I am back from my blogging break and channeling some Blossom vibes with an outfit that I shot back on a really cool day in mid-June. It seemed like the perfect occasion to finally share this outfit as we start looking forward to the transitional fall weather and back to school styles. Although I imagine back to school styles are probably going to look a lot like loungewear this school year since many children and college students will be receiving remote education rather than learning in physical classrooms.

Another reason to share this outfit is that I haven’t taken any outfit photos since July 20. I have gotten dressed but mostly in leggings and tee shirts while I tackled my mess of hoarded clothing. Speaking of that, I have added over 200 new listings on Poshmark with probably 400 more items to go! It is a tedious process. I have been steaming every garment before putting them on the mannequin and taking photographs. The downside is I am exhausted and it feels like I will never reach the end. The upside is that I have done about 5,000 squats in front of the steamer so I may have buns of steel by the time I finish this project.

But back to the outfit. Do you remember the early 90’s sitcom Blossom starring Mayim Bialik? I freaking loved that show, but even more so, I loved Blossom’s style. She expressed herself through her eclectic sartorial choices and I very much related to that quality about the character. Being just a few years older than Blossom when this show was on the air, I felt a special sort of quirky misfit bond with the title character.

While I didn’t style this outfit with her in mind, it most definitely reminded me of Blossom once I had it all put together. Maybe it’s the hat. Or the floral embroidery on the sleeves. Or the combination of the shorts and tights and a dress worn not as a dress. Or possibly just the whole concoction in its entirety is what makes it so very Blossom-esque.

Speaking of Mayim Bialik, I also adore her character Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory. I guess I really just have a girl crush on Mayim. And that’s okay. Because she is totally girl crush worthy.

I am going to cut this post short because I still have a million things to do before heading out for a mini family vacation in the Finger Lakes this weekend. I am super excited about that and will share more with you next week!

Until then, do let me know what are your favorite sitcoms from childhood? Did the styles of your favorite characters inspire you?

Thanks, Kathrine! Ooh, I love Friends, too. I always loved Phoebe’s crazy hairstyles! Seinfeld was great as well way back then, but now I don’t really enjoy it. I do still enjoy Friends reruns though. Have a great week!

I’m glad you made some significant progress on your closet and getting things on Poshmark! I absolutely love your jacket! Your outfit does have a Blossom vibe to it! Such a fun look!

Hey cutie Blossom! This outfit has everything I love- jean shorts, tights, cute hat and embroidery!! I started a Poshmark too (and have exactly…one listing lol!!- I wanna do this too but need some direction…please!) Have a great week my friend xx

Welcome back and you were missed. Looking so very cute and chic there. You are such a fashion icon

For my district, today is the first day of our trainings and such for the new school year and I am at home. Grrr.. I need to be at work. I actually enjoy going to work because I have a whole routine there and I can focus better.

Anyway, as a kid, I loved Barney Miller and Night Court. You can’t beat those two.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful Tuesday. Again, Looking Good.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Patrick, thanks so much! So are you totally remote for the beginning of the school year again? We don’t even start school here until after Labor Day so we still have almost a month. Hopefully things will look a little better by then. Right now our district plan is that kids will attend in person only 2 days a week with 3 days of remote learning. There is also the option of completely homeschooling which I cannot do. My kids need the structure of being at school. So do I! And I loved Night Court! I used to also watch Barney Miller with grandmother! It was one of her favorite shows.

I liked her in Big Bang Theory too. She was a fun character.
Love the floral embroidery on your adorable jacket and I do love the tights with your jean shorts. I should try that this year. Yes, my niece is getting remote education and homeschooling. I dont think its safe right now for in person schooling.
The red top looks great with this look.
Have a great week and stay safe!

Jess, thanks so much! I love the combination of tights with shorts! I would love to see how you style it. I know lots of people who have opted for homeschooling this year. I am sending my kids back to school because the little one really, really needs the structure. We have noticed a steep increase in his behavior issues since this quarantine began. But our school district will only have the kids attend in person 2 days a week with 3 days a week of remote learning. We also don’t start school until after Labor Day which is super late this year, too. So we still have almost a month to see what everything looks like. I hope you are having a great week!

Sounds like a lot of work got done! Don’t give up but takes some breaks. You need to take some days off from sorting, photographing here and there or you will burn out. Love this quirky outfit. I know of the show but didn’t watch it growing up. In France and my parents would go through periods of not having tv in the house. I watched a lot more sitcoms when I moved out on my own and as an adult.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you, Mireille! I have made a ton of progress on this clean out project. But there is still so much more to go. But at least I got my momentum going and it is easier now to step back and take breaks and get back to blogging and stuff, too! We had friends when we were young who didn’t have television at home either. I remember they loved to come to our house to watch stuff!

Thanks so much, Katie! I think it was the hat that added the final Blossom touch to the outfit! Remember all the fun hats she would wear? I have always loved hats! And you are welcome for the feature! It is always my pleasure. Have a wonderful day!

First I can’t even image tights right now. EVERY day is over 100 degrees (but I’m not complaining).
Second, I may need to start selling on Poshmark too. Especially if I get a good rear workout from it…haha.

