I am continuing with my yoga affirmations, this time focusing on the Heart Chakra and Affirmations for Love and Compassion. I have previously shared Affirmations for Confidence and Self Esteem (the Solar Plexus Chakra) and Affirmations for Creativity and Sensuality (the Sacral Chakra).

I have been following along with Yoga with Kassandra on Youtube and really focusing on her chakra and shadow work. Many of her yin yoga practices also incorporate some affirmation work as well which I may share at a later time after I finish all seven chakras. I have not been sharing these in any particular order as I turn to these practices with a focus on whatever area I feel is in need of some attention in that moment.

I am absolutely a novice when it comes to chakras and understanding all there is to understand about proper alignment and energy balance. But I am starting to at least remember all 7 chakras, where they are located and what they control, and which colors are associated with each.

If you are completely unfamiliar with chakras, they are the energy centers in the body that are situated from the base of your spine through the top of your head. The seven chakras beginning from the base of your spine working upwards are the Root Chakra, the Solar Plexus Chakra, the Sacral Chakra, the Heart Chakra, the Throat Chakra, the Third Eye Chakra, and the Crown Chakra which is situated directly at the crown of your head. You can read more details about the chakras in Chakra Chart Meanings. The following graphic is from that article.

Now let’s examine the Heart Chakra since the video I followed for this practice and these affirmations is Heart Chakra Yin Yoga for Love & Compassion with Affirmations.

The Heart Chakra is the fourth chakra located at the center of the spine directly behind the heart. It is associated with the color green and serves as the center for self love and love for others as well as compassion, empathy, and forgiveness. The heart chakra is the source of unconditional love and profound truths that cannot be expressed with mere words. Air is the guiding element of this chakra (as well as the element that controls my Gemini sign…please stop by on Monday to see how the women of the Fab 40s have styled outfits inspired by the element of Air).

Air, just like love, is all around us and within us and has the ability to disperse and integrate our spiritual understanding of love, compassion, and our connection to everything around us. When our heart center is open and balanced, we are able to embody and embrace love in a free flowing and uninhibited way.

The heart chakra is directly related to and effects our heart, lungs, chest, arms, and hands. When this chakra is blocked, it can manifest in physical symptoms like poor circulation, blood pressure issues, heart and lung conditions, and circulatory problems. A blocked chakra can also negatively impact our mental and emotional health. When the heart chakra is blocked, you may experience feelings of loneliness or jealousy, have a fear of intimacy, and have difficulty trusting others.

But when the heart chakra is properly balanced and aligned, you will feel surrounded by abundant love and compassion. You will find joy all around you and you will feel a strong, healthy connection to the outside world. An open heart chakra allows us to experience love and life with ease as we seek out new experiences and relationships to further enrich our connections in the world. It helps us give love more freely as well as direct love inwardly toward ourselves.

And now the affirmations from Kassandra’s Heart Chakra practice. Remember…as you are reading through the affirmations, you are not trying to convince yourself of their truth, you only want to take notice of your reactions to each statement. If you have a reaction to one or a few that is more powerful than the others, it may be worth investigating why. If you find yourself nodding happily in agreement with an affirmation that means that you are in a healthy balanced state in that area.

For these six affirmations, I had mostly positive, head nodding in agreement reactions. But I also questioned myself on some of them as well. Let me go through each one since there are only six.

I am worthy of love and acceptance. I always struggle with the word worthy as it represents entitlement to me (and I shun entitlement). But once I can drop that weird linguistic hang up, I absolutely believe that we are all worthy of love and acceptance including myself.

I feel compassion and empathy for all beings. Yes, I absolutely do. I really do have the ability to see all situations from many different perspectives. This allows me to have compassion and empathy for people who maybe on the surface do not appear to deserve compassion and empathy. We have to view each person as the whole of their own experiences and that alone can give us so much more insight into others that will open us up to compassionate and empathic feelings.

