“As is our confidence, so is our capacity.”

William Hazlett

Have you been in a style slump this past year? Has it effected your self-confidence? I know I have struggled with these things recently and I realized that looking and feeling great are hugely important for building and maintaining confidence. How we can better improve this area of our lives is a topic worth discussing. Our fashion and beauty choices can tell a lot about who we are and how we feel. Therefore, it is important to create a well-balanced beauty regimen that is easy and reliable to help enhance your positive feelings, improve your appearance, and boost your self-confidence.

Now let’s consider how to create a strong and structured beauty routine that will help you in the process to achieving a healthy level of self-confidence. Enhancing your well-being and self-esteem is so important and revising your look is a really great way to make some positive changes and boost your confidence. Consider the following tips for implementing a new beauty regimen and making your way to your best, most confident self, beginning right now.

1. Choose the Right Makeup

The right makeup can make all the difference in the way you look but it is really important to ensure that you choose the proper makeup for your skin type and tone. If you are not experienced in makeup application or choosing the correct products and colors for your complexion, it may be helpful to visit a beauty counter for professional assistance. There are certain beauty essentials women are looking to use each week and they can offer ideas to help you find your perfect beauty regimen.

2. Select the Perfect Outfits

A lot of different aspects must be considered when you are looking to improve your fashion and beauty routine. A key part of any beauty routine is choosing a wardrobe and outfit styles that suit your needs, your personality, and your lifestyle. It is important to consider any specific clothing requirements that you may have and remember to stick to them so you don’t end up with a closet filled with nothing to wear. For example, adaptive clothing for women is absolutely essential if you use a wheelchair. You want your wardrobe pieces to be comfortable but also stylish.

3. Get Plenty of Rest

Adequate sleep is a key factor for improving your overall health and well-being as well as your physical appearance. Our bodies need all sorts of things to perform at their maximum capacity, but sufficient sleep is probably the absolute most important of all the things you can do to benefit your body and your health. Rest is vital for improving the body and mind and sticking to a consistent sleep schedule with the appropriate amount of sleep is immensely important for both mental and physical rest and rejuvenation.

“When you have confidence, you can do anything.”

Sloane Stevens

These three easy steps are the basics that we can all attend to in order to boost our moods, elevate our self-confidence, and find our way to living our very best lives. We only get one body and one chance to do this thing. We should do it as stylishly and in as healthy a manner as possible. Living life with self-confidence is immensely more rewarding than living life feeling inadequate.

What kinds of things boost your self-confidence and enhance your life?

I agree, confidence is a key ingredient in beauty! Great points in the article and thank you so much for the shout out – such a sweet surprise!
Have a wonderful weekend my friend and thank you for the link up!

    Kellyann

Thanks so much, Kellyann! I feel like this past year my confidence was like an unwashed garment that I couldn’t wear until I removed all the stains! How is that for an analogy?! Haha. But it’s all clean now and I have been wearing my confidence more frequently! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

Seeing you gives me the shivers, so cold! haha. I think when my hair looks okay, to me, then I feel good. I really hate it when my hair doesn’t want to do what I want. I hate it anyway when things aren’t going the way I want them to go…..but that is anotherr story! Lol.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my goodness, Nancy, you are so funny! I don’t like when things don’t go my way either! It actually was a really warm day when we shot these photos. But it is cold again with lots of rain and still the possibility of some snow showers as the temperatures are near freezing at night. So I wasn’t cold in these photos but I am now! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

These are all great points! Wearing makeup and clothing that you feel confident in is key. But, getting enough sleep is even more important. I never feel put together on the days where I’m exhausted. Love this darling dress on you! Have a wonderful weekend!

You are so right about the sleep aspect. I have had sleep issues for years, however this past year it has been a real struggle. Even though I thought I was handling the whole pandemic situation fairly well, my sleep patterns say otherwise…and it’s very apparent after particularly rough nights! xo

Oh Debbie, I can totally relate! I have struggled with sleep issues my entire life and now menopause hormones are making it even worse. However, I have learned to listen to my body more and when I am feeling tired, I go to bed! And I am so grateful that I have that luxury to just stop and rest when I need to. I hope you are feeling well, my friend! Have a lovely weekend.

I was curious after you wrote You had another post with the same tee, different color. This one is so much fun, and it seems like you wear it with more …well, confidence than the grey one!

      • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Barbara, thanks so much! I definitely felt more confident in the teal one! The color is much more cheerful than dull old gray! I also was so happy to be able to bare my legs for these photos. When I wore the gray one, it was just too cold.

