Inspired by Passion Fruit, Paws and Peonies & Link Up On the Edge #137

This is not a sponsored post.

I know. I know. You are all probably so tired of seeing my snowy photos. Unfortunately, I still have a lot of them to use up before it is even warm enough for me to begin sharing Spring fashions. So please bear with me. I have no control over the weather and I live in a place where it is Winter 11 months out if the year! But today, I have taken some inspiration from my dear blogging friend Maria of Passion Fruit, Paws and Peonies and have styled a lightweight dress for a wintry day.

Maria of Passion Fruit, Paws and Peonies

Granted, Maria shared her post, How to Use a Summer Dress in Winter, a full 2 months ago when it was actually Winter in the Northern Hemisphere. But Winter in the Northern Hemisphere generally means it is downright arctic in Northern New York State. Too cold to wear a Summer dress even with tights and sweaters layered on.

But now that it is officially Spring, the temperatures are becoming a bit milder. Enough for me to style a lightweight dress with lots of layers. Still wintry though. And there is a snow storm moving in so I have to keep dressing for the weather. I suspect I won’t be sporting open toed shoes or sundresses any time soon.

Yes, my warm weather friends, you have read that correctly. It is the end of March and we are expecting 6-10 inches of snow over the weekend. Hopefully, the winds will shift and send it somewhere else. But either way, we won’t escape the cold front.

So while I impatiently wait for Spring to arrive in the North Country, I will continue to do my best to keep myself put together. Maybe if you need some Winter styling inspiration, you can check back next year! In the meantime, I will smile right through it all…as I always do. Because you just can’t change the weather. No point in getting all worked up about it. At least I have accumulated a massive Winter wardrobe since moving here 6 years ago. Options are abundant.

To add a tiny bit of insult to this minor injury, my husband is flying off to Georgia just before the snow is scheduled to hit. I hope for his sake he gets out in time. But I must say that I am a bit envious that he will spending 7 days in the South while I am here freezing my butt off and getting my daily exercise via snow removal.

How are you all making the transition into Spring? I know we New Yorkers are not the only ones feeling perpetually stuck in Winter this year. This weather has been wonky to say the least. But it is what it is. And it is quite literally the least of my problems (as Ralphie just told me to get rid of his brother. Because kids. Have them, they said. It will be fun, they told me.) It’s all in the perspective. Stay fabulous and keep smiling!

And now the featured favorites from last week. It is kind of funny actually, the favorites this week. You see, I have a very difficult time choosing favorites, so I allow you all to choose the favorites by featuring the most clicked posts. Apparently two of Maria’s posts were your favorites last week as well. So not only has she inspired me for today’s outfit, but she clearly has inspired you all as well. In the interest of keeping some variety here, I am also featuring two more posts that you were clicked the most.

First is Maria of Passion Fruit, Paws and Peonies with her post, Spring Leisure Wear for Travel. I am absolutely in love with Maria’s dog tee, not to mention her overall style. Obviously.

Maureen of Little Miss Casual shared her post, Back to Basics: All Black Outfit. While I always adore Maureen’s style, this edgy look in black might be my favorite ever. Doesn’t she look completely badass?!

Maria, my friend, thank YOU for inspiring me! I always love seeing what you are styling. You have such a great sense of fashion. But I also enjoy all of the places you travel as well as everything else you share in your blog space. You are definitely an inspiration to so many in this blogging community! Have a great weekend!

You knocked it out of the park Shelbee – I love your outfit and Maria’s too – she has great style! That snow is so beautiful but I am sure y’all are OVER it! I hope you get spring weather soon. Too bad you can’t travel with your husband, it would be nice to get a break. I’ll be thinking of you friend!

Thanks so much, Debbie! Is there really an end to this winter vortex of living frozen hell?! Ha. I am wearing a lightweight dress again today with a moto jacket layered under a giant furry coat! Because…Winter in Spring. Yay!

Hey…that’s how the weather is here too, Shelbee. In fact, we’ve been known to have snow on Mother’s Day. Many times!! EEEK! But we have no control over it so why complain? I like the idea of going down to Georgia instead…ha ha. Too bad you can’t go with him.