I am willing to forgive and be forgiven. I have never had much issue in the area of forgiveness. I forgive quite easily and make my decisions on a case by case basis of what a relationship will look like after forgiveness is given. However, I never thought about my willingness to be forgiven. I suppose I am willing to be forgiven, but I also don’t ever put too much weight on it as I feel like it depends on the other person’s willingness to forgive.

I listen to my heart and let it guide me. I mean, I mostly listen to the Universe and let it guide me, but I suppose my heart is strongly connected to the Universe so this affirmation I merely nodded in agreement.

I feel a deep connection to others. This one was a bit weird for me. I definitely feel strongly connected to the people I am connected with…probably stronger than most. But I also struggle with feeling connected to the world at large. Maybe the world is too big and scary for me still and I struggle to feel connected with big and scary things. But I also feel my energy is strong and so maybe I am more connected on that level than I even realize. This one is definitely worth further investigation. I aslo have a tendency to spend a lot of time inside my own head and that alone can cause feelings of disconnect from the outside world.

My heart is resilient and capable of healing. This was easy and I nodded dramatically in agreement. I have learned through nearly half a century’s worth of life experiences that my heart is absolutely resilient and wonderfully capable of healing. It allows me to be a little more fearless when beginning new relationships. I might get hurt, but I will definitely heal. I know this because it has happened over and over and over again and it will continue to happen for as long as we live. But knowing our capabilities for healing is the best safety net when embarking on new relationships. And new relationships are the very things that keep us evolving in human compassion and understanding.

Thanks, Nancy! The heart chakra is a fascinating one! And while I felt like my heart chakra is pretty well aligned, I do have some of the physical manifestations of a blocked heart chakra like poor circulation and blood pressure issues. So I guess I will continue doing the chakra work! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

This is all very interesting and the affirmation for love and compassion such an important part of life. I won’t apologize for linking some older posts today as I feel that there is an intrinsic link between science and spirituality even though I couldn’t even begin to define the philosophy of Yoga! I hadn’t realized that the colors of the Chakras are the same as the Rainbow, albeit backwards, something I must take a look at to see what links I can find.

Pamela, thanks so much! And absolutely never apologize for adding whatever posts you’d like to my link parties! You can add as many as you’d like regardless of how old they are! I like to dig back into the archives for old articles as well especially when they are relevant to a topic someone else shared. I look forward to reading your thoughts about the connection between spirituality and science as I believe the same to be true. Our entire universe is a perfectly connected and harmonious system that is totally based in science. We are all energy. It is all energy all around us. And we can maneuver and manipulate bits of the energy field around us through our spirituality. Or something like that (I may not have had enough coffee yet this morning to get too deep into it!) I only recently realized that little rainbow connection with the chakras, too! It makes it way easier to remember the chakra colors. I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

This is my chakra Shelbee! I agreed with all of these affirmations and I find it interesting that this area is focused around air and the lungs, hands, etc. No wonder I am a flutist! 🙂 I am going to take these affirmations with me to my flute masterclass next week for support. Thank you for sharing and thanks for the link up!

Aw, Kathrine, thanks so much! I am so happy that these affirmations were so impactful for you! I just did an air element yoga session yesterday that was really cool, too. It didn’t have affirmations but was all about opening the heart and feeling light and airy. Lots of balancing work that was a kind of challenging but I did experience some higher level airiness for a few seconds here and there throughout the practice. I wish you much success with your flute masterclass next week! Have a fabulous weekend!

Thanks so much, Jill! I am really finding so much benefit from this chakra work so I am happy to share! If it can help to improve just one person’s life, then I feel like I am doing the job I set out to do with this little blog of mine. And you are quite welcome for the feature! It’s always nice to hear that I have added a little cheer to someone else’s day. Happy weekend, my friend!

I just saved all of these affirmations!! My heart chakra is currently blocked so I need to work on clearing it. I should really check out Kassandra. Lately, instead of listening to music, I’ve been listening to mhz for different chakras on either youtube or spotify.

