I Scream, You Scream, It’s Oogie’s Ice Cream & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #74

With Memorial Day in the United States being the unofficial start of summer, there’s no better time than now to share a post about ice cream! After all, who doesn’t love ice cream? And who doesn’t get all the nostalgic feelings of childhood rush in upon them when you hear the ice cream truck rolling down the street? For me and my sister, the nostalgia runs deep. When we were kids, my father had ice cream trucks in the summer to earn some extra cash. My older sister, Lori, who was 16 at the time, was sent out on her own truck back then and would sometimes take me along to help. I was just 10, but I remember it fondly. We had some crazy laughs running our little ice cream truck route!

Flash forward a couple decades to about 10 years ago…my father is long gone, but my sister had a dream. A dream about ice cream. And those old trucks that she used to drive. So she started saving and searching…until she found her perfect vintage ice cream truck. Through blood, sweat, frozen fingers, and a whole lot of hard work, she made her dream come true. And she named it after my father…Oogie, a local legend, everyone loved and adored him. And now everyone loves and adores Oogie’s Ice Cream!

So when I went to visit my sister for a few days last week, I put on an Oogie’s Ice Cream tee shirt and headed off to an event with her. Just like in the old days! And we had just as many as laughs as we did back then.

And then we launched into a full blown photo session and we laughed even harder! Since my sis is a bit insanely camera shy, you will only catch a glimpse or two of her reflection in my sunglasses! You will have to look closely to see her.

And since my sister is my biggest supporter and the one who pushed me to start this blog in the first place nearly 3 years ago, it’s about time I gave her some blog space! So here I am shamelessly plugging my sister’s small business…you know how I love to support small local women-owned businesses! Give her a follow on her social media accounts (you can find those below). And if you are local to the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, area, check her out online to book Oogie’s Ice Cream for your next event this Summer!

I got all the special Oogie’s treatment for my photo shoot, too. My name on the chalkboard. And free ice cream, duh! While this is not a sponsored post and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own, I suppose I was compensated with all the ice cream I could eat for two straight days!

And I stole my sister’s earrings for the photos, too. She was a little grossed out by my doing that…but even more grossed out when my response was, “We grew inside the same womb, why is wearing your earrings so weird?”
