Pantyhose That Don’t Suck: Sheertex Opaque Tights Review & Link Up On the Edge #185

You know how I love my tights. I would wear them all year round if the temperatures stayed mild enough on both ends of the seasonal spectrum. I love the way they feel. I love the way they make my legs look. I love the way they erase all the little blemishes and dimples that appear on these 45 year old limbs. I love the way they accentuate that curve of the calf and the way they highlight the contour of the thigh.

But there are a few things that I don’t love about tights. I don’t love if they are too tight or too loose around the waist. There is nothing more annoying than the waistband of your tights rolling down and finding that crevice just below the belly roll to settle in as a constant reminder that my tummy is not as firm or as flat as it once was. There is nothing more uncomfortable than the waistband of your tights squeezing you so firmly that breathing becomes a chore and eating becomes less enjoyable. There is nothing more frustrating than spending 10, 20, or even 30 dollars for a quality pair of tights only to have them snag on your fingernail, a vagrant shard of wood splintering underneath your desk, or any multitude of sharp fragments of things in this world that will leave a run in your hose, a hole in your pocketbook, and anger in your heart.

How many of you have found yourself in a fit of rage when your pantyhose or tights rip or run the first, second, or even third time that you have worn them? Wasted money can embitter even the most even tempered person.

When Sheertex reached out to me to see if I would be interested in trying a pair of “the strongest pantyhose in the world,” my interest was definitely piqued. As a woman who wears tights and pantyhose regularly, I was certainly interested to find out if Sheertex actually lived up to their claim as the toughest tights on the market and “pantyhose that don’t suck.”

As part of this collaborative review, Sheertex offered me any pair of tights, pantyhose, or thigh highs available in their product line. Ranging from ultrasheer to very opaque with options that include sparkles, glimmers and glows, back seams, patterns, and a variety of colors to choose from, there is something for everyone available. Sheertex also offers sizes that range from small to 3XL as well as short, regular, and tall options in each size to accommodate people from 4’11” to 6’1” in all shapes and forms.

While I love brightly colored and crazy patterned tights just as much as the next girl, I find myself reaching for my black opaques more than anything. So as I browsed through all of the Sheertex options, finding myself wanting them all, I decided to be practical and chose the Black Opaque Tights. I am not often practical, but with a price tag of $59 a pair, I decided practical was important for my first time trying Sheertex. I consulted the size chart and found myself fitting right smack in the middle of the XL Regular.

When my new tights arrived in the mail, I was super excited to try them out. They came in very lively packaging that just exuded excitement and joy. You can tell that this is a company that is confident in their product and their claims to have solved the problem of runny hose!

In 2017, founder and Ceo Katherine Homuth faced this age old challenge and was determined to solve an impossible problem. After 18 months of trial and error during the research and development process, Kat had developed a unique super-strong polymer that is similar to the stuff found in ballistic materials and climbing gear. The suppliers that Kat had been consulting said it couldn’t be done, but finally she had found a way to turn this unique polymer into an ultra-strong knit technology: “a one-of-a-kind formula that transforms bulletproof vests into pantyhose.” But enough about what Sheertex has to say about their own product. You are probably more interested in my personal experience with these tights.

To sum it up in a few words…they definitely live up to all the hype. These tights are basically fabulous in every way. I only wore them once so far, but they are super high rise with an extra thick waistband that feels more like I am wearing sleep leggings than pantyhose. While the waistband was incredibly comfortable and stayed in place all day with no rolling, no slipping, no annoying sliding down, I do think I should have sized down to a Large only because they felt a little loose around the knees and ankles. But not so loose that it bothered me. I did not take any photos of the waistband because I had no where inside with decent lighting to show you, but do go check out the product photos to see what I am talking about. Not only is the knit technology phenomenal, but the design itself is meant for all day comfortability. These are seriously the most comfortable tights I have ever worn…and I have worn a lot of tights.

