Recently, I have increased my focus on finding and supporting sustainable and ethical brands not only for the sake of our earth and environment but also for my own personal health. When we talk about sustainability and ethics in the production of fabrics and apparel, the emphasis is on the business practices and sourcing of products involved in the manufacture and sale of clothing goods. However, we seem to forget that everything we put in, on, and around our bodies effects our physical and overall health as well. Natural fabrics and fibers are not only better for the environment but they are better for our bodies, too.

I am always on the search for the perfect underwear. Maybe I am too particular about my panties, but I demand comfort, support, breathability, ease of laundering, and some level of cuteness. As a woman who has been prone to frequent yeast infections for most of my adult life, I also am very strict about the types of fabrics that get placed snuggly up against my vagina. While silk, satin, and lace panties make me feel wonderfully sexy, they are not my daily choice of underwear because they simply are not healthy for my body for long term wear. They do not absorb and pull moisture away from my body to prevent infections in the same way that natural fibers like cotton and hemp do. Even the dainty pretty panties with the crotches lined in cotton are not great for keeping my lady parts dry because those other fabrics are still pressed tightly against my body.

When WAMA Underwear reached out to see if I was interested in reviewing their hemp underwear, I was more than happy to give them a try. With a mission to produce the best hemp underwear in the world, WAMA has partnered with small family run organic hemp farms in China, the world’s leader in hemp textiles. They only partner with factories that provide their employees with fair wages and quality working environments. The WAMA Supplier Code of Conduct states,

“Here at WAMA, we are committed to the best practices that support our people, the environment, and our growing community. We therefore take responsibility for creating a positive impact on our world through safe and fair labor practices, eco-friendly initiatives, and respect for community values.”

Why Hemp?

“Hemp fabric is naturally anti-bacterial, with anti-odor properties. Super comfortable, breathable and gets softer with every wash. Hemp is also organic, eco-friendly and can help save the planet.”

For more information on the benefits of hemp underwear, visit the WAMA Blog. They have all sorts of interesting articles on topics like how to treat vagina sweat to getting deodorant stains out of your bras to camping and yoga essentials as well as healthy reasons to drink hemp tea. A company committed to ethical and sustainability practices while on a mission to create the best and healthiest products for the consumer is a company that I will gladly represent. And I figured my husband would back me up on that…especially if I secretly committed him to this collaboration by adding a pair of men’s boxers to the mix!

After wearing my new hemp underwear, I am happy to say that they are super soft and comfortable, very lightweight and breathable. And they get even softer after multiple washes. The fabric is a blend of hemp and organic cotton with a tiny bit of spandex for a perfectly snug fit. There is nothing worse than your underwear slipping down underneath your clothes!

For Jeff, I ordered the men’s Trunks Underwear in WAMA green. I ordered his usual size large and he said that they started out feeling a little snug but loosened throughout the day. He did report that his new hemp boxers are just as comfortable as any other boxers he has ever worn. That’s the most detailed review you will get from him, I think! He does like the WAMA green a lot though and so do I!

For me, I ordered the Hemp Bikini and the Boy Shorts Underwear both in WAMA green. When I checked the size chart for the underwear, my waist measurement put me in a size 2XL and my hip measurement is a size Medium. So I settled in between at a Large and they fit perfectly. I also ordered the Racerback Bralette in black because the green was not available at the time I ordered. I went for the size Large in the bralette as well but I probably would be better off in the X-Large.

WAMA offers a variety of different styles of both men’s and women’s hemp underwear ranging in sizes XS to 4XL with 7 different earthy colors to choose from. If you are looking for the best organic underwear to protect your privates, why not try WAMA? Use code Shelbee10 at checkout for an additional 10% off you order. You guys look so cool in these photos, Shelbee! I doubt I would get Michael on the blog in his undies lol! You certainly looked like you had a lot of fun!
I hadn’t heard of hemp underwear before reading this, but I shall definitely go and check out this fabulous brand!

Thanks so much, Suzy! Jeff is such a team player with this little blog of mine! I couldn’t be more grateful for his sense of humor and willingness to play along. We did have so much fun shooting these photos! And yes, the hemp undies are pretty fabulous and so good for protecting the privates!