Shelbee, congrats on getting so many Poshmark listings (and steamer squats) done! I love selling things on that app, but OMG the photos and listings take so much longer than you think! I learned a hack from another seller: instead of listing out the measurements and fabric contents for each item, take photos with a measuring tape across it, and one of the care tag as well. It saves a little time, and every bit helps!
    Cheryl Shops | http://www.cherylshops.net

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Cheryl, thanks so much! I used to list all of those details in the item description, but not anymore! I take pictures of everything. Every angle, every tag. And if the brand is a well known brand, I don’t put measurements at all. I feel like most people know their size at places like Old Navy and Gap and Loft. If it is an obscure brand or one that the sizing is super weird, then I will put the measurements. Otherwise, I only add them if someone specifically asks for them. After this giant clean out and listing it all, I have found lots of little tricks for saving time and making it a little bit easier! It is great that you can list from a computer now, too. It used to be that you could only post on Poshmark from a mobile device and that was absolutely horrendously tedious!

  • Midlife and Beyond

Love this outfit on you Shelbee. So stylish, the embroidery detail on the sleeves is gorgeous. It sounds like a lot of work selling on-line, I’m going to wait until the weather is cooler as I may get a little flustered in this heat! Have a great vacation – enjoy.
    Alison xx

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Alison, thanks so much! Yeah, I definitely advise doing this type of clean out in cooler weather. I have been trying on every single item first to make sure that I want to part with it. The other day, I tried on about 50 pairs of jeans and pants and that would be miserable to do in the heat! I hope your week is going well!

Girl, you so crack me up!! Buns of steel, indeed, after 200 clothing postings and related squatting!!!! Wow!! That’s so amazing! I’m impressed with your perseverance. You channel Blossom perfectly in your outfit! I love to see your picks each week, too. Lots of inspiration from you and all these amazing ladies!

    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thank you so much! I have been pretty motivated with this project! I only have a small pile of clothing left to steam and photograph and then I have completed the basement portion of this clean out project! Up next are my 8 giant bins of winter sweaters and then I can start tackling the mountains in my closet room! I hope your week is going well, my friend!

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

Ahh! I love how this does look like Blossom! So cute! Your legs look great in those tights and I love the darker colors for fall in this look. Wow, I bet you are going to make a ton on Poshmark for all the work you’re doing and listing these items!

    Carrie
    curlycraftymom.com

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Carrie, thanks so much! I do love my tights and we are getting nearer and nearer to tights season! Although, I am feeling like this fall might be all about the jeans and cozy sweaters for me! I do hope I can make some cash selling these clothes. Right now considering the amount of time spent steaming, photographing, and listing items compared to what I have sold so far, I am averaging about 3 cents per hour of work! Hahaha. But the process itself is so cathartic, so I can’t really complain. I hope your week is going well!

  • Maureen

Welcome back and I hope you enjoyed your break. I love Blossom and your outfit! Very cute and the details are perfection together. I know what you mean about how tedious things are to sell. You want to make sure everything is accurate and writing a description may seem easy but just like IG captions, it takes some brain power! I hope your week is off to a great start and happy Tuesday!

    Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Maureen, thanks so much! I stopped putting super detailed descriptions and just add so many photos from every angle, every tag, etc. I don’t even put clothing measurements any more unless it is a very obscure brand with weird sizing (or if someone asks specifically for measurements). My week is off to a great start and I am ready for our weekend getaway! I hope you are well, my friend.

That is a super cute outfit! I love everything about it! I don’t have much navy in wardrobe. I’m very picky about navy; some shades have too much gray. But your pieces are that lovely true blue navy. (I hope that makes sense.)

As to favorite sitcoms, when I was about 6 or 7, I loved watching “I Dream of Jeannie.” I thought Barbara Eden was so pretty and loved her genie outfit. LOL!

You’re making great progress on your Poshmark project! Have fun this weekend!

Michelle, thanks so much! I have a lot of navy in my wardrobe because I always need it for my Penn State football posts! Actually, I have always liked navy very much. It is a nice neutral when I want dark colors but want to get out of my regular all black clothing. I loved I Dream of Jeannie, too! She was so pretty and her genie outfit was amazing!

And did you also sell a lot? I hope so! I can remember Blossom but wasn’t such a big fan. I didn’t watch that much tv as I was working in a bar/restaurant and worked evenings and nights. I did love Family Ties though! Have a good mini vacation!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Nancy! I have sold a few pieces so far, but I also haven’t had much time to engage with other users on Poshmark and I think that is kind of important to make sales! But first I have to get the rest of the things piled on my dining room table listed! Family Ties was a fantastic show from the 80’s!

Cute quirky look Shelbee! I’ve never heard of Blossom, perhaps it never reached these shores. With Prime and Netflix we see everything now! Great to see you as always in #WowOnWednesday.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Gail! I do love to add a bit of quirkiness to my style. I don’t know if Blossom was really a huge hit, so it may not have made its way to you, but she had some pretty fun styles for a teenager!