This is another fabulous color on you!!
And great tips for boosting confidence! Getting dressed and ready to leave the house each day helps my confidence so much, even if I don’t end up going anywhere and all I do is chores around the house. But it just feels good to be “ready”. I do need to work on getting to sleep sooner though!! I feel like I could really benefit from an extra half an our of sleep!!
    Have a good weekend!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Ellie! I do love this color, too, but I don’t own very much of it. I like to be dressed and ready to go for the day as well even if I never leave the house. Especially when the weather gets nicer and I tend to sit outdoors more frequently. As for sleep, I have always struggled with it. But lately, I stopped having any shame in going to bed when I am tired…which is sometimes before 8:00 p.m. I like to wake up without an alarm which I can do if I go to bed early enough. In fact, I am generally awake on my own between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. which I love. It is my favorite time of day! Have a fabulous weekend, my friend.

Hi, Shelbee-You make some good points. Sleep is the one that gives me the fits-three or four really good nights and then one bummer where my mind just can’t stop whirring.

When you get my age, makeup can be a real challenge because of the wrinkles and lines-just don’t want to accent them-to bad there’s not a photoshop filter makeup! Thank you for liking my “Dancing in the Daffodils” insanity. Take care, Terri

Oh, and I also think that one of the best beauty routines is drinking enough water-although I have trouble with that one sometimes.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Terri, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on these tips. I have struggled with sleep issues my whole life and this peri menopausal time is making it so much worse. I swear there are days I feel like I could sleep forever! As for makeup with aging skin, I have had to give up liquid eyeliners because of the wrinkles! And water is so, so important for so many aspects of our health and appearance. I generally only drink water (and coffee, which is mostly water, right? LOL) but still I could stand to consume more of it as well. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

This cute dress is such a great color on you! Thank you for sharing your ideas for feeling your best, most confident self. Covid has scrambled our lives and routines so much. It’s a good time for a refresh, as we are slowly getting out and about more, and feeling a sense of balance and normlacy. Getting a good night’s sleep is so important to everything! Hormonal changes during our middle years causes havoc on so many of us ,so listening to our bodies and knowing when to rest is really big! Hope you have a good weekend!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Di, thanks so much for your kind compliment and for sharing your thoughts on self confidence. This past year has definitely changed me in so many ways and I find myself focused much more now on my health and wellness and living my very best life. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

I 100% agree! The days my confidence levels are low, I know it has to do with manily how well I treat myself. We tend to always put ourselves last and she’s just as important. I never even though of choosing the right makeup for your skin. Great point gf 😉

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Mel! Oh my gosh, the makeup game really does start to change as the wrinkles set in! I have also noticed a change in my complexion now that I am in these premenopausal years. It is so important to reevaluate all of these things every decade or so, I think! I hope you have the most wonderful weekend!

Your hair has gotten so long. I love it! Very pretty and cozy winter dress! Such a great color on you.

Women typically put themselves last due to the demands of life and family. And yet it is important that they carve out some time for themselves in order to maintain some measure of sanity and health. A good beauty routine is one way to do that. Through following fashion bloggers and doing some of my own fashion blogging, I’ve learned the joy to be had in choosing outfits (rather than just throwing on whatever gets the job done. My life is enriched this way.

    Great post!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my gosh, Michelle, I really love the way you stated this and your approach to personal fashion. Some days, I do wear whatever gets the job done, but I feel so much better when I actually put thought and effort to “creating” an outfit rather than just throwing on clothes. But there is always this strange little voice telling me that I am vain for wanting to look good. Where does that come from? Society, I suppose! I have to stop listening to society and its dumb rules with regard to my life!

      xoxo
      Shelbee

      • Michelle

Much of what society dictates is geared toward the lowest common denominator. Sure, there are some people – men and women both – who are extremely shallow and vain. But you, my friend, are the opposite of that. You are deep thinker and a kind person with a good sense of humor. A winning trifecta in my book. So flaunt it, baby!

Aw, Michelle, thank you so much! Gosh, I struggle so much with the bullshit inside my own mind! And this year of isolation certainly did not help there! I am going to flaunt it better and bolder from now on! Thank you for your encouragement and support, my friend.

  • Sheila (of Ephemera)

Apologies if you got a bazillion comments from me on the previous post – I wasn’t sure if it went through.

Love this beautiful blue dress on you, Michelle, and love your pigtails too! I’ve recently overhauled my skin-care regime to make sure I’m getting my anti-wrinkle cream, eye cream, night cream, etc. that I need as menopause seems to be attacking my skin texture. I’ve been dressing up for my mental health during the pandemic, so that’s been awesome, but a good and timely reminder about sleep hygiene is welcome (I have always slept poorly).