Thanks so much, Kathrine! This was a super fun photoshoot, playing and giggling in our underwear! Haha. I laughed a little that your epic fail outfit was the most clicked post, too! But hey, if you don’t feel great in that outfit than it matters not what the rest of us think! They are both fabulous pieces that I am sure you will style in other ways that make you feel fabulous while wearing them! Have a wonderful week, my friend!

Pamela, thanks so much! I love my bamboo lounge set and comforter so much! It is so soft. The hemp is more of a cotton feel than the silkiness of the bamboo fabrics. These underwear are a cotton blend so that makes sense I guess. And I am with you on practical panties. I do not need all the frills and lace and other adornments. Comfort and healthy for my lady parts will be just perfect, thank you!

Thank you for sharing, Shelbee, loved this and it did bring a smile, especially the last shot! What a great sport Jeff is to get involved, great fun. I agree with all you wrote about natural products, especially, in our sensitive area’s! I haven’t heard of this brand but will definitely look out for them, sounds fab. Enjoy the rest of your week. xx

You guys are so brave for being pictured in your underwear. I know it’s no different than a swimsuit, but it always seems different…I don’t know why. ha ha. The underwear sounds great. Thanks for the fun post.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Amy! I always tell myself the same thing…my underwear probably cover more than my swimsuit does but there is something that feels different and ever so scandalous about underwear photos! This was super fun to do though. It definitely took some courage but having my husband half naked beside me certainly helped!

Matching underwear! Good review. I almost always wear silk or lace but I have no side effects from it. I’ll bet you had a lot of fun shooting for this post!😉

  • Niki

Thank you for your body confidence in these photos! I know that’s not really what it’s all about, but it definitely helped me! I’ve been 100lbs soaking wet my whole life, mind you with large upper you know whats, so I don’t know how I managed to stay so thin. With my illness, having my entire large intestine removed and the resulting swelling. Now that my body can absorb nutrients, I’ve gained 40lbs. I’ve been absolutely disgusted with myself, hiding from my husband, not looking in a mirror, etc. I went from a double 0 to a 6, and buying new clothes made me so angry with myself. My husband has tried to debunk my self-hating thoughts, but I’ve just felt he has to say those things. Seeing you glowing and having so much fun & being thin & beautiful without seeing every rib you have and not seeing your hip bones poke out an inch above your stomach, has made me happy. It may not change me completely overnight, but I may eat a meal every now and then now, lol. You have shown me you don’t have to be rail-thin to be beautiful!! Y’all look great! Thanks for sharing!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Niki, I cannot thank you enough for sharing this comment! There is definitely an underlying mission to advocate for body confidence. I have struggled with body confidence my entire life and I am only just recently getting comfortable with myself and actually appreciating and loving my body for all the amazing things that it has done and will continue to do for me. Many years ago, when I was first divorced at the age of 26, I had gone from a healthy 150 pounds (I am just under 5’7″) to an unhealthy 118 pounds. I was skin and bones then but thought I was fat. Then I began taking a very large daily cocktail of psych meds for Bipolar and Depression and within 6 months, I had gone from 118 pounds to 228 pounds. Talk about a shock to my system! After a decade battling the weight from the medications, I decided to stop taking them and within 6 months dropped down to 172 pounds which is where I am now (after some minor fluctuations over the years). So in my head, as long as I stay way under that 228 mark, I feel freaking fabulous about myself. And in hindsight, I know that 118 is not healthy for me. I actually feel my most confident between 150-180 pounds. Once I was able to shift my perspective to a place of gratitude though, I don’t struggle much with loving my body. It truly is a miraculous beautiful thing whatever state it is currently in. Thank you again for sharing your vulnerability with me. We all need each other to uplift us every now and then!

      xoxo

This post gave me a chuckle. Yes, the right underwear is so important! I’m glad you’re giving shout-outs to deserving companies. I did see your comment on my blog but that default comment system is useless for giving replies. Thank you! Wishing you a great week!

Thanks so much, Carrie! Oh my goodness, we had such a great time! I think he needed the drink to relax a little. It is rather intimidating to take photos in your underwear! But our photographer was great with getting good flattering angles and making us comfortable…he knows what he’s doing, thankfully! I have had him behind the camera for a few photoshoots over the years. This blog is definitely a family and friend affair. Haha.