Oh, I am glad that you found these affirmations meaningful, Jennifer. I felt like my heart chakra was pretty balanced except I do have some of the physical manifestations of a blocked heart chakra like poor circulation. So I guess I need to do some more work in this area as well. Keep me posted on how you are doing with this one! Happy weekend, my friend!

Shelbee, first of all, I love this oufit, and enjoyed your trip serene wooded setting. The multi colored tie dyed pants are fabulous on you-you are the queen of boho chic! Also, thanks so much for mentioning me and my blog in your favorites! I have been doing energy and chakra work for years, and find it very healing and centering, for me. The stresses of everyday life can easily pull a person out of balance, and yoga and chakra balancing work can help in staying centered. I applaud you on your journey and digging deep into self-realization! Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Di, thank you so much for this very validating comment! I am finding so much benefit from my yoga practices and figured it was time to get to some chakra work even though I am a complete novice in this area. It really has been so helpful in my self realization process as well. I am enjoying sharing the process on my blog because if it helps me, it can certainly help someone else. So share I must! It was my pleasure to feature your post this week! Anything I can do to perk up someone else’s day even in the tiniest way makes me feel like I have fulfilled my mission of uplifting others. I hope you have an amazing weekend, my friend.

There is alot of info here! Great post, I know very little about chakras, so thank you for sharing! I can relate to this one more so, as I say yes to most of these as well. Love your outfit, the pants and the olive hat. Is this area close to your house, love the woods behind you.
    Have a great weekend!

Thanks so much, Jess! I am still learning about chakras and how to keep them aligned properly myself. But I figure it can’t help to share my learning process as I am finding so much benefit to these affirmation practices. I am glad that you are also finding some benefit from these posts. These photos were taken in Thompson Park which is the beautiful park located less than a mile from my house. I take lots of my photos in this area as it is a gorgeous park! Both you and Lucy chose this pic to share today! I get excited when other bloggers meet up too so I am not surprised everyone really liked that we were able to do that. For all of the weekend for her to be out of town! I am glad we managed to still see each other. My family probably thought I was crazy but that is ok!

I definitely need to work on the forgiveness one… and I immediately thought ” i feel deep connection to SOME others.” I too was so excited to see that Mireille and Jodi got to meet in real life. It always makes me smile when I see blogging buddies meeting up in real life.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Joanne, thanks so much for sharing your reactions to some of these affirmations. Yes, that deep connection to SOME others is a reality for me, too, but then I tend to feel deeply disconnected from most of the world. I think I need a blogger meet up to feel some connection! Ha. That would be fun! Have a lovely weekend, my friend.

Thanks so much, Shauna! I am so glad that you enjoyed this post. I started really getting into yoga in January and it has seriously improved my life in so many ways that I cannot imagine not doing yoga. The chakra work really is very fascinating and I am enjoying the learning process very much. Do keep me posted if you start getting into more chakra work as well. I would love to hear about your experience with it. Happy weekend!

So very beautiful. Something that I needed. I think I will be looking more into this. I am so loving this. Thank you so much.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have are having a wonderful weekend.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Patrick, thanks so much! These yoga practices have really been so beneficial for me in so many ways. I highly recommend giving it a try! I will be honest, I am not the best at the yoga poses and made the mistake of glancing in the mirror during yoga one day. I was appalled at how ridiculous I look! Haha. But I keep it all confined to my bedroom where no one can see me and then I can really allow myself to sink into the practices without any insecurities. So I say, pick a yoga video, throw a blanket down on the floor for some padding and get right to it! I love that yoga is a full mind and body exercise that can be done in my home without having to pay any gym membership costs. And I can do it whenever the mood strikes me! Happy weekend, my friend! We are just about to head out to Niagara Falls for the day!