Have a wonderful weekend, and thanks so much for the link party!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Sheila, thanks so much, my friend! This shade of blue or teal or whatever you call it is one of my favorites. It is not a color though that I see often when shopping. Dressing for my mental health has always been a thing for me ever since I had an amazing therapist 20 years ago who told me to get dressed and put myself together every single day even if I was so depressed that I was going to spend the day in bed. And so I listened and eventually because of it I was able to pull myself out of one of the darkest periods of my life. Sleep has always been a struggle for me, too. And menopause is not helping that or my skin! Although a tablespoon a day of flaxseed oil really does benefit my skin along with some basic old Pond’s Cold Cream! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

What a cute tiered jumper dress! I have a couple sundresses like this but never seen one in this cosy fabric before, it’s a great idea for colder weather! 🙂

I’m not a makeup wearer – just used to wear it to the office – and the kids don’t let me get as much sleep as I’d like, ha! So I just use pretty clothes and accessories to give me a confidence boost when I need it! 🙂

Hope that you are having a good weekend 🙂 We enjoyed the summer-like weather yesterday at the playground 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Mica, thanks so much! I do love these sweatshirt fabric dresses for cooler weather. They feel more like cozy nightgowns than cute clothing! I am glad that you still have some warmer summer weather hanging on for you as you come into fall. It is still really cold here dipping down to freezing temperatures over night. And yeah, kids definitely have a way of interrupting our sleep, don’t they?! I only just got Archie out of my bed this winter! I hope you have a lovely weekend.

I love the quotes that really say it all. You are so right about establishing a routine to feel our best. After this past year, I need to get into one that gets me going earlier in the day!! Thanks, Shelbee, and happy weekend, my friend.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thanks so much! I have never struggled with getting going early in the day! My struggle is continuing with any sort of momentum after noon! That’s when I start to feel my first crash of the day. But usually by noon, I have been up and working for about 7 hours so I need to grant myself some grace instead of getting stressed that I don’t get much done after noon! I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend!

Such a cute outfit Shelbee!! Love the coziness of your sweatshirt dress and your adorable pigtails. You also picked so many great quotes! I feel like sometimes people think fashion and caring about style is shallow or superficial, but it really does make such a difference in your everyday confidence… It always makes me think of What Not to Wear and how truly life changing that makeover experience was for so many women! I don’t wear makeup except for photos, and I (almost) always try to pick a cute outfit. But the getting good rest tip is really the one I need to work on!! Thanks for sharing.

Grace, thank you so much! You know I have struggled with that whole vanity, shallow, and superficial stuff when I started my blog and sometimes I still get worried that I give that perception of myself. But it really isn’t about that at all, is it? Personal style is about feeling good in our bodies and in our clothing and about ourselves overall. I wrote a post 5 years ago about whether fashion blogging was about vanity or sanity…it’s called Vanity or Sanity? Haha. I should go read that post again to remind myself! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! And try to get some extra sleep!

Such a great post, Shelbee! Confidence is such a big part of if it, isn’t it? Not to mention the sleep factor. We just bought a new mattress topper and it’s one of those really thick comfy ones, like you get in the real posh hotels! I love going to bed at the moment lol. Although it’s probably too comfy because it’s so difficult to get out of in the morning lol!!

Suzy, thanks so much! Sleep is such a huge part of our health and wellness, isn’t it? When I used to work on Wall Street, I traveled frequently for work and I always loved sleeping in the posh hotel beds! It made me wonder why my bed was not as comfortable as hotel beds and so I started to buying posh high quality bedding and stuff. Best idea ever! I recently ordered a bamboo comforter and I am so excited to get it! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

Looking so very nice. Love how fun and funky you look.

Self-confidence is something that I really need to work on. It is funny, when I am alone or with people that I feel comfy I don’t think about it. But when I am around some people my self-confidence is shot to shit. It is weird. I guess it comes down to who I am with. The funny thing is that the people who supposedly are the closest to me are the ones who kill my self-confidence.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Patrick! Oh my gosh, I am the same way. I have confidence for days around the people I know well and feel comfortable with. Put me in a room with strangers and I want to run and hide and all of my confidence seems to disappear. I probably come off as unapproachable in crowds because my shyness does take over immediately. So I have a tendency to sit and people watch when I find myself in awkward social situations. But that probably just makes me look even weirder! Haha. Oh well. It is who we are, my friend. And probably why we have such ease sharing these things with each other! May the socially uncomfortable continue to unite with one another! LOL

I’ve been in an almost two-year-long style slump that started when I was trying to prove myself at my last job by “dressing like a French woman” (it was a French company). Now that I’ve left, I’m just dressing like me, and I already feel SO much better! This is all very sound advice 😉

Aw, Cheryl, I never would have guessed that you were in a style slump at all, especially not for two years. You always look so fabulous in your Cheryl-style which definitely has a bit of French minimalism to it. I was expecting a detailed, multi-step list but your three basics were perfect. Getting adequate sleep and being sufficiently rested is so important. I’ve gotten so used to it in the past year that I really notice in myself the next day if I didn’t get enough sleep the night before.

    Rena
    http://www.finewhateverblog.com

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Rena! Adequate sleep and hydration make such a huge difference in how I feel, too. I have definitely gotten very used to my schedule and getting proper sleep during the past year. I also notice it if I am not getting enough of either. I just start feeling kind of all around horrible. That’s when I know I need to get back to healthier lifestyle habits. I am a little nervous about my kids getting back to 5 days of school per week…I don’t how well I will manage with the whole morning routine 5 times a week! I am so used to lazy mornings that have no time lines! Haha.