Thanks so much, Jess! We did have such a good time with this photoshoot! We had to make light of it or else I would never have the nerve to do it. I really do like these hemp underwear. I am wearing them again today and they are very comfortable and soft.

I’m a fan of cotton undies :). I’ve never tried hemp before, though. I’ll have to check out WAMA :). Kudos to you for posing in your undies! I don’t even have my photo taken in a swimsuit ;).

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Anita! I have always opted for cotton underwear as well. These are a blend so they really do feel like cotton but a little lighter weight. You should take your photo in your swim suit or undies even if you don’t show anyone, it’s actually quite liberating!

I am just loving that last photo! You can really tell you both had so much fun with this shoot. I give you both a lot of credit as I don’t think I could ever take my photo in any type of underwear (even ones that look as comfy as yours!).

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Joanne! I was so happy with how these photos turned out because you can see how much fun we have together. That is basically how we are all the time! It definitely took some courage to strip down to my undies and take photos and share them. But it is also very empowering and liberating to do it, too!

OK, you are ONE HOT MAMA, my friend. And getting to Jeff with drink in hand and lounging on the sofa, I am super impressed with you two! It looks like you had LOTS of fun posing for this post and you both look amazing in your undies!! Well done! I will be checking out these hemp panties as I feel natural fabrics really are best for undergarments.

I also always enjoy the posts you highlight and I adore both looks from Anne and Sheila! They are so inspiring.

    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thank you so much! I have been feeling incredible lately and so has Jeff! We have both been making healthier lifestyle choices and have both reached our lowest weight in the course of our relationship. Isn’t it funny how in the beginning of a relationship, people tend to get all comfortable and gain weight. Then you get years down the road and you lose the weight together with the support of the other. It was still a little intimidating to share photos in our underwear though! Haha. But we had a great time doing and I am glad that we did. I am happy you enjoyed the post and my featured favorites!

Haha, thanks so much, Rena! I really do like these underwear! I have been wearing, washing, and wearing again! We had such a fun time with this photoshoot. Jeff is such a great sport about all things blogging! I literally feel like the luckiest girl in the world on a daily basis.

  • Sheila (of Ephemera)

I love these pics of you and Jeff, Shelbee! I can tell you have a loving and happy relationship, just by how you look together. I’m also cheering for your body confidence – you look incredible, girlfriend! I love bamboo and hemp clothing – I buy my undies locally, made local, so I’m a fan of all-natural in my lady-parts. Let’s keep those vags happy, shall we?

And then my shock: oh hey, it’s me! Thanks so much for featuring me in your wrap-up! And thank you – as always – for the link-party!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Sheila! Jeff and I really do have the most wonderful relationship. We make each other laugh every single day and that is so important to me and so good for the soul! I have always told him, “Make me laugh and keep me forever!” which is usually followed by “Forever is a really long time.” Haha (Actually, the quote on the back of our wedding album says that…forever is a really long time!) I have been feeling great these days which I think is reflecting outward in my photos! I love that you buy locally made all natural fabric undies. How great is that?!

You and your hubs are so cute in your matching undies—he’s such a good sport (is that a glass of scotch in his hand?!). I have a bunch of hemp tees from a brand called Jungmaven and they’re my favorite because they’re so soft and don’t get all pilly like cotton does. Hemp is such a durable (and sustainable) fiber, we should be using more of it!

Thanks so much, Cheryl! My husband is such a great sport with blogging things! He got a kick out of doing this photoshoot with me. I think he is drinking rum in that glass actually. Although it could be scotch. I have no idea what he drinks anymore! Haha. Now that he’s retired and can smoke weed with me, he drinks much less and switches his drink choices more frequently. He used to only drink rum and Coke. Now I never know what’s in his glass! But I do now what’s in his underwear! Hahahahahahaha

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Michelle! Yeah, I am really into all the eco friendly brands that are out there trying to make a positive difference in the world. And the undies really are very breathable and comfortable! I am having fun watching Jeff blossom into a damn super model over here! Haha.
