Inspired by Doused in Pink: Olive Jeans & Link Up On the Edge #131

This is not a sponsored post.

As this winter and the crummy weather continue on, it gets more and more difficult to get creative with my wardrobe. I am one who truly believes that every day is a special occasion for which we should get up, dress up, and show up with a smile. I mean, we have to get dressed every time we walk out into the world anyway, so why not feel great in your clothes? But as the snow continues to pummel us here in the North Country, followed by rain, followed by an ice storm, followed by a weather forecast that includes more snow for 6 of the next 9 days, I am running out of outfit ideas and kind of want to just snuggle up in my sweatpants and not leave the house until Spring.

But alas, hibernation is not an option for this girl. There are things that need to be done. Plus I can’t stand being cooped up in the house for more than a day or two. And I have a closet filled with a million wonderful things that can be used to create an endless amount of different outfits. So when the gray skies start to bring me down, I look to my blogger friends for inspiration. Plus I really like this Inspired By series because it is just another opportunity to put the spotlight on those amazing friends who continuously bring kindness into the blogging community.

Just the other day, I was feeling in quite the outfit slump and then I spotted Jill’s post, How to Style Olive Jeans in 3 Ways. If you all don’t know Jill, she is the Chicago-based creator of the style blog Doused in Pink. Jill believes that “style is all about finding pieces that work for you and that are practical for your lifestyle.” The mission of her blog is to “inspire women to embrace their personal style, wear what they love and feel confident when they walk out the door.” Jill is definitely speaking the same language as me right there. Anyway, she shared this post with 3 ways to style olive jeans. And I had totally forgotten about my olive jeans. I was loving all three ways that Jill was wearing hers, so I took the first two outfits from her post and sort of combined them into my own interpretation.

I was loving the stripes with the olive pants, but I was also really digging the tall boots. While olive and black is one of my favorite color combinations, I have been wearing so much black lately that I had to just NOT. So I changed it up with some navy blue. By trial and error, I came up with this navy, off white, and olive combination that is inspired by both of Jill’s outfits and I really kind of like it. My pants are bit more brown than olive because I couldn’t find the ones that green.

I’m pretty certain that Chicago is getting hit with some pretty harsh winter weather as well, so I’m guessing Jill probably wore a coat with her outfit when she wasn’t quickly snapping photos in the freezing cold. I, however, need my coat and blanket scarf basically at all times! Plus I just got this blue faux fur trimmed coat from JustFab and wanted to show it off a bit.

And these navy blue boots have not yet made an appearance.

Everything else that I am wearing has been hanging around my closet for quite some time. A few years at least. In fact, my olive/brown skinny jeans were a bit baggy since my recent weight loss. I am certain there is another pair that fits me better (and is more green in color) buried in the mess somewhere. I will find them one day and it will seem like they are brand new pants at that point. That is one fun thing about a super messy overflowing closet…when you find things that you haven’t seen in a while, it is kind of a like a shopping spree without spending any more money. Am I right?

How are you all getting along with the insanity of Mother Nature these days? I am struggling in more than just the wardrobe department. My kids have had off so many days of school at this point that they are most likely losing Spring break. And if this persists, they may not even get a Summer break! Too bad. So sad, kids.

And now your featured favorites from last week.

Shugunna of Nzuri N Simplicity shared her post, Stepping into Yours… Funny story that Shugunna shared at the end of this post…she had never joined a link party before and was having some difficulties getting her thumbnails to appear. After a few private emails, we got it all worked out and then her post was the most clicked in the entire link up (out of all 148 links). That made me smile! See…persistence pays off! Plus, it is a really great post, very inspiring, and Shugunna’s outfit is beyond fabulous!
