At the Cornerstone Eatery & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #89

There is a new eatery in town and it is the most splendid addition to downtown Watertown with its menu of light, healthy, fresh lunch fare, its warm and welcoming ambience, and the ever so charming staff who greet every patron with a smile and an entire day’s worth of enthusiasm.

The aptly christened Cornerstone Eatery opened its doors this summer on the corner of Franklin Street and Public Square where the humdrum ole Subway was once located. I have driven through Public Square about a million times and never was I once tempted to go grab lunch from that Subway. In the wake of its recent closing, some brilliant foodies decided to take action and created this little nook of deliciousness in the very heart of downtown. And isn’t there an old saying that goes, “The kitchen is the heart of the home”? Well, I do believe that the Cornerstone Eatery is well on its way to becoming the heart of downtown Watertown.

It is quaint and filled with natural sunlight beaming through the window lined front wall that overlooks Public Square. When you step inside during the lunch rush, you are met with the buzzing of jubilant diners as they engage in friendly conversation over exquisite lunch creations. Every salad, soup, and sandwich is crafted from the freshest ingredients…you can almost feel your insides dancing with joy at the level of healthiness that you are consuming.

The daily soups are quite literally to die for…worth every penny paid for the heavenly experience that your palette will undergo…you will find yourself wanting to lick the bowl. I have eaten at the Cornerstone three times already and have tried multiple daily soups.  Um…the Crab Bisque…it really might be better than sex.

The Falafel Salad is out of this world with its compelling combination of chickpea fritters over a bed of the freshest romain topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted red peppers, and a generous mound of quinoa prepared to perfection. Served with a feta vinaigrette, this salad takes you on a culinary tour that merges Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine into one extraordinarily gratifying dish.

The Shrimp Po Boy is crafted on a grilled baguette, layered with fresh baby greens and tomato which is delicately coated in the most scrumptious remoulade I have ever tasted. Then it is topped with five perfectly grilled and seasoned blackened shrimp and the sweetest pickled red onion for an impeccable contrast that will leave your belly full but your mouth wanting more.

If the ethnic ingredients that appear so abundantly on the Cornerstone menu seem a bit intimidating to the tentative eater, the chicken salad wrap is an absolute must try. My husband is also a fan of the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Beef Tenderloin Po Boy. While I was afraid I would lose a finger if I attempted to taste any of his sandwiches, I did manage to pilfer a few bites of the homemade coleslaw from him. I don’t even like coleslaw…and the Cornerstone coleslaw is good, y’all. Like really, really good.

If you are local to the Watertown, New York area or just passing through, I highly recommend you make a stop for lunch at the Cornerstone Eatery. You will leave this dining establishment not just with a completely satisfied appetite, but with an extra bounce in your step just from all the happiness that fills the walls of this little corner lunch stop.
