Scarves are My Thing

Before I started blogging and was researching the entire process, many of my resources were suggesting that I find my signature style and be able to precisely articulate it. This was very difficult for me because I really do not fit into a neat little precisely articulated package in fashion…or in anything really. I like preppy styles. I like vintage fashion. I like current trends. I like bohemian styles. I like throwback hippie clothes. I like chic and sophisticated looks. I like structured pieces. And I like loose flowing items as well. I like shoes. Literally all shoes. I like necklaces and wearing them alone or layered. I only recently started to like stacking bracelets and changing up my earrings. I don’t really like handbags as I don’t have the time to change out bags to match outfits and I need a bag big enough to hold all of my mom essentials. So you will rarely see me with a handbag in photos.

So where does this leave me? An imprecise, unarticulated style enigma? Maybe. But I can say this with certainty…I like jeans. Really like jeans. Jeans are the best article of clothing for this stay at home mom. I can dress them up, down, or anywhere in between. But in the end, I am still just wearing my same old trusty, comfortable, durable jeans.

And scarves. I really love scarves. If I had to have a trademark piece it would have to be a scarf. In the cooler seasons, I wear scarves for warmth. All day. Every day. Inside the house and out. My neck is always chilled. So I always wear a scarf. I’m warm and toasty and they look cute. Scarves have become so much a part of my style over the years (I have accumulated quite a few, to say the least) that I feel something is missing without one. I can’t put them away just because the weather turned warm. I just switch to lighter weight scarves and don’t wrap them as snugly around my neck. So I guess my thing…my true trademark thing…is scarves.

  1. I would define your style as eclectic 🙂 like my own. I like it all !!
And with the scarves in mind your style definition would also include “signature scarves”.

  2. Shannon

I love a good scarf! Your collection is amazing! So many pretty prints!

    Upbeat Soles

    • Thanks for stopping by, Shannon! I have such a huge collection that it takes a really special scarf for me to even consider purchasing these days. But I get really excited when I see a scarf that wows me!

  3. Like the scarf 😉

I am totally with ya. Not only do they add such a pretty factor, a warmth factor, Sometimes scarves give me a little security, lol. You have such a pretty and feminine collection of them!!

    • Thank you, Andrea! I don’t even think these are my prettiest ones! They are my most versatile ones so I wear them more often. I hope to show off more scarves soon!

  7. Love all of your scarves, especially that blue one from Target!

    • Thanks, Candace! I got that scarf last year on clearance and it quickly became a favorite…it is so versatile! But a few weeks ago, I did see that Target had the same scarves out for Spring again.

  8. The scarves add such a lovely, bright touch to all of your outfits!

  9. Beautiful outfits! I love the bright pop of pink in the first couple of outfits!

  10. As one scarf loving lady to another, I absolutely get that it’s your trademark! My scarf collection is ever growing and will one day fill the whole house I’m sure!
My trademark is definitely the beret! I love wearing them although it’s not so easy in Summer but hey, Summers in the UK tend to be short and sweet so it’s only really about 3 months when I’m not wearing them!

    • My scarf collection is slowly creeping out of its bins and falling off its hanging rack! And you look so adorable in your berets! I know the feeling of having to pass on our trademark when it’s just too warm. But summers are short where I live, too, so we have that going for us! Thanks so much for stopping by!

  11. I love you AND your scarves! And jeans even. I have added so many to my collection too this year, I love how it can make a simple outfit pop or seem so much more “feminine”. I too like them in all seasons, even in the house on chilly days. Thanks for helping me expand my collection and justify having more than I had just a few months ago.

    • Ha! Thanks, Amy! I love you, too. And I have 2 more awesome scarves that I picked up for you during my ventures the last many weeks you’ve been gone! But you will be home in a few days! Yay! I can’t wait to see you.

  12. Your collection of scarves is great and you created great outfits with them Shelbee. I own way too many scarves but haven’t worn one in forever. I need to change that.

