Crochet Vest Two Ways and On the Edge of the Week Link Up #6

I picked up this adorable crochet vest on clearance last year from Cato Fashions, but then every time I put it on since it never looked quite right. But I think I have finally figured it out and I have styled it twice in the past two weeks.

The first outfit is the exact same outfit I had on when I purchased the vest and I loved how it looked so much the day I bought it that I wore it out of the store. At first I was unsure of pairing the ivory of the vest with white jeans, but then I liked it when it all came together.

Outfit details:
Crochet Vest: Cato Fashions (from last year). This Crochet Waterfall Vest is very similar. And this Mixed Media Duster and this Crochet Fringe Duster Cardigan are equally adorable.
Tee: Old Navy (from last year). You can shop their other tees here.
Jeans: Not Your Daughter’s Jeans I purchased mine at Burlington Coat Factory on clearance last year.
Shoes: XOXO Shoes purchased from Burlington Coat Factory last year.
Necklace: I can’t remember where I purchased this crazy, gaudy necklace but I do remember that it was on super, duper clearance (because I would never spend a large amount of cash on something so ugly)!

The second outfit, I wanted to try a sort of bohemian look so I layered a lavender sundress over a longer ivory slip and then topped it off with the vest and matching crochet footbed sandals. I wore this on a hot day just to hang out my friend’s house with the kids. I was super comfortable and stayed rather cool even with the layers. However, I did make a trip to the store with the children in this outfit and I have to be honest, the vest was kind of pain in the arse for that purpose! It kept getting caught on stuff and my purse straps were getting all tangled up on the multitude of other straps on my shoulder. Next time I know not to wear this vest to do anything other than sit around! But then I get all wrinkled (as evidenced by my dress in some these photos)!

  3. Shelbee, I love the crochet lace vest. It’s so beautiful. I like how you styled it two completely different ways!! I love a vest. They can add so much to a simple outfit like your first one with the jeans and tee. Just gorgeous!! xx-S

    • Thanks so much, Shannon. I have been trying to incorporate more lightweight layers like this into my summer wardrobe because they do add so much more interest. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. Fab photos today Shelbee ! Have a great weekend x

  5. On the first pictures I thought, well nice vest. I like what you did with the shirt in front of the belt, I also do that! But then I saw the other pictures! Wow, great look Shelbee! That looks so beautiful on you, I love the layers and the colors! You realy should wear this outfit often! Hope to see you on Fancy Friday linkup!

    • Thanks so much, Nancy! I almost also do that front tuck with my shirts. It is good camouflage for my belly fat! I also have a white crochet vest that is similar that I want to layer over a long sleeve dress, but it is just too hot for long sleeves right now.

  6. I love the crochet vest, it’s so pretty!

  7. The vest is so pretty and the perfect layering piece! It’s too bad it gets caught on things but definitely a versatile piece that you can style so many ways! Both of these looks are so cute!

  11. Two fabulous outfits! Love how you styled the vest both ways!

  12. I wouldn’t have thought to pair this with white jeans, but it totally works!
Funny how a piece can look so good, but get in the way at times—-this could be a date night outfit!!

    • Thanks, Jodie! I am really loving the combination, for sure. It would be perfect for date night! Except my husband is away…again! Someday, we will get date nights…maybe in 20 years! Ha! But then the trends now will have cycled back around again by that point. Ha. Have a fabulous weekend!

  13. You had me at “long lace vest” and then threw in boho layers? Yep…you know I love this! I love styling white/cream/ivory/off white all together in one outfit; they flow together beautifully. In the fall/winter I like to pair my white jeans with my cream cowl neck sweater and tan booties. That vest sounds like the time I wore a lariat necklace grocery shopping…who knew there were fashion safety hazards? Lol!

    • Oh, there are so many fashion safety hazards, for sure! I can’t even count how many long necklaces have been destroyed catching on things and how many times I have lacerated the back of my neck from it! I so want to pair a big cozy ivory sweater with white jeans, but the winters are here so gross with black slush everywhere that I am fearful of wearing this combination! I guess I need to style that right at the beginning of Fall before the snow comes. Thanks so much for stopping by, Debbie! I always love your comments. They give me a chuckle every time!

