Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Denim Jackets & Link Up On the Edge #189

Spring is the perfect time for us to share Denim Jackets for the next edition of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book and we would love for you all to join us! In April, Nancy and I are featuring denim outerwear which includes denim jackets, denim vests, denim shirt dresses or denim shirts worn as jackets, or any other denim wardrobe piece that could double as a jacket or outerwear. Whether you love or hate your denim pieces, we want to see them!

What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?

It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. We will give you the theme for the next month in each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month. So please join us for April by sending us some photos of your favorite (or least favorite) Denim Jackets with a brief description as to why you love or hate them!

You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing or accessory that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

So to get you all inspired to send us your styling of denim jackets, I am going to share some of the outfits I have worn on the blog featuring denim jackets, vests, shirts or shirt dresses. I always enjoy putting together these posts because I go all the way back to the very beginning of my blogging journey. Seeing how much my photos and style have improved over the years gives me a great good chuckle.

Man Shelbee! I was doing so good not to cry this morning and then I saw your post. Kidding, a little. You did bring tears to my eyes but it was because I’m feeling the love. As for your jean jacket styling skills…fabulous. And how fun to go back a few years into your style. Isn’t is funny how we all keep evolving and yet keep our personal flair. Sending you hugs my friend.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Aw, Chrissy, my friend, I didn’t mean to make you cry! I come right to the verge of tears nearly every day lately for one reason or another! But I really believe if we stay connected and keep sharing kindness and love as we have always done, we will come to the other side of this mess better and stronger than ever! As for personal style evolution…it is so fascinating to see how we change and grow over the years. It happens so gradually sometimes that I think we don’t notice until we dive back into outfit photos from years ago. Sending you lots of hugs right back!

You have a fabulous denim jacket collection! Your military-inspired jacket is so cute! Love all of this inspiration! I’ll look for a photo to send to you so I can join!

Oh how lovely finding me most clicked – thank you, thank you. I love the denim jacket and have sent through for your series – a fun fab one at that! Jacqui xx

  • Lucy Bertoldi

I love the way you styled all these looks! Nothing better than a good jean jacket. My post is on my hate-love relationship with jeans! Pairs well with your post lol! Thanks:)

  • Anne M Bray

OMG! The denim tour through your archives is great! I did a little of the same with SpyGirl and found a treasure or two or three. Of course, my favorite look is with Ralphie, which somehow I missed when originally posted. (Now that I’m home, unmonitored by the “fake boss” coworker, I can do all the blog reading I want! Bwahahahaha! Hey, it’s research — EVERYONE IS IN LOUNGEWEAR! Hahahahaha).
I will contribute somethings to the denim jacket parade. It’ll give me an excuse to wear some “real” clothes.

Yesterday, we got the mandate to now wear face masks when outside the home. (Severo FINALLY got issued some at work earlier in the week, which makes me feel a bit better about his germ-laden public job.) I finally got in the car and performed an errand (with bandanna facial covering — I looked like a bank robber) which admittedly was kind of nerve wracking once I was in the store because PEOPLE WERE IGNORING THE SIX FOOT RULE. Argh.
Take care and stay safe! xxox

BTW, I made all my Patreon posts public, so come on back. I need some cheerleading.
I’ll post my latest in the party.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Anne! I love going back through my blog archives. I cringe and I giggle and I sometimes find some real gems! I am so glad that you have more freedom working from home and I can’t wait to see your denim jacket submissions. Yay! I have been getting dressed like once a week and venturing to some remote location to take photos. Other than that, I am jammies all day long! I am glad that Severo finally got some protective gear for work and I hope you both stay healthy through this mess. So when they mandate wearing masks in public, how exactly do they plan on enforcing that? I know some places are actually considering fining people for not obeying these mandates and that kind of government/police control makes me more nervous than the virus. But it is the new way of life and we really have no choice but to succumb to the dictates right now. I will check out your Patreon soon, but I deleted my entire account so I may have to set up a new one.

I don’t think you need an account to view Public Patreon posts. Give my linked post a try!

Yeah, the “police state” issue with mandates is troubling. There wasn’t anything on the front page of the LA Times, so maybe it’s just a “strong suggestion”? Some good friends had just started a European trip right before the U.S. stay-at-home mandates started. They were in Paris, where enforcement was strong. It got to the point where anyone out on the street had to have a written note explaining why they were out to show to the gendarmes. Yikes! They had to cut their travel short, they were concerned that they wouldn’t be able to rent a car, or be out on the road (their next stop was Brittany). So they flew home, with great difficulty, and are now in 14 day home quarantine because they were in Paris.

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Wow, that story about your friends in Paris is insane and really quite frightening. I am so glad that I was safely planted home when this all came to a head!

As for Patreon, I just clicked the link and I can view the post, but I cannot comment without having an account to login. So I will comment here…can I tell you how much I love how closely your desk/work space area resembles mine?! Gosh, it makes me feel normalish. Thank you for making me feel normalish.

          • Anne M Bray

So glad to be of service. My desk /office/home is a clutter nightmare right now. I still haven’t found that stinkin’ webcam. The CD that came with, yes. The object itself, no. I figured out a workaround though, and hope to tape some demos today. My poor students have gotten the “short end of the stick”, I’m sorry to say. Online teaching is a lot of extra work!

          • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Yeah, I am definitely not a modern woman in the sense of seamlessly shifting all of life to online. I prefer the old school way when it comes to lots of things. But we are adaptable and we will adjust and get the work done…you will do it with or without that darn missing webcam!