I am talking pretty dresses and skirts for Spring, in today’s post too. Come check it out. =)

I would love for you to linkup with me tomorrow and share your latest style posts with my readers. I think they would love your style as well as I do. Thanks, Ada. =)

  13. You have a beautiful scarf collection, my favorite are the greens

    • Thank you, Catherine. After looking through my photos, I don’t think I wear green enough. It has always been my favorite color, but I just don’t have a lot of it my wardrobe. I need to start adding more green. Thanks for stopping by!

  14. I’m obsessed with scarves too! They are the perfect way to change up a look! Love your collection!

    Doused In Pink

    • Thank you, Jill! It really is an obsession. Every time I go shopping, I have to check out the scarves to see if something grabs me. I just can’t get enough!

  15. I don’t like to define my style to narrowly either. Scarves are the perfect accessory!

  16. I don’t know why the research would say one needs to find a signature style to blog about fashion, because I know a few blogs like that, and I find them boring. Initially, I might really like their blog, but if they are wearing the same thing day after day, it just gets old. I’m with you…I wear everything. It all depends on what kind of mood I’m in, the event, and the weather. As yes, to scarves. I have a gazillion of them too! And I wear mine in the house as well. I’m always freezing, and they help me keep me warm. I especially love to wear them in the spring/fall when the temps fluctuate so much during the day.

    • Amy, thank you so much for those words! Here, I was worried that I was all over the place never realizing that I was NOT being boring! That actually really made my day! I totally get dressed based on mood. I have never been able to plan an outfit the night before. Ever! And I will always be a crazy scarf lady, I guess. And that’s cool because that’s just me! Thanks for stopping by.

  17. You are definitely fantastic at accessorizing with scarves! I loveee the feeling of one around my neck. It’s like a little headrest you get to carry around with you:) I love the Burlington Coat Factory scarf, and the one above it! I’m also all for jeans, I just hate that I can’t wear them often. I try to find as many white and black pairs as possible to be able to get away with them at school. I think I like exploring different styles. If anything, blogging has taught me that while I do have a style I lean toward more, I really really enjoy being able to mess around with lots of them!

    • Thanks so much, Emily! There is a certain comfort, security blanket-like, that a scarf brings, right? It is definitely fun to change up our styles and play around until we find what we are really comfortable in. Or even to just explore a different, sassier side of ourselves. It’s nice that you can find jeans these days in so many different colors and cuts so that you can still wear them in a setting where “blue jeans” may not be acceptable! Thanks for stopping by!

  18. I love accessorizing with scarves, too! Such a fun way to change up an outfit. You have a fabulous collection!

  23. You have so many lovely scarves, Shelbee! And a beautiful scarf can make an outfit…I especially like the first one.
I haven’t worn mine often recently, but your post has given me some ideas …

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  24. I love scarves too! They all ways add dimension and texture to any look!! Love yours, AND your lace up flats are fantastic too!!

    xx, Elise

  25. You have a great selection of scarves! I have been trying to get some of my lighter ones out for the spring! I love the scarf and windowpane top in the first outfit, the scarf adds the perfect pop of color and amount of texture!

    • Thank you, Carrie. I actually was unsure of that top and scarf combo (I paired them together for a style challenge), but after looking through my pictures, it is actually one of my favorite combinations! Thanks for stopping by!

  26. I know what you mean, I feel like I have trouble fitting into a niche also! Love all of your scarves!

  27. Lovely collection of scarves and I love the outfits you styled them with, thanks for sharing!

  29. Love a good scarf, such a chic add to the outfit! Xx

  30. Hi Shelbee, your blog is delightful and if i didn’t know better i’d have thought you were writing it about me! We are so similar with styles we like, liking jeans so much and yay our love of scarfs! I adore them summer and winter they are a fashion accessory as well as keeping me warm. Glad i popped over to see your great blog. Jacqui

    • Aw! Wonderful minds think alike, don’t they, Jacqui?! And we are also similar in our desire to NOT embrace the silver hair! I’m not ready yet either and therefore, many hours and much money spent in the salon. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend!

