Winter Style with Ada & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #53

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful and safe holiday season! I am ready to get this year started in the most energized and empowering way…and I have so many ideas flooding out of me for 2018. Now I just need to get myself organized and take it one step at a time. First on my agenda though is to get a planner!

But this post is not about my big, disorganized plans! That topic is for another day perhaps. Instead, let’s get to some styling business to kick off the new year. Of course, if you follow my blog, then you know Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood. She is one my very dearest blogging friends and I have collaborated with her many times this past year. In fact, I joined her as co-host for her last Thursday Moda Link Up of 2017…you can see our posts here and here. So I thought it would be perfectly fitting to start the new year with Ada as my co-host for the very first #SpreadTheKindness Link Up of 2018.

*This is a sponsored post.  This scarf was provided to me for purposes of this post.  As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

*Scarf: Outdoor Checked Pattern Artificial Wool Fringed Shawl Scarf c/o Rosegal. (Shop all Rosegal blanket scarves.)

If you happen to not be familiar with Ada, then please acquaint yourself with this fabulous woman!  She is one of the most dedicated, hard-working bloggers I know.  She is always willing to organize some amazing collaboration with blogger friends and she creates some of the best themes I have seen in the blogosphere!  She is attentive and kind and always so supportive.  I don’t really know how she does it all, to be honest, working a full-time non-blogging job and raising her gorgeous little girl, Vivian, who is clearly a fashionista in the making, but she shines through as fabulous as ever in every single blog post!

And here is a bit more about Ada in her own words…

“Hello, I am Ada from Michigan and I blog at Elegance and Mommyhood – a blog I have had for almost 6 years. I have been a mom since January 2013 and since then I have shown a lot of Mommy+Mini looks on my blog. After all my little girl puts a smile on everyone’s face. My style is trendy mixed with classic, colorful but elegant, cozy+comfortable but always with a touch of fancy. I love prints and today on my post I am styling a beautiful, ruffled floral blouse. I’d love it if you stop by and follow me via InstagramBloglovin and Pinterest. I also have my own style linkup on Thursdays, and for the last linkup of 2017 Shelbee was actually my co-host, so welcome by the blog and join me every Thursday. I want to thank my friend Shelbee – whom I have collaborated with a lot in 2017 – for letting me be her very first co-host of her first linkup of 2018! I want to wish everyone a Healthy and Happy New Year 2018!!”

After all the hectic chaos of the holidays, Ada and I decided not to feature a theme of any sort for this collaboration. I think we are both creatively exhausted at this point. So we each put together our own posts without any preconceived style ideas and are bringing to you some Winter Style inspiration, the Shelbee and Ada way!

Since I live in a very cold climate, oversized warm and cozy scarves are a necessity to get me through the long winter months. These past few weeks, the temperatures in northern New York have been plunging into the negative 20’s and I am cold.  Like…really freaking cold…to put it mildly. So I wanted to feature the newest addition to my blanket scarf collection: this deep green and blue fringed scarf from Rosegal which I paired with a navy shift dress, wool hat, and these fabulous forest green over the knee boots from Shoe Dazzle.

*Boots: Jacie Heeled Boot in Forest Green from Shoe Dazzle (Available in 3 colors).

I am a huge fan of blanket scarves. In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen a blanket scarf that I haven’t loved. So I did a little stalking around Ada’s blog and found some of my favorites from her collection! Ada knows what she’s doing with a blanket scarf, that’s for sure. But then, she also hails from a very cold climate where blanket scarves are necessary for winter survival!

And now your favorite posts from last week’s link up!

Suzanne of Crazy Blonde Life looks amazing in this plum cold shoulder top and metallic booties in her post Happy Holidays from Crazy Blonde Life! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity this past year to get acquainted with Suzanne. I adore her style and her positive energy is contagious!

And my dear friend, Rena of Fine Whatever shared her post Greatest Hits Of 2017: Reclaim-Recycle-Reuse . Always a numbers girl, she has broken down so many fun statistics for her year in review. I can hardly believe it has been over a year since I first met Rena in real life and what a wonderful friend she has become since that first meet up!