  14. Great vest! I don’t blame you that you wore it out of the store!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  15. What an awesome vest!! Love this whole look. The colors are so soft and feminine!

    xx, Elise

  16. Beautiful crochet vest! I purchased an ivory crochet vest this spring and have yet to wear it. You are reminding me I need to pull it out soon. I really like both ways you styled yours, especially with the dress. Very pretty!

    • Thank you, Jennie! Yes, get that thing out and wear it! I want to see how you style so I can get more ideas! I’m thinking it would look fabulous over black which will highlight all the lacy details! Have a wonderful weekend.

  17. Fantastic look!!! Have a lovely weekend! :))

  18. Such a lovely look Shelbee, I love neutrals and this look is clean and fresh! Thanks for hosting and have a great weekend!

  19. Gorgeous vest!

  20. You always find the cutest dusters and cardigans to pair with your looks. This is the perfect casual look for the weekend. Enjoy it and thanks for the linkup!

    • Aw, thank you so much, Candace, for this lovely compliment! I really do love to layer a long duster over my outfits. They make me feel super sassy! Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend!

  21. I adore that vest Shelbee and I like it on both light neutral/pastel outfits. Your dress and Payless sandals are just too cute. I do not like that first necklace either though lol. Keep wearing this pretty light crochet vest for some Bohemian goodness. Thanks for the linkup and enjoy the weekend!

    • Thanks so much, Ada! Haha, that is the best, most honest, non-compliment ever about my necklace! But would you have said that if I hadn’t first expressed how ugly I thought it was?! Hahaha! It really is hideous though, isn’t it? Sometimes I like to add a little grotesque just to grab your attention! I don’t even know what style to call this monstrosity: boho-inspired, southwestern-inspired, Mexican-inspired? I actually do wear it pretty often even in all of its ugliness! And I’m thinking vest over a black dress next time! Have a fabulous weekend!

  22. I love your vest, Shelbee! It’s very nice with the white jeans and with the dress too. 🙂

    Have a nice weekend.

    Greetings from Germany

  34. I love your shoes!! I had those and had to take them back..too scratchy,:/ your vest is so adorable too, great styling!

    Fashion and Travel

    • Thanks, Valerie! Too bad you had to return them…I didn’t have any scratchiness at all. But I did just get a blister on the top of my foot from my Converse (Boo!). Thank you for the kind words! Have a wonderful week.

  35. The very words, “bohemian” and “crochet” (and their derivatives) can send me running, shrieking like a banshee, to the hills. I swear, they were concocted with the sheer purpose of instilling the fear of (sartorial) god in me. I am, however, immensely gifted in the art of recognising when either of these two elements look like the absolute cat’s pajamas on someone else. Case in point – you.

  36. Those pastel colours do really agree with you Shelbee. I am all for mixing and matching and wearing your beautiful west two ways just doubled up your wardrobe options

    • Thank you so much, Anna! I am looking forward to wearing over black next and over long sleeves when the weather cools down a bit. Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!

  37. So comfy and stylish look!

  38. Thanks for the link up, Shelby. Remember, everyone that links up with our mid-week link up in July gets a shot at a $250 Nordstrom gift card.

  39. Great pastels… they work very well on you S.
I recall wearing something similar sometime ago- but then I could not get into the pink jeans.

    • Thanks, Lorena! Oh I am having issues getting into certain jeans lately myself. My corset works wonders for solving that issue but it has been too hot for wearing it. Perhaps I need to hit the treadmill instead! Thanks for stopping by.

  40. Love the cream and white combo but both outfits are great. And this new blog format is fabulous. Thanks for adding your post to my Fine-Whatever link up.

  41. Hi Shelbee
What day is your linkup? I want to support and need to add it to my expanding list ha! I love your darker hair, it looks amazing, and the blue with the crochet so feminine!
Thanks for linking up with Turning heads tuesday
    jess x

    • Thanks so much, Jess! My link up goes live Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. EST. I really appreciate the support. And I am so much more comfortable with my hair darker. I had been dying it black since high school with the occasional trips into redheadville. It is always fun having red hair…but that usually never lasts more than a year and I yearn for my dark hair again. So here it is!

Also, have you seen how gigantic my link up list is? Hahaha! Fabulous Link Ups Where I Link Up
