The September Issue: How to Style a Little White Dress for Fall & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #37

For those of you who may not be quite ready to pack away your summer wardrobe as the cooler Fall temperatures start sweeping over you, this post is for you! Today I am joining forces with eight fabulous bloggers to show you nine different ways to style that little white summer dress for Fall! This is all the result of the creative mind of Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood, so I want to thank her for inviting me to join!  She is always so much fun to join in collaboration.  Ada is such a great example of how kindness is spread throughout blogland! So have a scroll through to see how I have styled my little white (actually ivory) linen dress for Fall, then stop by and check out how these other eight marvelous ladies have styled their little white dresses. When you are finished, head straight for your closet and grab your favorite summer piece and let your creative styling begin.

The one thing I want to point out about my outfit is that every thing I am wearing has been in my closet for at least a year. Nothing new here, so no links to provide. But it shows that you can shop your closet and still be completely current with your clothes.

And since the weather is just getting mildly cooler, you can still wear your linen items (wrinkles and all) into the Fall by adding light layers and boots.

For me the layers are important for two reasons. Where I live, we start the days now around 40 degrees and by afternoon we are hitting the mid to upper 70’s. That is a drastic temperature change over the course of a few hours. And perimenopause, my friends. It wreaks havoc on a woman’s ability to properly regulate body temperature. I’m hot, then I’m cold. I’m sweating, then I shiver. It’s a vicious cycle and it’s quite miserable. Layers help a little bit. (I know some of you can relate to this!)

So if you are looking for some wonderful ways to keep wearing your little white dress, visit these other ladies and see how they’ve done it!

  2. What a wonderful collaboration! I love the bomber jacket with this dress. Tied around the waist looks so cool and chic. Thanks for the link up Shelbee!

    • Thank you so much, Kathrine! This was so fun and all the ladies showed such amazing style! I am a big fan of tying jackets and shirts around my waist…since I don’t have much of waist, it definitely helps create the illusion of one. Thanks for stopping by and have a stellar day!

  3. I love this post! I especially love how you paired those neutral boots with your white dress! So easy on the eyes girl! Adding the jacket just made everything pop! This was a fun post and I love getting to see all the ladies styling white dresses!

    • Cheryl, thank you so much! I am really happy with how this all turned out. I was having the worst time styling a LWD dress for Fall. First, I kept trying a swing dress with a lacy yoke and it just kept looking like a nightgown. I darn near gave up on the whole challenge, until I switched dresses! Then I feel like I hit my creative stride. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

    • Jodie, thanks so much! This was definitely one of my “ah-ha” moments as I was having a heck of a time styling my LWD for fall! But I am very happy with the outcome. Thanks for stopping by, my fiend. Have a marvelous day!

  5. Love how you style your white dress for fall Shelbee and the whole shop your closet concept! That bomber is so fun! Also, it occurred to me this morning that my brother was stationed in Watertown several years ago. He met his now wife there and they are currently stationed in Columbus. Small World. Now when I look at your pictures I will be picturing what their life was surrounded by, once upon a time. 🙂

    • Aw, Chrissy, I love that small world story! Watertown is a very small place so I’m sure that your brother would be quite familiar with many of my photo spots. I love your take on the LWD for fall. You look adorable as always! This was a super fun collaboration and I am looking forward to the next one. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a marvelous day!

    • Thank you so much, Elise! A dark floral jacket is key for Fall, in my opinion! I bought this bomber on clearance at Target and have gotten so much wear out of it already. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day.

  9. The floral bomber is key for fall! I also love how you added the nude fishnets. Sexy, but subtle! So happy we got to collaborate again!
    –Roxanne
    http://glassofglam.com

    • Thanks so much, Roxanne! I love that you also chose the floral bomber for your LWD! Aren’t these fishnets great? I have had them for so long and I am fearful of the day they run and can no longer be worn. I don’t know how I will ever replace them! Such a fun collaboration. I am looking forward to the next one.

    • Suzy, thank you so much! Boots weather is definitely my favorite. But we have a bit of heat wave coming through the next 10 days so I will be going back to sandals! Better get my toes done one last time! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day, my friend.

  12. Looks nice and stylish. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful week.

  13. I am getting a floral jacket in the mail tomorrow and I’ve been looking for ways to style it. Just love how you layered it with this white dress. I have a white dress in my closet and it is OTS, so a floral jacket would def. be perfect with it to cover my shoulders in the fall. Thanks for sharing! What a lovely collab, now I can find some other ways to style my white dress, too!

    • Carrie, thank you so much! Ooh, I am so glad I could inspire you to style your new floral jacket with a white dress! I look forward to seeing how you do it! Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day. (I also like a floral jacket with a dark green camo print…it is so good!)

    • Jess, thanks so much! I am so pleased with how this turned out! It was actually quite the challenge for me…I had to switch dresses because my first white dress looked like a nightgown. I look forward to see how you style an LWD for Fall!

  18. Love how you added tall boots and a floral bomber! This was such a fun collaboration!

  19. I hear ya about reusing your summer pieces for fall. I wrote a piece about that. Great solutions for revamping your fall wardrobe. I wanted to ask whether your healthier lifestyle efforts have been paying off. I’m noticing a change in your physique. Looking great!!

    • Rania, thanks so much! I’m heading over to check out your post! So far, I haven’t made very drastic changes, but I have rid my home of all the junk food. I drink only water (and coffee…I will always drink coffee, I fear) and I have been walking almost daily. So nothing rigorous or completely drastic, but little changes. Sticking with the baby steps. I appreciate you asking me though! Thank you.

    • Thanks so much, Ruth! I was super happy with how this all turned out especially since I struggled with an LWD that looked like a nightgown at first! Once I got my groove, it went smoothly from there. Stay tuned for our wedding outfit post coming in two weeks!

  22. Shelbee, what a fantastic collaboration and brilliant idea for a theme (I’ll be sure to tell that to Ada as well). You, my friend, look fabulous, fun, and feisty as always. Pairing your dress with boots and a bomber jacket already in your closet was a stroke of genius and no money spent to do so! Thank you so much for the call out my link up post from last week. I know that I’ve gotten a few hits off of it and that is always appreciated.

    Rena
    http://www.finewhateverblog.com

    • Rena, thank you so much, as always, for your kind and generous comments! Ada really puts together some great collaborations, for sure. This was a lot of fun once I figured out the right white dress to style! Ha. I started with a white dress that was too much like a nightgown. It wasn’t good! I wish links were getting more hits from my link ups though…lots of people are linking up but not too many are clicking on others! My number there has dropped way, way, way off. Not sure why. Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day!

Thank you for thinking the same!