  31. Such cute scarves! I feel like I can only pull them off in the winter months, definitely need to find some for Spring! Have a great weekend! 🙂

  34. Scarves are definitely a fun way to add interest to a look! Sadly, I stopped wearing them when I cut my hair a couple of years ago. It’s exactly the wrong length for scarves now (the scarves smoosh up the bottom of my hair and that annoys me, LOL) so I guess I’ll just have to admire your collection!
Gina || On the Daily Express

    • Oh no, Gina! I did have that happen to me when I cut my hair short, too! So then I cut it even shorter in the back so that wouldn’t happen anymore because it was driving me crazy, too! Before I cut it shorter though, I went to a crazy messed up in the back style. And all so I could wear my scarves! I hope you find a scarf solution that suits you!

  35. I love scarves too and all your choices look so fun! You should check out some the scarves we sell on our web site.

  36. I didn’t think I had a signature style either – it’s really occasion & mood dependent. You have a great collection of scarves!

Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend!

  37. My style is pretty eclectic, too, but I also LOVE scarves! It’s always really difficult for me to pass up a great scarf (plus, they don’t take up too much space, so I can often justify adding a new scarf to my very limited storage space…).

You have a wonderful scarf collection!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  38. scarves are the best!
I actually sort of disagree with sites that recommend finding a “signature” style. It sort of limits the endless possibilities that is fashion and style! It’s all about experimentation and surprising elements that make the ultimate outfit unique from others who have similar pieces as you. =)

  39. You definitely can rock scarves! Good for you for not boxing your style into one category.

  40. Thank you for linking up on Fancy Friday!

  41. Love the black flats…
    Great post

  42. I have an almost scary amount of scarves myself! I used to wear them almost every day, but we’ve been on a bit of a break. Maybe it’s time to get them all out again!! 😀

Thanks so much for joining in the fun for Fun Fashion Friday!

    Dawn Lucy

    • I think we all go through phases with certain items in our closets, don’t we? I guess that’s why I never get rid of anything! You never know when you may wear it again! Thank you for stopping by, Dawn Lucy!

  43. I love this post so much Shelbee .I love that you do not fit into a specific style. Your style is just that, your style, wearing scarves is a lovely way to share your favorite accessory and you look lovely in all of these photos. thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things link Party. Watch for your feature on monday, pinned xo

    • Thank you so much, Katherine! I am honored that you are featuring me. Such a lovely surprise! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I will stop by your page tomorrow!

  44. All your scarves are really cute!! I agree I don t fit into a mold either when it comes to style..I like several different trends…so fun to explore so many!

    Great style!

  45. I can definitely relate to not having one certain style and I’d even venture to say, I’m not sure if I have one particular thing. BUT, I will be thinking about it now that I read your post. 😉 Thank you for the inspiration. Glad I stopped by to see your blog. You seem very sincere!

    • Thank you, Chrissy. Such kind words! Please do let me know if you find your one particular thing. I would love to see what it ends up being if you discover it! Thanks for reading.

  46. I am very much the same way – I just like (almost) all of it. There are people with a great vision in fashion, just like there are such artists in any art form, and they develop their own personal style and bring it to the level of fine art. It is a very focused vision, and as a result usually it is one defined style. But there are also many people like you and myself who just like to play and try different things in different styles. We’ll see where it takes us. 🙂 I am recently into vintage style dresses, everything from 1930s to 1970s. I also have a collection of scarves, they are a great accessory and practical too. You look beautiful and confident in your outfits! I can tell you don’t overthink them – just go with your guts. I like such easy relaxed approach to dressing. 🙂
Thank you for leaving a lovely comment on my post!

    • Thank you, Natalia! That is a brilliant approach to fashion and style! I love vintage clothing but it never fits me quite right! But I certainly enjoy seeing it on people who can wear it and I have a great appreciation for all styles and trends through the generations. Fashion has always fascinated me, but I am only recently honing in on that. Thanks for visiting!

  47. Yay for scarves! You and I have a similar love of sartorial CHOICE. 🙂

  48. Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. It looks like you are as scarf obsessed as I am. LOL. I bet you could also build an escape rope from the Entire State Building with your scarf collection.

  49. I love the tunic in the first picture, thanks for including the details!