OMG how I LOVE this post, Shelbee! I remember studying the Chakras during my yoga teacher training, but most of what I learnt went in one ear and out the other within a few weeks lol! I’m still blaming hormones, even though it was five years ago! However, I never forgot the true meaning of all them all and how important it is to keep the chakras in line.
I’m a big fan of Yoga with Kassandra too. I often do her routines when I want to follow along with another teacher. Her yin practices are particularly good, aren’t they?
As for your pics, you certainly look very ‘yogi’ lol. I love the entire outfit. Those trousers are stunning, and I want to copy your layered top look! I love the cheeky peaks of lace beneath your tank top!
    I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend.
    Big hugs
    Suzy xx

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Suzy, thank you so very much for this wonderful comment! I do love Kassandra’s yin practices. Although I will admit I was a little intimidated by yin yoga when I first began. But now I love it for those days when stretching is more important than strengthening (which seems to be most days!). Actually, I am growing very fond of Kassandra’s vin to yin practices. I get the best of both in one hour! Although some days I may do a yin practice early in the day and a vinyasa flow later on. It all depends. I use yoga where and when and how I need it and it’s really working for me!

Now my outfit…the little lace peeking out is one of my bralettes. I am wearing a bra with my bralette in these photos because the bralette doesn’t have enough support for me. However, I just ordered a few 2 sizes down so they are really tight and I am so excited that I can wear them without a bra underneath. I just got a few really brightly colored ones that I am loving.

We are at Niagara Falls this weekend, heading out from our hotel shortly to go see the falls. I am very excited as my husband and kids have never seen them before and I can’t wait to watch them experience it. It is such an amazing place!

I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

You already know, I adore this outfit!

I had the same reaction to “feeling deeply connected to others” that you did. Like you, I feel deeply connected to the peeps with whom I have a relationship. I get the spiritual idea behind this one, but I don’t think it’s wrong for me to set boundaries and keep negative people / philosophies from taking up space in my head and my heart. On the flip side, I do think it’s important to have some deep connections, and my introverted self is lucky to have my share.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Michelle! Of course I knew you would love this outfit! I can feel deeply connected to people upon a first meeting if they have that kind of energy that makes me feel connected but I also have grown quite adept at setting and maintaining boundaries when necessary. I do have the ability to walk away from people regardless of the connection if they violate a boundary. Like…walk away forever without looking back or having any remorse at all. I suppose that’s part of why I question my strong connection to others. When I feel the need to disconnect from a toxic person, for example, it is quick and painless from my end but maybe not so much for the other person. I can lack empathy in situations when self preservation takes over. But yes, we do need human connections to survive in this world!

      xoxo
      Shelbee

      • Michelle

I’ll admit, if we had a good relationship and they become toxic, I struggle with walking away. But I am usually pretty good at spotting them before we become close. Rarely, one slips through though.

  • Lisa notes

Such beautiful affirmations! I have a set few that I recite to myself daily. I change them up as needed; some are needed a LONG time. 🙂 Thanks for sharing these. They are good for all of us.

  • Sheila (of Ephemera)

I also found myself nodding along with these affirmations, Shelbee – I guess my heart is in the right place! I’m a very empathetic person, but I also struggle with general “love of people” – I love the people in my life, but at a point, they become “other people” and I’m not as tolerant or patient. Must be all the years I worked in retail – I’m very jaded when it comes to people in general.

I love your fun outfit – you look joyful and happy, my dear friend.

Thank you so much for the link-party – I’ve got loads of outfits to share!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Sheila, thanks so much for this lovely comment. Yes, that general love of people is difficult to maintain…especially if I start reading or watching the news! Ugh, then I just get totally disheartened by people. But I do try to go out into the world with love and kindness leading me. The world definitely has the ability to jade us, especially those of us who are empathetic and feel a bit more deeply than others. But we must keep our lights shining bright and continue to inject positive energy into the world! I am looking forward to reading your outfit posts!
