Shelbee’s Note: No matter how old I get, there always seems to be somebody getting married. I used to think that once all my friends were married in our 20’s and 30’s that I would never be invited to a wedding again. But as the generations of family members and children of friends grow older, I find myself still being invited to these momentous occasions where two lovers unite in holy matrimony. And who doesn’t love a wedding, getting dressed up, having a party, celebrating love? If any of you readers are in the planning stages for your own wedding or that of a loved one, check out these 5 tips for creating the most memorable of special days.

5 Top Trends for an Unforgettable Wedding in 2019

2019 brides are all looking for the same thing – a wedding that everyone will be talking about long after the honeymoon has begun! The biggest wedding trends of 2019 all lean toward elements of individuality rather than uniformity. If you’re looking to try and stand out while being a little different from everyone else, we’ve got you covered!

Polka Party!

One of the biggest bridal looks to come out of the runways for wedding gowns is the re-emergence of polka dots. You will not only see them on veils but wedding dresses as well! The cool thing about polka dots is they can look very old Hollywood chic or retro-cool, depending on the style of wedding dress you choose. For example, mermaid wedding dresses would look amazing if you are looking to pull off an old-world glam look.

If you are not a fan of wearing polka dots but love how cute they are, why not try them for wedding favors instead for a bit of a twist?

All About The Veil

You can thank Megan Markle for this 2019 trend. Veils are back with a bang! From short, pretty veils with gorgeous little patterns, to trains that seem to go on forever, a 2019 wedding dress will not be complete without an attention-seeking veil! If you are looking to have a royal wedding, cathedral style veil, these are best suited to floor-length or train gowns such as mermaid wedding dresses. Wearing long veils with short wedding dresses can look a little bit like a 1990’s rock music video!

Customization

Customization will be a huge part of weddings in 2019. From hand-made table placeholders and food stations with bespoke creations for each guest, 2019 will say good-bye to uniformity or patterns in weddings. Brides that aren’t into arts and crafts will likely be scouring Etsy pages to try and find unique items to decorate their wedding venue with. Think of a natural look minus the hobo, which was never all that chic to begin with!

Mix & Match

Picking a firm color scheme has been a consistent wedding trend for many years now, but that is all about to change. In keeping with the more natural look of weddings, 2019 will see a movement toward mixing different colors together. You might see this in beautifully colorful flower arrangements or bridesmaids dresses of different colors and designs, looking deliberately unrelated. The colors won’t clash; instead, they will complement one another to set the atmosphere for the evening such as pastels to soften the mood, or bright colors to liven things up!

Sustainability Is Here To Stay

Love it, hate it, believer or not, the trend toward sustainability is here to stay, and we will see even more rapid movement toward it in 2019. From in-season flowers to avoid refrigeration and hothouses, to digital invitations and RSVP’s, 2019 unions are about showing your friends and family you care about the world around you. Wasteful and greedy approaches are definitely out of fashion!

Thanks, Julie! It’s actually kind of funny when I get invited to a wedding, I usually dread it at first because even just as a guest it involves planning and travel and money spent. But then once I get there, I always have a blast! And it is always fun to see the personal twists that couples put on their special day.

It is odd how you think you will stop attending weddings at a certain age but NO – I’ve had years where I’ve had 7 weddings to attend to ! But i will not complain as I know what it’s like to have to make a wedding guest list and it’s quite an honor to make it there, so I always attend.
I like the idea of mismatch Michelle!
I already attender the first wedding of the year – it was impeccable. The setting was a beach and gold club.

Lorena, thanks so much for reading and sharing your enthusiasm for weddings! I guess I should embrace the excitement more when I do make the guest list for someone’s special day! You have definitely changed my perspective. I do love to see how couples make the day their own. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!
