An Outfit, A Watch, A Movie, and On the Edge of the Week Link Up #9

First, I want to let you all know that this is my 99th blog post! I have something special in mind for my 100th post coming up early next week. And also another special post the following week to celebrate my 1 year blogiversary! So please be sure to check back and see what I have planned!

Now on to this post…

Tuesday night, I escaped all parenting duties and headed to dinner and movie with my friend Aimee. I went for super comfortable in my very distressed and faded boyfriend jeans, a boxy tee, footbed sandals, and a lightweight sweater around my waist in case the movie theater was chilly. I also seized the opportunity to show off my new Churchill Timber Watch that I recently won in a blogger giveaway! I entered a few Timber Watch giveaways and the email never told me which blogger hosted the giveaway that I had won. But thank you to the mystery blogger! I love my new watch!

Outfit details:
Jeans, Tee, and Cardigan: Old Navy (all old).
Sandals: Payless Topaz Woven Footbed Sandals (currently on sale for $15).
Watch: Churchill Timber Watch
Evil Eye Bracelet: Michal Golan.
Bag: Bed|Stu (I have had this bag for a really long time).

My Timber Watch:

A random passerby outside the mall was giving me a thumbs up while I was so awkwardly posing in front of the stone wall! Aimee was so kind as to continue snapping photos!

And the required girls’ night out selfie…

…with my awkwardly placed hand.

We went to see the movie Bad Moms.

My quick review in one paragraph: It was not what I expected. I definitely laughed. A lot. But it was very unrealistic and a tad bit over the top. I guess I expected it to be more about the very real struggles in daily parenting which produce plenty of humor. Perhaps because my children are not yet school-aged (my oldest is just starting kindergarten this Fall) and the premise of the story was based around battles amongst PTA moms, I had really no frame of reference to relate to some it. But the message was much appreciated…that none of us are perfect moms and none of us really know what the hell we are doing in this parenting gig, so we should just stop judging each other and get on with the struggle. Because it is real, people. This struggle is real! Worth watching, for sure. Just a little different from my expectations.

So I have covered the outfit, the watch, and the movie. Now on to the link up.

Thank you to all of the fabulous bloggers who linked up On the Edge of the Week last week! I do apologize if I have not made my way around to each post linked up. Life is getting the best of me lately! But I swear once school starts in a few weeks and my husband is home for good, I will have much more time to commit to checking in with everyone. But please do spread the word about my little link up so we can really get this party off the ground!

And now…here are your favorite links from last week!

Ana’s black and white silk drawstring-waist dress definitely caught a lot of attention. She looks absolutely stunning in this beautiful dress. For more outfit inspiration from Ana, visit her blog Mrs. American Made.

And Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style was a favorite in her ivory crochet dress!

  1. Bad Moms is the perfect movie for a girls night! I’ve only taken photos a few times in public places and always feel awkward so I stick to my back yard. Your relaxed look is so cute and I love the watch you won!

    Doused In Pink

    • Thank you, Jill! At first I was hesitant to take photos in public, but then I was like “eff it”! And I live it such a small town that I kind of feel like a famous person when take photos in public. Ha!

  2. Love this casual cool chick look, Shelbee! Especially that rocker chic chocker! Happy weekend, Girl …

    Dawn Lucy

    • Thank you so much, Dawn Lucy! This choker is really old from Talbots and I wear it often, but now that I have added the tassel to it, I am really loving it!

  3. Love the olive tee with your distressed jeans. It’s always a good idea to take a sweater to the movies, because it does tend to get chilly. Glad you had a great GNO. I’v heard this movie is really funny and I am looking forward to seeing it. Have a wonderful weekend, Shelbee!

    • Thank you so much, Jennie! It was definitely a great night out. I never did need my sweater but I was kind of digging how it looked tied around my waist! I haven’t worn that trend since college, but I am really liking the extra interest it adds.

  4. Congrats on your almost 100th post!

I’m excited to start a two-peat collaboration with Los Angeles-based brand TOBI this week at the blog via a sexy outfit – come check it out & lemme know what you think!

    • Thanks, Laurie! I am planning to give you all a little deeper look at who I am! I am super excited about it! I hope you all enjoy what I am preparing.

  6. I saw that photo on Instagram and loved it! Our best smiles definitely are the spontaneous real ones that we catch by accident. A few months ago in the park a sweet elderly gentleman who was a retired photographer was chatting me up while I took my shots and they were some of my best because the smiles were genuine. Bad Moms looks pretty hilarious…glad you had a great time!

    • Thanks so much, Debbie! It is funny how the spontaneous pictures do capture our best smiles, but then the very next second they capture the most hideous contortions of our faces! Oh, the paradox of it all! Thank goodness for the age of digital images, right?!

I think you will get a kick out of the movie, for sure!

  7. I didn’t realize your kids were that young. I definitely want to go see that movie badly too. I knew it would probably be unrealistic but hilarious nevertheless. Great new watch.

    • Yes, Ada, they are at those ages where they are driving me bonkers, too! We definitely laughed a lot during the movie. Be prepared for lots of vulgarity, too!

  8. Perfect movie look!!! I’m so excited to see this movie!! Trust me PTA moms can be brutal and power hungry!!! Ha!

    • Thank you, Jaymie! And thanks for the warning. As I was watching the movie, I was thinking that this can’t be for real…but now I’m little scared!

  10. I love how your photographer kept taking pictures when you interacted with another shopper. They made for fun photos!

  24. Love the boyfriend jeans, and always a fan of olive, rusts, browns.. Great outfit for the movies. I always bring a jacket as the air is cranked! I havent seen this one, but saw Jason Bourne and OMG I was miserable! It was so bad, all the other Bourne movies I enjoyed.
    Have a great week!
    Thanks for linking up
    jess xx

    • Thanks, Jess! And that is the most horrible thing when you pay for a movie and it turns out horrible! It’s like you feel obligated to stay because you paid all that money for it, but then it’s like torture, too. I have to be so sure of a movie before I commit to seeing it in the theater! Otherwise, I just wait until I can watch it from home for free and that way I can just turn it off if it’s terrible.

  25. It’s fun to have a night out and you looked great doing it.

  26. Hi Shelbee! I wasn’t sure if I should add my party to your linkup but I figured it includes many DIY and some fashion posts.

    • Absolutely, you should add it, Paula! I like checking all sorts of posts from DIY to food to inspirational to parenting and of course, fashion! Link it all up! Thanks for stopping by!

  27. Taking a pose for a photo in a public place could be a challenge sometimes but going out with your girlfriend to a movie is priceless. Love the outfit

    • Thank you, Anna! I hate when strangers watch me posing for pictures! It is so embarrassing. But I am starting to just play around with it and have fun anyway.

The night out was fabulous though!

  28. Great look Shelbee, I love my rip jeans just like yours πŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing at Creative Mondays

    • Thanks so much, Claire! Ripped jeans are my fave…and I just found an old photo of myself wearing “super distressed” jeans in the early 80’s. I will be sharing it in my blogiversary post this Tuesday!