Sending a giant heartfelt thank you to my dear friend, Ada, for all of your support and encouragement throughout this past year. I look forward to many more fun collaborations with you and I am excited to see where the next year takes us both.

  2. I love the colors you are wearing!
Ada is always so stylish and elegant and very kind! I would love to see her on my Styled by….series! Wink wink!

  3. Happy New Year! You’re looking lovely, as always. The scarf is pretty, I love the blue and green together. Stay warm!

  4. Shelbee, thanks for the joy you share here. Trusting that your new year is off to a great start!

  5. Hi Shelbee! Happy New Year! Thank you so much for featuring my post and picture on the blog today! I was surprised when I scrolled down and saw it! I love your scarf and those boots are amazing! It’s so cold here in North Carolina (8 degrees as we speak). I know that might not seem so cold to you but we’re just not used to those temperatures here and I’ve been pulling out everything I own and layering to keep warm! I hope you have a great day and thanks so much for the linkup!

    • Suzanne, thanks so much for stopping by! It was my pleasure featuring you. I am always so inspired by your impeccable style! And even though it is frigidly cold where I live, 8 degrees is still really, really cold! My kids have a delay for school today because it is -20 something with the wind chill…and I am so ready for them to go back to school already! Stay warm, my friend! I know I will be trying to!

  6. Those are some pretty fabulous boots my friend! And you’re a better woman than me…the last time I shot an outfit was Christmas Eve. Once we were invaded by polar vortex temperatures, I was like, um…no. You know it’s cold when you see a day in the forecast that says 25 degrees and you’re excited about it…lol!

    • Thanks so much! So funny, I was just commenting on your post and popped over and saw your comment here! I actually shot these photos the week before Christmas and I have no more outfit photos in store! We woke up to -20’s this morning with no end in sight to this freezing cold hell! So I am not sure what I am going to do for pictures…maybe trying an indoor location tomorrow! Stay warm, my friend!

  7. I love your look today! That coat and scarf are fabulous! I also love Ada! She is so sweet and I especially love her mother daughter pictures!

  8. I sure do love seeing you and Ada together! Two women I admire and respect, both fabulous! It’s actually cold this week here in Orlando and I am super excited to break out my blanket scarf – NEVER happens here so I am PUMPED!!!

    • Thanks so much, Kellyann! I love teaming up with Ada, too. It is always so much and often pushes me to go places stylistically that I wouldn’t normally. As cold as I am right now, I despise the heat…so I am going to tell you to go right ahead and enjoy your colder weather and rock out that blanket scarf!

  9. You are looking especially stylish in your navy coat and plaid scarf, my dear. Love it! Happy New Year, doll. Xo Jonet

    • Thank you so much, Jonet! This is my challenge all winter long…how to look stylish and stay warm in the frozen tundra that is upstate NY! Wishing you a very happy and healthy New Year.

  10. Scarves are a fabulous accessory—that and layers are my go-to pieces this winter!!!
    Happy 2018!

    • Layers are my life, Jodie! Although I was just getting really aggravated by my coat the other day. Why do I live in a place where I need 6 layers to keep warm? Then I can’t move…like that kid in A Christmas Story! Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!

  11. Two faces I love to see! Shelbee, you look adorable in that hat and scarf. Of course the boots are fabulous and I love the way you color coordinated everything. It’s cold for Georgia – 12 degrees – so I find myself reaching for beanies, oh yes blanket scarves, corduroy or warm leggings. More layering. lol I just like to be cozy!

    • Chrissy, thanks so much! The color of these boots really caught my attention so I had to have them! I was really happy with how well they paired with this scarf. And don’t get me wrong here, 12 degrees is really freaking cold…but it has been like a frozen tundra here for weeks to the point that 12 degrees is starting to feel warm! Literally, if the temperatures break 0 and then actually climb to double digits, I am all like, “Hey, I am not freezing from the inside out right now!” Bust out those blanket scarves and beanies and stay warm, my friend!

