Getting in Touch with My Inner 4 Year Old

This outfit was inspired by my new mom friend, B. Her kids go to school with my son and recently she and I were talking at the school playground about one of my favorite topics…clothing! I was telling her that I had a bunch of really cute skirts and dresses that I was itching to wear but “where the hell am I going dressed like that…the playground?” Her response was perfection: “Yeah. Why not? My four-year-old is running around the playground in her dress!”

Thanks to B., I decided why not start wearing my dresses and skirts…even if am only going to the playground. As long as I’m comfortable, I’m doing it! I’m getting in touch with my inner four-year-old!

So two days after this conversation, I styled this adorable green and navy striped dress with flat over the knee boots to keep it practical. And I wore it to the playground. Then I wore it around the house just doing mom stuff. And you know what happened? I felt freaking fantastic all day! So I recommend we all get in touch with our inner little people, the ones who would wear a princess gown and shiny shoes just to go to the playground. Get out your date night clothes or that outfit that you love but you never wear because it’s just too fancy for mom life, put it on, and wear the heck out that perfect outfit! Wear it to the grocery store. Wear it to drop off and pick up the kids. Wear it to run errands. Wear it because it makes you feel great. Wear it just to do your mundane daily mom stuff…and I guarantee you will not feel mundane at all! You will feel prettier, you will be more productive, you will smile more, you will have more confidence, and you will just have a better day than the ones you spend in sweatpants!

Do you overdress sometimes just to feel good? Would you wear a dress to the playground?
