The Velvet Trend with Zan.Style & Link Up On the Edge #67

I know some women my age who grew up in the late 80’s-early 90’s have some mixed emotions about the velvet trend that has taken over the fashion world the past few years. For me, I simply cannot get enough of it. Whether I see it in warm autumn hues, cool jewel tones, or soft pastels on shirts, pants, dresses, or shoes…I pretty much feel the burning urge to have it all. I have quite a few velvet pieces that I picked up last year at the end of the winter season when it was all on clearance, so you can bet my velvet clad bottom that you are going to start seeing lots of this luxurious fabric showing up on my blog.

*This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

*Shirt: Long Sleeve Button Front Velvet Shirt – Blackish Green ($100.00) c/o Zan.Style.

A few weeks back, I introduced you all to Zan.Style, a new online retailer created by a β€œgroup of fashion thinkers and stylistic creators who craved what we were missing: quality fashion that could adapt to our attitude, and to our personal lifestyle.” Zan.Style offers β€œmodern apparel that showcases our unique identity and individual personality because a great style allows us to be more than who we are.” Check out my wish list of favorite pieces from Zan.Style.

*Jeans: Torrid Premium Ultimate Stretch Jeggings – Medium Wash with Fading ($56.17).

First, let me talk about the fabric on this top. It is so soft and has enough stretch to make it super comfortable for all day wearability. I am absolutely in love with the dark green color, making it the perfect top for fall festivities. For size reference, I order the XXXL (the largest size available) and it is a little snug across the bust and the shoulders. I solved the gaping button issue by adding a lace bralette underneath and leaving the top buttons undone. The open neckline begged for a bold vintage inspired statement necklace.

*Necklace: Vintage Inspired Black Stone Statement Necklace ($23.11) c/o Happiness Boutique.

I am thinking this top is going to make its way through my outfit rotation quite frequently through the holiday season. It works great with jeans and heels. But I am also thinking of pairing it with a chic pencil skirt and some sassy boots. Or even layered as a jacket over a slip dress.

*Bralette: Torrid Crop Lace Bralette ($21.67).

How do you all feel about the velvet trend? If you are on board, what are your favorite velvet pieces to wear? What’s on your wish list this season?

*Shoes: Impo Tyra Pump from DSW (Sold Out). Similar options here, here, and here.

  3. I adore the velvet trend, but alas have only one piece in my wardrobe. I love this shirt and what a brilliant colour for Autumn. Jacqui

  5. Shelbee, I love the velvet trend too. I have a blazer, a couple of tops and hope to add a few more things eventually. It is such a fun fabric and as you say can be dressed up or down. Love what you did with this outfit. Those shoes are the perfect finisher. Have a great weekend. – Amy

  6. I think velvet is a fun trend, and I’d love to add a piece to my wardrobe. I love the color of your shirt, and I’m sure you’ll get a lot of wear out of it, especially during the holidays! It looks fabulous with jeans, and I can picture it styled so many other ways. You’ll have fun!

    • Thank you so much, Andrea! It’s the color that really pulled me on for this top. And then when I received it, I was very impressed with the quality of the fabric, too. I need to start bringing all the velvet now that the weather has finally turned cooler here. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

  7. Tina von Tinaspinkfriday

You look amazing in Velvet Shelbee! XO Tina

  8. I love all things velvet/velour…always have and I could care less if it’s trendy or not! This top is beautiful, besides being velvet, the color is gorgeous!

    • Thanks so much, Debbie! I always have loved all velvet and velour, too. Although I am more partial to velvet than I am to velour. I have a few velvet blazers that I thrifted years ago that make their way out every fall/winter. I just wish I still had some of the velvet pieces that I had back in the 90’s…all vintage and stuff! Now I want to go thrifting! Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a fabulous weekend.

  9. I am so loving the velvet trend. This green top is amazing and will be so perfect for the holidays! Dying over your shoes and bralette too. Thanks so much for the link up!

    • Kathrine, thank you so much! Okay, so these bralettes are like a must have and I wear them so often. I have 5 different ones and I totally need more! They are so much better than a camisole. There will be more velvet coming to my blog this season, I’m sure. Have a great weekend, my friend.

  10. To be honest, Shelbee, I love the velvet shirt on you. I am not a big fan of velvet per se, I never style it well. But it looks gorgeous on you, so kudos, my friend!

    • Thanks so much, Miri! If you want to try the trend, but don’t want to go full force velvet, what about trying a scarf or a clutch? Or even velvet shoes? Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend!

  11. I love velvet!! Have a great weekend!

  12. Velvet is timeless. It’s always a great look for fall/winter, no matter whether it’s trending or not. I have a burnout velvet top and skirt from the 90s that I’ve been wearing, well, since the 90s! I never grow tired of the feel of that fabric.
That top is gorgeous and I absolutely love the color. You are going to get lots of mileage out of that beauty! And I’m really digging those shoes worn with the fishnets.

    • Theresa, I agree with you completely about the timelessness of velvet. I just wish I still had some of my velvet pieces from the 90’s. Although they probably would not fit anymore! But I would figure out some way to repurpose them if I had them. Ah well. I do have some gorgeous velvet blazers that I thrifted years ago that are in frequent rotation. They may be from the 90’s! Thanks so much for stopping by and for the lovely comment. Have a fabulous weekend.