  12. That outfit looks so cute. I love the plaid scarf.

    • Thanks so much, Courtney! I am a huge fan of plaid and I love blue and green together… so it was obvious that I had to have this scarf! Happy New Year to you, my friend!

  13. Jaymie Ashcraft

    Happy New Year!!

  14. First, I send you a giant, heartfelt thank you right back. I am home today with a cold, quite sick actually, so reading ALL of these sweet, amazing words… my spirits are lifted and truly my heart is happy! They were also needed after an awful text message I just received from a co-worker. But no need to start a new year with a negative Nancy. Thank you so very much for the sweet words and I know you meant every one. Also, the collage of some of my blanket scarves was a nice little surprise.

I love your outfit so much and it is something I would WEAR. You paid attention to every detail down to those amazing deep hunter green OTK boots and oh my – negative 20s is super super cold. I feel like I am living in Alaska these days. I love how your dark green and navy outfit showcases both colors wonderfully. You are a master of layering when it comes for dressing outside in the cold. Thank you again for having me today. I need to edit my post a little and add some more photos but for the most part is all finished and I hope you like it.

I have loved ALL of our collabs in 2017 and that we have grown so much together. Cannot wait to see where 2018 takes us, both style-wise and elsewhere!

Hugs and Happiest of Happy New Year Shel! <3 Ada.

    • Ada, I am so sorry that you have been stricken ill and then received negative text messages. People can be so…arggh. But I like your attitude…don’t let the negative people get you down. Just shine right through it all! I love your post, by the way, especially the way you had beautiful Vivian showcased! She really is one heck of a little fashionista, isn’t she? And I had so much fun going through your blog looking for blanket scarves! I could have made a collage of 20 blanket scarf outfits that I loved, but I was running short on time and space! And many of your ones from Target, I have the same exact ones! Great minds, my friend. I hope you feel better soon and I hope the temperatures warm up soon, too, or no one will be healthy! Looking forward to all the fun and amazing things that are going to happen in the blogosphere this year.

      Hugs to you!

  15. Happy 2018! Best wishes to you in the New Year! Ada is a lovely lady and i don’t know how anyone blogs with a full time job and being a mom. Nice to see you two collaborate. Love the plaid scarf and what a great color for boots! pine green! they look great on you. The clothe hat is my fav hat too, you look sweet in it and are ready for the cold too :0)
    Have a wonderful day1
    jess xx

    • Jes, thanks so much! I am ready to get down to work now that the holiday crazy has passed! I realized how much I love routine and I don’t like how much it was disrupted with all the holiday stuff. I totally could not resist these boots because of the fabulous color. Now if it would stop snowing and ruining all of my cute shoes, I could show of some more fabulous ones on the blog! Cheers to a new year!

  16. I’m digging these boots, babe! Great winter must-haves!

    Le Stylo Rouge

  17. Whoever said blue and green should never be seen is nuts! Your outfit proves it’s a winner for everyone. Jacqui

  18. You both look great! Happy New Year to two fab ladies 🙂

  19. Happy new year, Shelbee! I, too, am a fan of blanket scarves, and I especially like yours today! I think I need to invest in a plaid version!
    Cheryl Shops |

    • Thanks so much, Cheryl! I have quite the obsession with blanket scarves, but I think all of mine are plaid! I think I need to invest a few that maybe are not plaid! Happy New Year to you!

  20. I love that navy coat and that scarf goes with it so perfectly. I have a scarf with some similar colors. I also LOVE your grey boots, I really need to add a grey pair to my wardrobe pronto! Ada is such a sweetie!

    • Thanks so much, Carrie! I do love blue and green together, so this scarf naturally had to become mine! And actually, these boots are like a dark forest green color! But seriously, check out Shoe Dazzle for gray boots! They have so many to choose from. Wishing you a fabulous new year, my friend!

  21. Happy New Year Shelbee!! I read your blog a couple of times a week, but I have not commented yet (that is my New Year’s resolution). Your beautiful snowy pictures make me wish that it wasn’t so hot here in SoCal, but then when we were watching Ryan Seacrest on NYE, I was very happy that our house didn’t get below 66 degrees that night. I am looking forward to seeing all the excitement that you have planned for the coming year !