  • Maureen

So fun to look through all of your photos Shelbee and even see you with short hair! Gosh, I sometimes miss my hair being that short. It would be perfect for the stay at home life right now! And yes, to jean/denim jackets. They are so versatile and probably my most used outerwear in my closet. I adore the military denim jacket that you have. It’s a different look and I love its uniqueness! Well, we made it through another week and while we cannot go anywhere to enjoy the weekend, I am happy it is Friday! That means no homeschooling for two days! 🙂 I hope your Friday is off to a great start and wishing you and your family a beautiful weekend ahead.

Thanks so much, Maureen! The old photos and my short hair gave me a good chuckle! I actually don’t miss my short hair at all. I am loving long hair these days! Send us some photos of your jean jackets so we can feature you this month! You don’t need to take any new pictures, just something you already have. And yes, I am glad the weekend is here so I can take a break from nagging my kids to do their work. In fact, I just told them that we will end a few hours earlier today because it is Friday. I think Half-Day Fridays might be in order during homeschool time! Enjoy your weekend!

So fun to see all your denim jackets and outfits! Love the military style and seeing your dark denim jacket too. I love the brown long floral dress with the dark denim jacket. I have several myself and wear them often in the Spring. Got both of them thrifting! It was fun to see your different haircuts/styles in the pictures too. Boy, mine is going to be long and will go grey unless i color myself during this! Ill cross that bridge…
Have a good weekend my friend!

Thanks so much, Jess! The military denim jackets are my absolute favorites. Definitely send us a few photos of your denim jacket stylings to include in this month’s post. I would love to see a huge increase in participation with everyone locked down at home! And speaking of hair, I haven’t had my hair cut since June so I am really overdue! But at that rate I guess a few more months won’t make much difference. But the kids and I have planned a hair dye party this Sunday. I am touching up my own roots (which I usually do anyway but it is getting more and more difficult with how long it is) and the kids want blue hair. So we are going for it! Stay tuned for photos of that mess. Haha.

Thanks so much, Heather! Denim jackets are so very timeless and classic. I am certain that I have owned one since I was about 8 years old! We would love for you to join us this month if you have some denim jacket photos to submit!

Thanks for stopping by, Dee! I wear jeans 90% of the time myself. I have an enormous collection of denim! Send us a photo or two of your fave denim jackets and Nancy and I will feature them this month! I would love to see a huge participation this month with so many people locked down at home. It will be a giant denim party!

You are the cutest and inspire me to maybe move past the yoga pants I have been wearing for too long this last month. I ought to try and apply make-up maybe once a day too? Stay healthy and well my friend 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Jen, thank you so much! You are too sweet! If you get inspired in the next few days to put on a cute casual outfit with a denim jacket, take a photo and send it to me so we can feature you this month! I would love to see a huge increase in participation with so many people locked down at home. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Thanks, Lauren! Yeah, I think the shorter darker one has nautical style buttons. But then I have the lighter one that reminds me of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. That one is at least 15 years old and my absolute favorite!

I feel like now really is the time for us to treat ourselves to some gorgeous clothes to lounge around in – and this post really encapsulates the self-isolation-yet-still-chic vibe I’m really going for!

Thanks so much, Amy! I agree that this is a great time to have some fun with casual fashion and wear things that are comfy and cute. How we look definitely affects how we feel and we might as feel great right now! We would be delighted to have you join us this month. You just need to email a photo or two of your favorite denim jackets and we will feature them. Stay safe and healthy!

Yup, you sure can’t beat a denim jacket. I’m amazed at how many super cute looks you’ve styled with one! Especially that “professional look” you styled with the green dress and boots. A different look for you, my friend! And they all work!! Happy weekend.

    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Darlene! I love the little bit of edge that a denim jacket adds to a dressier look. They take the place of moto jackets when the weather gets warmer! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend!

Wow, girl you have a lot of denim. So many great ways to style it and a denim jacket in my books is a Good Buy! Although I have let my chambray shirts and denim vests go. I purge my closet often as I get overwhelmed by choices, but then I wish I hadn’t gotten rid of some of them. 😂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Bo! I do not purge as often as I should…or never at all really! And I have just too much stuff and it does get overwhelming. But then I have those moments when I do regret getting rid of certain things. The struggle is real!

Shauna, thanks so much! Actually, my Friday link up has been around longer than my Tuesday one! I am glad that you have found it! I am super grateful for the blogging community right now as well. Other than my immediate family, my blogger friends are really the only people I have to communicate with outside of my house! Your outfits and your blog and your contagiously positive and bright attitude always bring a smile to my face, too! Keep sending us that beautiful sunshine of yours!

Always looking so very fabulous. Sorry I am so late. I have been a total slug this weekend. Need to get out it.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you and your family are safe and healthy.

We can’t be without good denim jackets. There are perfect with everything. You have so many good looks in this post. My favorite one is the brown polka dot dress with denim jacket. I have the Pretty Woman vibes from it. Have a beautiful day.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Anna! Denim jackets are so great and timeless! I need to wear that polka dot dress again. I only wore it that one time! Hopefully, you can join us this month with your favorite denim jacket!

Thanks Hilda! I may have gone overboard with my growing collection of denim jackets. Most are thrifted and I just can’t resist a cute thrifted denim jacket. We would love you to join us this month if you can!