Now onto the price tag because I know that can be an issue for some folks. The opaque tights that I have chosen retail for $59 a pair. This is one reason I opted for the black opaques because I know I will wear them more than any other color or style so I want to ensure that I get a decent price per wear. Taking that into consideration, I generally spend anywhere between $10-20 for a pair of opaque tights unless I can scoop them up in bulk on a clearance sale somewhere. Tights in that price range will get me anywhere from 10-20 wears before they start to get pulls and runs and holes. I am fairly careful with my hosiery, washing them on gentle and hanging them to dry, but regular hosiery technology is not meant to withstand much more than that. Because I am careful with my tights, I probably get more wears out of mine than the typical pantyhose wearer. So $59 for a pair of tights that I will wear at least once a week for many years to come is actually quite a bargain. If you want to give these amazing pantyhose a try, be sure to use code SHELBEE10 at checkout for $10 off your purchase.

These tights are also self healing. So any lines or snags that may appear can be removed simply by pulling the tights outward until the imperfections are rubbed out of existence. How freaking cool is that? I received a sample piece of fabric to really play around with and I pulled and tugged and stretched and dug my fingernails into them with as much force as I had and all it did was snap back to its original shape no worse for my abuse.

I cannot say enough good things about these tights except that I am hugely impressed and I am definitely a fan and I will be adding more Sheertex tights to my hosiery collection in the near future. You absolutely get what you pay for and look great while be completely comfortable, too!

Have you struggled with all the hassles that go along with wearing tights or pantyhose? If you have, I highly recommend trying a pair of Sheertex. Be sure to enter code SHELBEE10 at checkout for $10 off your order. You can also find Sheertex on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

I will be glad to get rid of my tights! Haha, it is so hard to find good ones. And we used to have little shops that sold all sorts and prints, but they are all gone! Happy weekend love!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ah, I love my tights and cannot imagine not having them! You would love these, I think, Nancy. As they feel more like wearing leggings than tights. I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well, my friend.

Knowing you are a true connoisseur of hosiery, I was eager to see what you thought about these luxe tights! I think it’s definitely worth spending more, particularly on essentials like black opaques, for tights that don’t make us mad! I’m not sure if these are available in the UK yet but will check.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Gail! If I could replace all of the colors of the tights that I have with Sheertex ones, I totally would. They feel more like wearing comfortable leggings than stockings. It looks like they only ship to the US and Canada right now, but they do also have information about international shipping, so now I am not sure. I bet if they continue to grow, they will ship internationally fairly soon.

I’ve heard so many great things about this brand! It drives me crazy when I put on a new pair of tights and immediately snag them. Thank you for sharing your detailed review! Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks, Mireille! They are so comfortable! My biggest issue with tights is finding ones that are comfortable all day long. These have fully met that criteria with the bonus being that they won’t snag or tear. And I agree, they are worth the investment for me because I do wear tights so frequently.

Nice review. I picked the sheer ones with the backseam. And I am so happy with them. You can’t even imagine how many I riped before. And these are still intact, so sign of wear despite wearing them like wash, wear , wash. LOL. Thanks for hosting the party. Nicole of High Latitude Style

Going to sound like a dumb male here. I like tights on women but you just taught me a lot about the major problems of them. Learned a whole lot and my education grows. $59 bucks is a lot but if they are not going to snag or anything and they are going to last for a while then they are worth it.

Looking very nice. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Patrick! I am glad that I could shed some light onto some of the things we deal with under our clothes! Honestly, $59 seems high for one pair of tights, but when I need new black tights, I will usually buy 2 or 3 pairs at a time at $20 a pair. No need for that now! Have a great weekend!

