Just a North Country Cowgirl & Link Up On the Edge #148

This is a sponsored post. These boots were provided to me for purposes of this blog review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

I think I have wanted red cowgirl boots ever since I saw Ariel wearing those iconic red boots in Footloose 35 years ago. You know the ones I speak of, don’t you? Didn’t every young girl want to be as badass as she was back in 1984? I am certain I had cowgirl boots back then, but they definitely were not red. And I was only 10, so I am sure that even if I had red cowgirl boots, I certainly was not permitted to be as damn sexy as Ariel, the defiant preacher’s daughter. Wasn’t she the perfect example of teenage rebellion, too? And she got to make out with Kevin Bacon. Oh, swoon.

I rebelled a bit differently from Ariel when I was in high school. I traveled down the Grunge and Goth road instead of going country. But those red cowboy boots always stayed somewhere deep in my unconscious yearnings. The desire would resurface occasionally throughout the years and I would invest in a pair of boots along the way, but I never got the red ones.

Until now. Now I have the red ones! And I couldn’t be a happier cowgirl! I kept my country yearnings in the closet for a really long time, always feeling a little bit out of my element, like I couldn’t be a cowgirl living in the north. Except now I am out of the closet and have gone full on country. Because why the hell not? Every day is a new day. A chance to be whatever I want to be. Last week, I was feeling a little bit like Carrie Bradshaw, big city midlife fashionista. Yesterday, I wanted to be like Gwen Stefani, a sassy rock star. Today I want to be more like Ariel, the sexy, rebellious, preacher’s daughter. And tomorrow, who knows what I will want to be tomorrow. Tomorrow will let me know.

Lately, I have been approaching my wardrobe as a place to choose a role and play it for the day. Kind of like putting on a costume. And each day, I get to pick a new role. Whatever I want really. And my goodness, it is so much fun! It gets me going in the morning. It makes the mundane of daily life just a little bit more interesting. And I really wouldn’t have it any other way. Like Gwen Stefani says, “I’ve always been a girl who loves to dress up.” Yep, me, too. And I will always be that girl. The one who dresses up.

So today, I am a cowgirl just finding my country in these amazing red boots. By the way, did you see my gold floral cowgirl boots and my black floral ones, too? Did you also notice how excited I get when I find footwear that amazes me? I don’t know if my extreme levels of enthusiasm accurately translate through written words. But I seriously get so freaking happy! Not only will I always be the girl who dresses up, but I will always be the girl who gets super excited about anything related to fashion.

I used to struggle so hard with the fear of people judging me about my passion. Like it was so totally frivolous and vain. But you know what? It’s not. At all. It is extraordinarily important that we feel great about ourselves. And fashion and style give us an outlet to make that happen. So I no longer have shame about getting up, dressing up, and showing up. Every single day. Because our days our limited. And none of us know when they are going to run out.

I think everyone of us has a little bit of cowgirl deep down. I mean, even Gwen Stefani is a little bit cowgirl (hello, Blake Shelton). So why not find your country and embrace your inner cowgirl (or cowboy), too. It really is just a state of mind.

“Cowgirl is a spirit, a special brand of courage. The cowgirl faces life head on, lives by her own lights, and makes no excuses. Cowgirls take stands. They speak up. They defend the things they hold dear. A cowgirl might be a rancher, or a barrel racer, or a bull rider, or an actress. But she’s just as likely to be a checker at the local Winn Dixie, a full-time mother, a banker, an attorney, or an astronaut.”

Before I sign off, I have to tell you about these boots! First of all, the leather. Oh. My. God. The leather. The aroma as soon as I pulled them out of the box was like a cowgirl’s most comforting dream. I stood there and smelled the boots. As I gasped in delight, my children watched with speculation and were like, “Um, Mom…Why are you sniffing those boots like that?” All I could do was the hold the boots out for them to smell. They sniffed. But I am sure that they didn’t quite understood. Some day they will appreciate the scent of premium leather on well made footwear.

The fit. So. Astoundingly. Comfortable. Although, I ordered them a size up because often with a narrow toe, my feet get squeezed. I am usually a size 10-11 depending on the brand and style of shoes. I went with an 11 and they are slightly too big. I just added thick socks and I was good to go. My feet (and back) were thankful at the end of a long day. No pain. Only pleasure. Plus I received a whole bunch of compliments on my new red boots and that always makes a girl feel a little extra special!

And since I was just ranting about how excited I get over all things style related…I have to tell you that this is my very first romper! Ever in adult life. And it is so stinking adorable. And comfortable. But you guys, the bathroom is a serious issue! I pee frequently. Like multiple times an hour. What a hassle! This cute romper ties at the back of the neck. So I had to untie that first, then untie the belt, then take the whole thing down, then pull down the tights and underwear before I could even make toilet-contact! Then I had to do the entire process in reverse after relieving myself. No less than 2 dozen times throughout the day. I have not yet decided if the cuteness level of the romper is worth all that. Only time will tell.

So I have ranted and I have raved and I have praised and shared my enthusiasm with you all. Now go enter that giveaway! You can’t win if you don’t enter! And you can’t be a true cowgirl/cowboy without a fabulous pair of new boots!

So tell me, are you a cowgirl/cowboy?