I know you feel my Winter pain, Jodie! We also have snow straight through the month of May. And I have heard it has even snowed in June here, but I have never seen it! And the snow starts as early as September. So we literally can have snow 10 months out of the year. So crazy! But you are right, we need to just embrace it for all it is. But Georgia would be nice.

This is the cutest outfit! I love the plaid dress on you, and the cardigan look perfect with it! I just had to cancel my VT ski weekend because of the snow and travel. Spring weather need to arrive now!

I almost feel like some areas get more snow in the springtime because it gets warm enough to snow and in the winter it’s too cold! I hope it really and truly warms up for you soon! Love your layers!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Jess, thanks so much! Funny thing about this cardigan is that I don’t much like the fit, yet I wear it all the time! Because I love the lace up back! Oh yeah, the snow is pretty in November, December, and even January. By March and April, I am done with it!

You did an amazing job with this outfit! I can tell that you were inspired by her but you also have your own take on it – well done! As for the snow…that’s insane! Our weather has been all over the place too (but no snow). Hope you get some sunshine and warmth soon! <3

Great outfit hack, Shelbee. I like the laces on the back of the first cardigan. It was a good reminder to see you’ve accumulated a good-sized winter wardrobe. I’m sure that makes all the difference. I find it hard to scrounge up enough clothes if we have a series of days in the 50s–80 & 90s, I’ve got covered.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Kim! I actually have enough wardrobe pieces to have a million options in any kind of weather! Because I have a shopping problem and I love clothes and shoes. Tee hee. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I enjoyed reading this post. Not only does your outfit look fabulous, love that plaid dress and the lace up detail of your cardigan but your comment about having kids! It’s so true what you say. This little one of mine have no siblings but the things he says some times just makes me do a double take! I hope Spring shows up for you guys really soon. I know it was a nice change of pace for us when the sun came out this past weekend before the rain came back. The sunny weather was helpful with keeping happy. Since beginning of the year, my son and hubby has been getting sick. My son caught hfm virus at school followed by an ear infection then he almost got another bout of ear infection before my hubby fell ill to the flu! My hubby is better from the flu now but my son started getting congested two days ago. He is back to coughing and sniffling and I am just hoping it doesn’t get bad enough that it turns into another infection. So keeping my fingers crossed that it’s nothing! Lastly, thank you so much Shelbee for the feature! Always honored and I did feel badass when I took those photos. I have to admit it is also my favorite thus far! I hope you are having a great Friday so far and wishing you a very beautiful weekend!

Maureen, my friend, thank you so much for stopping by and commenting! These kids really are something else, aren’t they? They certainly keep us on our toes! I am so sorry that sickness has been making its way all through your house. Archie came down with some kind of awful viral infection last week with a 103 fever and missed 2 days of school. Fortunately, his flu test came back negative and he seems back to normal now. And Ralph had 5 kids in his class who tested positive for flu. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that we all stay healthy in my house. Hopefully Spring comes soon and pushes flu season away! Have a wonderful weekend!

I just love this plaid dress with the soft chenille sweater. I will never tire of photos of you against the stark white of the snow. But I can certainly relate how difficult it is to deal with such cold for so long. OMG 10 inches of snow on the way. Wah- but you do look very beautiful especially in that lavender overcoat.

Thank you, Elle! I really appreciate that. Fortunately, the snow storm last night was not as bad as predicted and only a few inches of snow resulted. I can deal with that, but I certainly won’t be wearing any open toed shoes or sleeveless numbers any time soon! I hope you have the most wonderful weekend.

Thanks so much, Mireille! The snow storm that came through here last night turned out to be not as bad as predicted. It looks like only a few inches of snow fell rather than a foot! Enjoy your weekend, my friend!

This is such a cute flannel outfit. I’m not surprised about the weather, I have friends around your area and they are constantly complaining about the snow. Stay warm, Shelbee!

Love this look Shelbee, your dress is beautiful. Love Maria’s outfit too. Great inspiration 🙂