    • Hi Rosie! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting! I do love the snowy background for photographs, but honestly it is just too cold these past few weeks to stand out there long enough to take pictures. SoCal sounds marvelous to me right now! And I hear you about trying to comment more. I always feel so bad that I can’t get around to commenting on all of the posts that join my link ups. That is one of my goals this year as well! And I am already failing on day 2 of the year. Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year!

  22. Looking great. Thanks for hosting and Happy New Year to you. Let’s hope for a great 2018.

  23. Happy New Year! I love that coat and scarf combo, they compliment each other perfectly!

  24. You and Ada look fabulous! Love these winter looks!
    Stylin In St. Louis

  25. That scarf is so cozy looking! Hopefully it helps battle those frigid temps! Love your boots too!

  26. Beautiful outfit! You look great! I love your scarf and OTK boots. 😍 Honestly I have never experienced a below 20 temperature and it’s hard enough to dress for this kind of weather but anything below that and I am thinking I won’t be leaving my house!!! 😱 Looking forward to all of your 2018 posts!

    • Thanks so much, Maureen! I pretty much wear a scarf every day in the winter where I live! Today, we woke up to 15 degrees and we are excited that it isn’t below zero! This is going to be a long, harsh winter for us, I think! I will do my best to keep sharing cold weather outfit ideas…but by the end of winter, I may just look like an eskimo!

  27. What a pretty scarf! I love, love scarves! I follow Ada, and her post are always fabulous! Happy New Year!!

    • Thank you, Julie! I have a bit of scarf problem myself…especially cozy blanket scarves! And isn’t Ada great? I wish you a very happy and healthy new year, my friend!

  28. Shelbee, you and Ada make a dynamic team for collaborations and you both look so weather appropriate with your blanket scarves. Your mix of blue and green in your outfit is fabulous and you look warm and cozy. Happy new year and thank you for the blog post shout out, my friend.

    • Thank you so much, Rena! It is always such fun to join forces with my amazing blogger friends and collaborate. Let’s you and I plan something soon as well! I will email you!

Have a fabulous day, my friend.

  29. HAPPY NEW YEAR, SHELBEE! I hope you’re managing to keep warm. I still can’t quite believe how cold it is in your part of the country brrrrrrrrrr
    Suzy xxx

    • Thanks so much, Suzy! Happy New Year to you as well! I can’t believe how cold it is either. I’m freezing from the inside out and from the outside in! The upside is, however, that on Monday it is supposed to be 30 degrees…and that will actually feel warm!

  30. Hey Cutie. Are you letting your hair grow? It looks great and you are looking rather “fetch”. Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Ah, Cathe! I am letting my hair grow out! I want to wear pigtails! How fetch is that? Thank you so much, my friend, for stopping by and commenting! And a very happy new year to you as well.

    Emma xxx

    • Emma, thank you so much. I, too, love my blanket scarves and should probably have one around me now as I sit here shivering and trying to respond to comments with frozen fingertips! Ha.

  35. I love following both of your blogs, so much fashion inspo when I come visit. 🙂 Happy New Year!!

  38. Love this cozy look & the colorblocking is perfection

    • Thank you very much, Michelle! I am quite fond of the blue and green color blocking as well although it took a little tweaking to get it just right. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

  39. This post is making me long to wear my blanket scarves. I too have many, not out of necessity like Ada, but because I love pretty things! Living in Los Angeles, I have yet had the need to wear a blanket scarf this fall/winter. But I will still bust them out and enjoy their aesthetic even if I don’t need them for the warmth! Thanks for providing a happy and supportive space!

    • Elsie, thank you so much for stopping by and for such a lovely comment! I think I would wear blanket scarves, too, even if they were not a necessity. They are so pretty and soft and provide a little extra interest to any outfit. Enjoy the sunshine and send some rays my way! Have a fabulous weekend.

  40. Love all the scarf ideas, great to keep warm while making a fashion statement!!
