Weekend Wish List: Dresslily Wigs

This is a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Do you ever wish you could try out a new hairstyle without making a long term commitment? I think we are all a little bit afraid of commitment when it comes to our hair! I know I sure am especially when it comes to changing my hair color. I have been wanting to color it half white and half black (see the photo below), but after a long consultation with my hair stylist, we decided not go forward with the process. My hair is so dark that the time and amount of money it would take to get it to white is just way more than I am willing to commit to or spend.

My hair goals.

But if I could find an inexpensive wig with this contrasting hair color, I could probably be persuaded to make that small investment with absolutely no long term commitment involved. My friend, Cathe of Atypical 60 is quite the expert on wigs. Check out her Instagram for some really adorable wig styles that she showcases. Now Cathe has a lot more knowledge about wigs than I do and she wears higher quality wigs than I would opt for at this point…but only because I am just now (possibly) dabbling in the world of wigs. So I am going to go super cheap at first.

For a beginner in the art of wig wearing, Dresslily has a really great variety of cheaper styles for an initial trial run. However, for those much better versed in wigs, Dresslily also offers higher quality premier wigs. They offer both synthetic and human hair wigs with prices ranging from under $10 upwards to over $300. So if you were ever interested in trying out a new hairstyle in the form of a wig, there is something available for just about any budget.

Now let me share some fun wigs that I might be willing be try!

The good old fashioned bob cut is making a comeback recently just as I have finally grown out my hair to a length that I can wear my favorite low pigtails. My hair is also now long enough to wear chopsticks to create a messy bun. However, I have always been a fan of the bob, but I am not willing to cut off my length that took so long (and so many awkward stages) to finally grow out.  So a wig would be the perfect way to jump back on the bob bandwagon!

2. Short Inclined Fringe Highlighted Straight Bob Synthetic Wig
3. Medium Center Parted Ombre Straight Bob Synthetic Wig
4. Short Side Fringe Straight Bob Synthetic Wig

My entire life I have had a love-hate relationship with super short hair. I will cut it really short on a whim without much forethought. I have even shaved my head completely bald on more than one occasion in my life. Then I immediately begin the painstaking process of growing it back out. Once I get to the length that “I always wanted”, I cut it off again only to repeat the cycle. However, now that I am a bit older, I am getting somewhat more conservative with dramatic decisions regarding my hair. I know that I am much too fickle these days to commit to a super short hair cut. So I’m guessing the next time the mood strikes me to go short, maybe I should try a wig.

My Favorite Short Wigs

1. Short Side Fringe Two Tone Straight Synthetic Wig
2. Short Oblique Bang Layered Natural Straight Synthetic Wig
3. Short Oblique Fringe Straight Colormix Synthetic Wig
4. Short Side Fringe Straight Capless Heat Resistant Synthetic Wig

The girl with the poker straight hair that will never hold a curl has always been envious of the luscious waves on the curly heads of those blessed with natural ringlets. I am that girl, the one with the poker straight hair, and I have basically given up on trying to curl it. But maybe there is a wavy wig in my future!

My Favorite Wavy Wigs

1. Side Part Fluffy Long Wavy Synthetic Wig
2. Medium Length Inclined Fringe Wavy Synthetic Wig
3. Short Side Bang Natural Wavy Colormix Synthetic Wig
4. Short Inclined Bang Ombre Shaggy Wavy Synthetic Wig

Hmmm…I stumbled across this one while I was browsing the wigs on Dresslily. I wonder if it would satiate my craving for black and white hair.  What do you think?

If you have been wanting to try something new with your hair but don’t want to make the commitment, the options are endless with a wig…curly, straight, long, short, layered, choppy, blue, pink, red, blonde, white, gray…the list goes on and on. Happy shopping!

Have you ever worn a wig (other than for a Halloween costume)? What was your experience? Would you ever try a wig if you haven’t yet?