  • Anne M Bray

Oh gee, I got a solicitation from them, but I didn’t get beyond the “pantyhose” part of the pitch. Sigh. I don’t wear pantyhose, I DO wear tights! There’s another tights issue you forgot to mention — when they’re “just a little bit” too small and won’t stay upon the lower torso. And the crotch slowly creeps south between bathroom visits. I have a beautiful red/black pair that are a mismarked size (M instead of L) that do exactly that and I only wore them once. Grrrrr.
The cost is daunting, I too go for the same $10-20 price range as you. But with your great review, I might give them a try. Is your code time sensitive?
    Have a great weekend! xo

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ah, Anne! You missed out! Maybe you can email them and see if you can still get on board. I can’t get over how comfortable they are. The top is seriously designed like leggings, but better because I have the same sliding down issue with leggings. These came up really high with this nice wide comfy band that went right under my boobs and they stay in place. No drooping, no rolling, no slipping, no sliding, no sagging. And I can relate to those just too small tights that get droopy crotch. So annoying! I cut the feet out of those so I can pull them up higher. Haha. Oh, and there is no time limit on my discount code.

      xoxo

      • Anne M Bray

I have been thinking about your “cutting the feet off” concept and put it into practice this morning. I cut them so I also got ankle socks. (I spent a few days pondering, leggings? Long socks? I went with Both). The former tights are now below-the-knee capri leggings! You’ll see the results later today on IG when I post my outfit.
Thanks for the tip! Don’t know why I didn’t think of it!

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Gah, that is awesome! I have totally made socks out of cut off tights as well. But I have done that when tights get massive runs, I will turn them into trouser socks because I seem to always be in need of thinner socks that I don’t have. I can’t wait to see the result of your little DIY project!

And isn’t it funny how sometimes the most obvious of things escapes us? Until very recently, Jeff would make enough hard boiled eggs for an entire week and then he would store the eggs in a tupperware container. Until a friend pointed out to us, why not store the hard boiled eggs back in the egg carton and simply mark that carton as hard boiled? We were both literally blown away that we missed how completely obvious and sensical this was! Don’t know how we didn’t think of that one either!

So the message here is…be grateful for friends who point out the obvious????

          xoxo

Ha. I put an X in pencil on mine.

The tights>leggings? After a couple of hours in them… they are still doing the creep-down. I think it’s a “circumference” issue. Hahaha. Pass the cupcakes!

          • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ah…that darn circumference problem! Before you grab the cupcakes maybe try some bike shorts over them to hold them in place? Although that is just too many layers to be dealing with. Never mind. I’ll share the cupcakes with you! The more layers the better when it comes to dessert!

  • Ellibelle

You look fantastic in this outfit! Loving the bits of pink on the scarf and skirt! It’s good to know there are alternatives to the tights and pantyhose we’re all used to! Having the elastic band cut into your belly is just awful, sometimes almost painful especially when your bladder gets full (Speaking from experience LOL!) I’m not wearing dresses or skirts too much these days so rarely wear them, but will definitely keep this brand in mind if I need to update a pair. Thanks for sharing and for hosting the linkup!
    Ellibelle’s Corner

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Ellie! I can totally relate to the full bladder being squeezed by too tight pantyhose! And definitely if you need a pair of tights or stockings, these are totally worth the investment. You won’t have to buy another pair again especially if you don’t wear them frequently. I hope you have wonderful weekend!

Shelbee, I don’t wear pantyhose anymore but you have already inspired me to wear colored tights! I bought some mustard and some bright blue ones last month and have been intending to do a post. Alas, not yet. These look like a great product and worth the price as they are so strong. And repair themselves??!! What….???! Very cool. Cool packaging, too. Thanks for sharing.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thanks so much! I rarely wear actual sheer pantyhose anymore either, but you know I love my tights! I am so glad that I inspired you and I can’t wait to see how you style your mustard and bright blue tights. I think my mustard ones might be my favorites! Once you get the bug for tights, you are definitely going want to try a pair of Sheertex! Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you so much for the feature. You made my day. I have so much fun with this post. I’m glad that you like it too. It is goo that you tested this new product for us. I ripped off so many tights that is almost impossible. I’m able to rip off tights even before they are first time up. It makes me crazy. I’m living happily thighs-free for nearly 6 years due to the hot weather here in Singapore. I’m so happy that in the meantime somebody solves this problem because once I am back home, I’ll need them. The price isn’t exactly small, but if they last long, I think it is totally worth it.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Anna, thanks so much for reading my review. The price is a bit high on these but I figure I pay that much for three pairs that won’t last as long as this one pair, so it really is worth it. And maybe by the time you need them, they will ship internationally. I think they only ship to the US and Canada right now. They are an amazing product for sure! And I really did love your copy cat look of Jennifer Aniston! You look amazing in that outfit! Have a wonderful weekend.

