my mom. She’s such an inspiration and I am blessed to still have her in our life.

Jodie, thanks so much for stopping by! It feels good to know that I am not alone in this clothes collecting habit! I ended up clearing out about 15 trash bags full! And my closet is still packed, I need to clean more, but I need a break. It was definitely difficult, but there was so much in bins that I haven’t seen in probably 2-3 years, so it was time. Now I would love to get it all posted on Poshmark and try to make some money from it! It was my pleasure to feature your mom. She really is such an inspiration! I adore her. Now if only I could make my way to Colorado to meet you all in person and help you clean your closet! Have a great day, my friend.

Aw, thanks for the feature! And thanks for not using the wizard look! Hahahaha.
I’m still on the fence with that muumuu. I think it’s the fact that it’s 100% cotton — rare for a muumuu! Well that, and the weird color combination — that peachy color is NEON peach!

Have a great day! Maybe we can give ourselves a Poshmark Challenge: post one item this week. Baby steps, right?

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Anne! I purposely chose the one that you had something positive to share about it…and it was the 100% cotton part that made me pick that muumuu to share. Ha. Yes, I am going to get some items posted this weekend on Poshmark! I am deciding if I should start with shoes, pants, or tops. Definitely baby steps!

Looking very nice. I need to get rid of some clothes and shoes but I always have a hard time parting with things also. To tell you, here in the Bay Area it is overcast and gloomy also.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you, Patrick! I wonder why we get so attached to clothing?! But I am glad to know that I am not alone in the weird attachment! I hope the weather clears up for all of us and we get some sunshiny days soon.

OH NO! Maybe we should observe a moment of silence for your pink booties. Sorry about all the mud. You could totally be a “Pink Lady” in that jacket. So cute Shelbee!!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Lisa! I think the boots might be okay. There was just a lot of mud in the sparkly heels. I should be able to get them cleaned! And yes to Pink Ladies! You may have just given me an idea for a theme…stay tuned!

Thanks so much, Jess! As much as I complain about the cold weather lately, I am now getting nervous about visiting NC in July. Especially if it is already in the 70’s and 80’s…how hot is it in July?! I can’t stand super hot! I hope you have a fantastic day, my friend.

That Salty But Sweet sweeter is just the cutest and I think the pink accents make it the perfect outfit for Spring. 🙂 I just love the color your boots add, plus that they’re velvet! I hope the weather gets nicer there… we have had an awful lot of rain! 😛

Carrie, thanks so much! I simply couldn’t resist this sweater especially since it was on clearance! We have had so much rain, too. It feels like I haven’t seen the sun in weeks. And there is just tons more rain in the forecast. I hope the weather gets nicer soon for all of us!

Shelbee, your outfit is so cute! I love the pink and black and the sweatshirt is great! And pink booties–love them! My closet, too, is totally out of control. And I know exactly what you mean about filling up trash bags! About every six months (when I have the energy–ugh), I try to be “ruthless” and thin the herd! I agree–it’s hard. So many styles come and go and come back again so it can be hard to be selective, right?

    Keep up the good work!
    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thanks so much! It really is comforting to know that I am not alone in this clothes hoarding mess. I had bins of tunics and tee shirts that I hadn’t worn in a few years. I tried a few on and realized that they are just not my current style. So I became ruthless, for sure. Which was a good thing. But I can still thin out the herd even more! And I have already filled about 15 trash bags. Eek.

This outfit is one of my favorites from you! I absolutely love the sweater with those fun booties! I really hope you didn’t truly ruin them!

  • Robin LaMonte

    Shelbee,

Love the hot pink jacket and booties to brighten up your cold spring.
I know it’s hard to throw out clothes but you’re giving them to someone who will appreciate them as much as you did.

    Hugs,

What a cute graphic sweater Shelbee! Salty and sweet snacks are my favorite too. Though I lean towards more salty! We have a big storm coming this week so I can relate. Our temperatures have dropped drastically and I just want to be wrapped up in a sweater! I should clean out our closets but have not been motivated to. I love clothes too though I think I am accruing a bit more now that I started blogging. I am not sure exactly how I feel about it so still processing that feeling. I hope your day is going well so far and happy Tuesday!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Maureen! I used to love salty much more than sweet, but now I have reached a happy balance between the two. Although neither is really all that healthy! The closet clean out was super stressful, but I am so glad that I did it! Now to get some things listed on Poshmark and try to make a little bit of money…that would be nice. Have a fantastic day, my friend! And stay warm!

you are rocking that sweater and looking damn fine. Looks like you are really trying to embrace Non-Spring lol. Sorry I have been a stranger, vacation and the never ending blog woes

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Linda! Non-Spring is right…more aptly called Mud Season around here! I have noticed all your blog troubles…I hope everything is fixed and back to running smoothly for you. What a disaster those issues can be! Do let me know if you ever make it to Watertown! You will have to come visit the consignment shop. We have so many great items.

Girl, I love this shirt! Feel this way so often. Try to maintain a sweet exterior but have some definite salt lying underneath (haha). You, my friend, only look sweet in this look. Really cute with an almost 1950’s-esque vibe to it!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Betsy! I didn’t notice the 50’s-esque vibe but now you are the second person to point it out…I am totally feeling it! And it has definitely given me some inspiration for upcoming theme ideas!

  • Emma Peach

I love your sweater Shelbee! I have to admit that I’m a clothes hoarder too and have often wondered if it’s because for so long I couldn’t afford nice clothes, so when I could I more than made up for it! I’m trying really hard now to be very selective about what I buy, we just don’t have any room for more stuff!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Emma! I have always loved clothes even when we couldn’t afford them. And ever since I was old enough to buy my own clothes, it seems that is where all my money goes! I am trying to be better as well, but I am certain I will never be a minimalist or embrace capsule wardrobes.
