What to Wear to a Summer Wedding with DressLily & Link Up On the Edge #52

It is summer wedding season and although I do not have any open invitations this year, my brother-in-law is getting married next May.  In preparation for that event, I have been trying out some different dress options.  My boys will both be in the wedding all decked out in their little tuxedos and most likely not on their best behavior. I’m sure I will have to intervene and assist them at some point, putting me directly in the spotlight for at least a moment, since it is a natural human instinct to look at the parents of the rowdy children and wonder what the hell kind of mother allows their children to act so obnoxiously at a formal event! So, I need to at least look like I’ve got my shit together. I also need adequate coverage so I don’t expose my nether-regions while bending and squatting to reprimand the little tuxedo-clad beasts!

*This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I recently ordered this teal lace dress from DressLily as one option. It is available in four colors and my husband chose the teal for me as he is a huge fan of blue tones. Also, he will be all decked out in his dress blues for the wedding and teal paired with the regal colors of his uniform will make a striking combination.

This wedding is going to be a formal evening event, so I chose to accessorize the teal with black. I chose a black cardigan for an extra layer if needed and black seamed thigh high stockings with black strappy, sparkly heels…because you all know how I love those little edgy details! I do have black shape wear shorts underneath in case the wind or the children get hold of my dress! A small black clutch and subtle black jewelry complete the look so as not to detract from the rich vibrant color and lace details of the dress.  This is the sort of dress that stands quite well on its own without the need for extravagant accessories.

For a day time wedding that may be more casual, I could certainly opt for bare legs and nude sandals and perhaps a sheer, lightweight wrap for my shoulders. Diamonds or pearls would pair nicely with that look.

I suppose I should share some other dresses with you that I have acquired with this upcoming wedding in mind. Stay tuned for those in the coming weeks.

  8. Oh Shelbee! I feel like that dancing with the stars judge Bruno Tonioli! The dress is stunning…but those stockings with the lace tops and the seams…I am going to have to see if I can find mine! I had forgotten how hot lace top stockings are.

    • Nina, you are so adorable! Thank you for the lovely compliment. I looked everywhere for seamed stockings…like the obvious places…Victoria’s Secret, Hot Topic, and other small lingerie shops, with no luck whatsoever. Then I finally found them in Target, of all places. And I am so glad that I did! Because I have worn them to complete many a sexy outfit! I look forward to seeing some lace top thigh highs on your blog soon! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

  13. Blue lace is an excellent choice for a dressy occasion … kudos to your husband on the color choice. It suits your coloring and your accessories perfectly highlight your assets and style. Thank you for sharing your thought process for deciding on an outfit that ‘fits’ you, literally and figuratively.

  16. Your husband most certainly knows how to pick a great color for his beautiful wife! The dress is fab on you and I love the stockings – you know how to add just the right amount of edge – so classy!!! And I’m totally chuckling about you having to reprimand the boys at the wedding and people looking at you – as a mom of boys (17 &19) I have so been there! Have a wonderful weekend gorgeous!

    • Kellyann, thank you so much for this lovely compliment! And thanks for understanding my plight of raising two boys two years apart in age! The struggle is real, isn’t it? Please tell me it gets better!

      xoxo
      Shelbee

      • Oh girl, hells to the YES it gets so much better! Our boys settle down right as all the cute little girls become total drama queens, mean girls, etc. and then you’re like, “Oh thank God I have boys!” My boys are so easy peasy and have been for some time now but that was not always the case, towards the end of elementary school it got wayyyyyy easier! Boys are absolutely the BEST!!! This coming from someone who always (thought) wanted a girl!

        • Kellyann, thank you so much for that affirmation! I always thought I wanted girls, too, but I already so glad that I have boys! But man, they are at a challenging stage!