Those tights sound like they are worth their weight in gold. And you cracked me up when you chatted about the annoyances of tights that snag, roll up, squeeze too tight because I’ve been there too often. Though I don’t wear them too often in Florida, I do like to have them for special occasions. Thanks for the great review Shelbee!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Chrissy, thanks so much! I do like to add a bit of humor from life into my posts! I have had some serious tights nightmares in my lifetime. Haha. These really are quite fabulous. And if you only wear one color of tights when you do wear them, these are definitely worth the investment because you would never have to buy another pair again! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

I loved this post Shelbee. I agree with you that the correct opaque tights can be so flattering. I have quite a few pairs in all colours and patterns. Some fit well and behave themselves by not rolling down…I love how they can flatter the legs while pulling the tummy in. I do think it’s worth paying a little more. you show them off beautifully in the pics and I loved the packaging they arrived in. they look a good quality garment that will serve you well and last.

I’m not a fan of tights, mainly because they remind me of high school. They were horrible and I don’t think I ever came across a pair that didn’t roll down all day. Don’t get me started on runs. I’ve heard about Sheertex and their unbreakable fabric. I would love to see it in action myself!

Normally I’d be hesitant to pay $59 for a pair of tights/hose (or $49 with your code), but really, if they’ll last a year or 2, it’s going to be a bargain. I’m so glad to hear that you loved these because I really want to wear tights more often. I love your outfit, too! The knit headband is really cute on you. I have one I’ve never worn just because I’ve never felt it looked great on me. Maybe I’ll have to pull it out and give it another try. And I love the wedge booties. I’ve seen those here and there and am thinking I’m going to need to get a pair….

    VogueFauxReal

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ruth, thanks so much! Honestly, for as frequently as I wear tights, the cost of the Sheertex is worth it because I am always getting runs or holes in mine and having to replace them at about $15 a pair. I feel like the Sheertex I will only have to be adding different colors without having to replace them ever.

I think you should definitely give your knit headband another try! And my wedge booties are super old. I haven’t worn them in years! But I am glad that I held onto them because they worked perfectly with this outfit.

Had a friend tell me recently that no one wear panty hose any more. I do!! My legs get too cold without them in the winter. And I like wearing tights, too. But sometimes I want a nude color hose. And these look durable yet beautiful. Have a tab open with your link so I can check them out. The glimmer option looks so pretty!! Thanks for introducing these to us.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much for reading, Leslie! I sometimes wear nude pantyhose as well because it stays cold where I live until about mid-June. So if I want to start wearing spring clothes before summer arrives, I need my legs covered, too. These Sheertex are so amazing. I think I may want to get a nude pair as well. They really are worth the up front investment because you won’t need to replace them.

These tights look like they are indestructible! That’s great news! I have had pairs of tights that just weren’t worth the price or time. I also love that you mention the waist band doesn’t roll. Add in their resilience and they really are quite amazing.

I bought the Sheertex leggings (footless pantyhose) and these are indestructible. I have worn these canoeing, hiking , 4 wheeling and jogging and they still look like new. I bought them when their plant first opened in Bracebridge ON so I have wore them a lot.

        Hello Shelbee,
I haven’t been on the Sheertex site for some time and never realized that they have black opaque tights in !00 denier. Looking at your photo they look almost as thick as a very comfortable pair of leggings, I think when I see a sale I’ll get a pair. They look so comfortable.

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Yes, Jamie, they are very much like a comfortable pair of leggings! So great for all day wear. My discount code, SHELBEE10, should still be good for $10 off your order. But it doesn’t look like they are accepting new orders at this time since they were forced to temporarily shut down. They didn’t put a time limit on that code though, so maybe it will work for you later!