  13. Yay, we’re velvet twins today! LOVE this on you, Dear!

    Dawn Lucy

    • Yes, yes, we are, Dawn Lucy! I am loving that burgundy velvet you are showing today. These rich jewel tones and deep fall colors are so fabulous when paired with the lushness of velvet! Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend!

  15. I totally have mixed feelings when it comes to velvet… I like it, but I am not sure about it. I guess I have to find the right piece for me. This button down is so cute however! My style πŸ˜‰ love how you paired it with those heels!!

  16. So luxe and love the blackish-green color! Good to know it has stretch too, should be super comfy.

  17. Some of my favorite outfits over the years have included velvet. I’m happy to see it making a comeback, especially for the upcoming holidays.

  18. Didn’t know velvet was back in style. The shoes and the fishnets give the look an 80’s rocker style. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful weekend.

    • Oh yes, Patrick, velvet has hit the fashion world like crazy the past few years! Shoes, bags, scarves, hats, and every single type of apparel can be found in velvet right now! And I love that I created an 80’s rocker vibe! Thank you for noticing. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

  19. I really like the velvet trend, but only have a couple of pieces in my wardrobe. I think it is so pretty and romantic. Your green velvet shirt is a wonderful item and I enjoyed reading all the ways you plan to style it! I love the color, naturally. πŸ™‚ Your fishnets and pumps are a fabulous pairing, too!

    • Jennie, thank you so much for this lovely compliment! And this color green would look so fabulous on you, too! I love the romantic vintage feel of velvet, too. It is just luxurious and soft. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a great weekend.

  20. I’ve been loving the velvet trend, and it’s perfect for the holidays! This velvet top looks beautiful on you, and I love the color! I’m also loving the lace bralette underneath.

    • Thanks so much, Rachael! These lace bralettes are an absolute must-have for me lately. I love them so much more than a full camisole. They allow the outer layer to drape so much better! Have a great weekend, my friend.

  21. I hope you’re feeling better. You look great! Be sure to use a teaspoon of honey often for your throat!

    • Thanks so much, Carol! I appreciate the compliment and the honey recommendation! I have been drinking tea with honey as well as a warm concoction of honey, apple cider vinegar, lemon, sugar, cinnamon and hot water. The pain is gone along with my voice!

  22. Love love love the velvet trend it looks great on you!

    Life is just Rosie

  23. Even though I wore it the first time around, I fully support the return of velvet, and it looks great on you too! Happy Friday, and thanks for hosting!

  24. Love those heels, especially with the netting socks! I’m not a super big fan of velvet on myself (usually it makes me sneeze!) But I did find a top I liked that I am going to have to wear one of these days.

    • Mary, thank you for the loverly compliment! And I have to apologize that I laughed a little at velvet making you sneeze! I wonder what on earth about the fabric causes you to sneeze. Is it the only fabric that causes this reaction? And if you are allergic to it, then maybe you shouldn’t wear it! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  25. Well you certainly can pull that velvet look off! I wonder how I’d feel in velvet..maybe worth trying πŸ™‚
Thanks for hosting your fab party and for sharing with mine as well.
    Have a wonderful weekend πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much, Paula! I do love velvet! My suggestion to people who are unsure of velvet is to try an accessory first…like shoes or a scarf or a bag even. And see how you feel about it! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.

  34. I remember growing up with the velvet crush..literally!! I think it is still stylish today.

  35. Velvet and I, we’re like that close (insert appropriate emoji to represent a tight-knit sisterhood) and I would wear in all colours, all shapes, all styles. From a turban on my head to the heeled booties on my feet GRIN that shirt looks gorgeous on you, Shelbee, that green is working magic on your complexion and that jet black hair of yours. I can imagine you wearing it under a corset or bustier too, incidentally, with the buttons undone in the middle (no one can see them, and it’s so much more comfy) with a sassy pleated skirt. The shorter the merrier xoxo

  36. Hi Shelbee,

Great outfits and photos as ever. Velvet isn’t one of my favorites but I am really loving the pale green crushed velvet on you. Really suits you. Suzi

  37. Love the velvet trend! Love it in green on you!

    • Elle, thank you so much for this lovely comment! The fabric is so luxurious on this top although it is polyester. But I will have to look for some silk velvet and see how glorious it is! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day.

  39. I’m loving the velvet trend. I’ve just recently bought two pairs of velvet boots, and I have a pair of blue velvet Gucci loafers that I LOVE! I think this top looks fabulous on you, and that color is so Fall perfect. I also love those jeggings. They are so much more comfortable than regular jeans. You look gorgeous!

    • Thank you so much, Julie! These Torrid jeggings are seriously the most comfortable jeans ever. I find myself reaching for them time and again. And blue velvet Gucci loafers sound absolutely delectable! Velvet loafers I do not own, but now you have me thinking! Have a fabulous day.

  40. i have had a few velvet pieces over the years, mainly in brown, black and burgundy colours. I can’t say I am in love with it these days, it’s not me. Who knows though, something may come along that I have to have!

    • Alicia, thanks for stopping by and commenting. I know a lot of people who really just don’t like velvet. It is sort of like you love it or hate it…there is no in between. Maybe try an accessory in velvet if you are compelled to give it another try! Have a fabulous day.
