My Top 6 Must-Have Fall Trends & Link Up On the Edge #111

All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are entirely my own.

If you wear clothes, then you are probably acutely aware that fashion is fickle and trends that make their appearance on the sartorial stage tend to change frequently. However, there are certain styles that remain steadfastly classic year in and year out. Fortunately, we live in an environment where pretty much anything goes as far as personal style is concerned. With fashion bloggers of every age and generation supporting the empowerment of all women to wear whatever they like, the fashion climate has experienced a shift where you can find basically any style your fashionista heart desires. If it makes you feel good and you smile with confidence while wearing it, then you will certainly look great, too.

As a lifelong lover of fashion, I find myself constantly scrolling through Pinterest for new styling tricks, tips, and trends, but I always remain true to my own unique style. One that does not, will not, and never has fit into a perfect little box of beige predictability. That being said, I do still get inspired by what’s new and fun and fabulous in the world of fashion. With fall directly upon us, I thought I would take a look at what is currently trending and share some of my must-haves for the upcoming season.

Obviously, some trends are not for me while others make my heart skip a beat. Some are so authentically timeless and classic that you can never go wrong. Some are updated repetitions from decades past with a cool current twist. And some of these repeated styles from days of yore should have probably been left there. Nevertheless, there are always people who will follow the next big trend and the world of fashion will continue to deliver the new and exciting, the strange and unique, and the classic and timeless. It is up to us to define our own personal style and make it perfectly fit to showcase who we are in our everyday wear.

So this list is not necessarily the hottest trends for Fall-Winter 2018-2019, but rather it is my top 6 must-have trends for this fall.

1. Velvet.

Gosh, how I adore this plush, soft fabric that flashes me back to eras long before my existence. Paired with lace for a feminine antique feel or combined with leather for an updated edgier vibe, I could seriously have an entire wardrobe that consists of velvet and be forever satisfied. From dresses to suits to shoes, boots, and socks. Scarves and bags, pants, tops, and my forever favorite kimonos. Velvet, whether it is trending or not, will remain in my outfit rotation for always.

These velvet trousers from the Toni Collection from Peter Hahn are the perfect addition to any woman’s wardrobe if you are wanting to try something velvet in an understated way. With a classic trouser style in a two way stretch velvet and available in six different colors, you can’t go wrong.  And this long herringbone blazer with velvet trimmings almost made me die from swooning.

2. Anything Green.

My forever favorite color is green, in particular deep and rich shades of emerald, forest, or olive green. For as long as I can remember, I have possessed a strong affinity for this color that appears so abundantly in nature. I don’t know if it came from mother always highlighting the fact that I have green eyes, so green looks great on me or I just really have a passion for this hue. Regardless of its origins, my love for green runs deep.

Not currently living a lifestyle that requires me to own too much business wear, I find it is always good to have killer suiting on hand if ever needed. Since I don’t wear business suits very often, I am more inclined to invest in quality suiting that makes a statement like this green striped blazer by Marc Aurel. Seriously, this jacket made me do a happy dance! Not only would be it be great for a business affair, but it would look amazing paired with a graphic tee, distressed jeans, and some killer shoes.  And this long cozy cardigan in the shade of pistachio would not only keep me warm all winter long, but it would make me oh so happy as well.

3. Leopard Print.

Leopard is hot, hot, hot again this season along with all sorts of other animal prints like zebra and snakeskin. I have been a huge fan of leopard for quite some time and have amassed a collection of spotted things. Mostly, I seem to prefer this print on accessories, in particular shoes. Yes, please, give me all the animal print shoes!

Currently Craving:

These Scarpio Chelsea Boots with a hint of leopard and these leopard suede loafers from Peter Hahn pretty much need to find their way into my collection, like right now. I am also really digging this gorgeous leopard bomber jacket, too. And if I decide to step away from the leopard and go for some sassy reptile print, this snakeskin jersey blazer is really quite fabulous. It has all kinds of edge and so much sass.

4. Camouflage.

One might suspect that as an Army wife, I would get sick and tired of camouflage print. Not true at all. I absolutely love it and need it in my life. I have always, for as long as I can remember, loved camo print on feminine clothing designs. Long before I ever married the military. I remember my sister’s friend in high school made her own prom dress in a camo print and I was intrigued, fascinated, and completely obsessed since that day in the early 80’s. If it is girly and it is camouflage, I want to own it.

I am completely crushing on this gray camo jersey jacket and this cool camo tunic.  I love mixing camo print with other patterns like floral and leopard!

5. Plaid.

Can we talk about plaid for a minute? Does it ever really go out of style? I think not. Sometimes certain patterns trend hotter than others, but there is always some tartan that is the hottest new print of the season. As a girl who came of age during the grunge era, plaid always has a place in my heart. I tend to steer away from it during the warmer months, but once fall starts to drop hints of cooler weather, my hankering for all the plaid begins to resurface once again.

One of my favorite things in plaid is blazers. I have a few but none of them fit quite right. So I have been scoping out some classic plaid blazers with a modern edge to pair with my distressed denim and graphic tees this fall. This Glen plaid longline blazer is totally speaking my sartorial language as is this plaid blazer with contrasting striped cuffs.

6. Graphic Sweaters.

Graphic tees have been all the rage in recent years, but this fall why not upgrade your positive message to your sweaters? I have to admit, it took me a while to get on board with the graphic tee trend because it took me some time to find the right graphic that really spoke to me. I need the message to be happy and positive and filled with kindness, love, and light. Once I find a message that I want to share on my shirt, I am pretty much sold.

I currently only have one sweater with a graphic, but it is a really great message, indeed. When I spotted these cashmere jumpers with messages like love made me do it, love society, and reach for the starsI am pretty much having sweater envy.  I can’t think of anything better than a loving message on cashmere to complete my fall wardrobe.