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee

I have always been confused about the mechanics of wigs. How do you keep them on? And what if you lean down, like to look at your toes or something, does it shift forward like a hat? And do they come in sizes? (All of my family has really big heads) And with my big, sweaty head, I bet it would be itchy. I might try one on a cold winter’s day, to keep my head warm. If I did, I would try the red wavy one #4. Although long, stick straight, waist length black hair has always appealed to me, like Cher in the seventies. And if I got a Cher wig, could I put it up with chopsticks in a messy bun? I have some fabulous chopsticks I used to wear, back when I did messy buns. I refuse to get rid of them because they are beautiful. Too hot for me to do a wig, but if you pick one, I wanna see it.

I’ve been having discussions with my niece, the 24 year old hairdresser. I want to let my hair go all gray, and then get blue streaks in it. I have to wait for it to go all gray, instead of the mottled gray it is now, because otherwise, she will have to bleach it first, and she says my hair couldn’t take the rigors of stripping the color and then applying the dye. All I know is, I need blue streaks, preferably sooner. Sigh. If I had Cher hair, I wouldn’t have this problem.

    Good Luck, Shelbee!

Susan, once again…your comment has left me in a fit of giggles! And I do not have any answers to your very good questions! I have never worn a wig myself except maybe once or twice on Halloween and I don’t think I even attempted to make them look natural. But now I am very curious about all of this wig-wearing stuff!

As for chopsticks in a messy bun…YES! I have 3 sets of hair sticks and I have been wearing them a lot lately. Actually, I have some posts coming soon that show my cute little kitty cat ones! I can’t wait for your opinion on them!

Susan, I love your comment and your questions!!! I can only guess wigs are not really comfortable(I ´ve yet to wear one) like many of the things that women use, like high heels. But if it´s only for sporadic use, why not?! I´d gladly wear the green one, it looks so much fun!

I am also glad that wigs exist, because they can be an alternative to people with hair damage.

Thanks for the mention!!!! There’s so much more to wigs—remember to order from a reputable site!! Also, lace-front wigs offer a more realistic hairline! It’s also a good practice to try to stick with a wig that will mimic your own hair when you begin to wear wigs! My bio hair is coarse and wiry so many of my wigs are Yaki textured!
But the most important thing is that I thank you for being on board to normalize wigs!!!!!

Cathe, thank you so much for sharing your tips on wigs! I love reading your posts about wigs, but other than that, they have really been completely off my radar. Then Dresslily asked me to share a post about wigs, so I figured I would give it a go. I am clearly a novice with not much knowledge at all about what constitutes a good quality wig…therefore, I defer to you, my friend, as the expert! So I really appreciate your comment! I am going to send any reader questions your way!

Cathe is the best!!!! I want her to pick a wig for me, she wears them so well! I would love to have one to throw on when my hair – even my helper hair- just isn’t looking good. The styles you shared here are all so beautiful! How fun!

Kellyann, I agree with you on all of this! I think we should persuade Cathe to do a wig workshop for all of us interested in the ins and outs of choosing a wig and wearing them! What do you think? Of course, she does this on her blog, but I am talking about a real life blogger meet up…because I love real life blogger meet ups!

OOoooh the first thing I thought when I saw this post was Cathe! And it you want half white half/black hair (wouldnt that be amazing) Id happily donate my white hair – sadly however it is short and messy and still attached to my head (but white) 🙂 Hmmm I am sure I saw someone else discussing wigs the other day, I think it was MiddleAgedWarrior, who is hilarious and very fabulous, yep think it was her. Love your ideas – you and Cathe are making wigs very desirable and seriously worth thinking about

Juliet, thanks so much for the generous offer of your white hair! Ha. Too cute. Maybe one day when I just go natural gray/white, I will dye one half of my head black! And as soon as Dresslily asked me to write a post about wigs, I immediately thought of Cathe! She is a genius when it comes to this topic…I am merely sharing what “looks” cute to me! Heading over to check out Middle-Aged Warrior now! Thanks for the recommending her!
