I have been riding the sartorial struggle bus for a few weeks now. I cannot seem to find the motivation to get dressed or to take photos on the rare occasions when I do put on something other than leggings and an oversized sweater or fleece. After my morning shower, I generally reach straight for my workout gear with some extra layers for warmth and comfort. This way whenever the mood strikes me to do some yoga, I just need to strip off the top layers and get straight to some downward dog.

I suppose I could start photographing my workout wear. At least it’s something! I did just score two new pairs of workout leggings on Old Navy clearance that I am kind of loving. They have pockets. I am a big fan of leggings with pockets. And for the $6 price tag on both pairs, I simply could not leave them behind in the store.

But enough about the leggings. I will talk about them if I ever decide to share them here. This post is about my new tiger sweatshirt and these fun brick red jogger style pants from Torrid clearance. When my sister was visiting last week, she wanted me to take her shopping at Torrid. She had never been to that store and I knew she would love their clothing. So we headed off to the mall and spent two hours trying on just about everything in the clearance section. They were having a major sale event and all clearance items were Buy One, Get Two Free. My favorite kind of clearance event!

Torrid is one of my favorite places to shop retail. The sales staff at my local store is amazing. Always super friendly and accommodating and they always make sure you get the best sales deals possible. They are one of the few stores that will combine multiple discounts including the 10% military discount they offer daily. They also always offer an additional 5% off your purchase if you use your Torrid credit card and another 10% off if you do the surveys from previous purchases. As you accrue points, you also receive Torrid rewards which is basically free money to spend. During certain times, you also earn Torrid cash when you shop which is issued in increments of $25 off a $50 purchase (similar to Old Navy super cash except it’s 50% off rather than the 40% offered by Old Navy). I am all about the best deals especially when I shop retail. Who doesn’t love getting the best deal?

The end result after all the discounts…the tiger sweatshirt was $10.25 (original price was $45.50) and the cropped pants were $9.10 (original price was $55.50).

For some reason, this tiger print makes me really happy. I think it is the green eyes of the tiger that draw me in. The tiger looks so kind and friendly and brings me a sense of calm and happiness. And I really like the cool cozy pairing with these cropped joggers and clunky combat boots. I liked it so much, in fact, that I wore this outfit on two consecutive days. I didn’t photograph it the first day that I wore it which is really what prompted me to wear it again. The sweatshirt is super soft and the pants have an elastic waistband with a drawstring for maximum comfort and perfect fit. I have a feeling these pants will be on constant repeat this spring and summer with cute graphic tees and sneakers or sandals.

As for the rest of my outfit, these combat boot are a new acquisition from Shoe Dazzle. They are really comfortable and sturdy and I am loving the lug sole. They are also currently on sale for just $15. If you have not joined Shoe Dazzle yet, you should! They have a wonderful selection of fun footwear and some really great sales a few times a year. I am not a Shoe Dazzle affiliate but if you use my friend link to join, I do earn some extra cash to spend on new shoes for myself!

My tan quilted coat is rather old. I do recall buying it at Burlington Coat Factory here in Watertown, New York, but it was probably the first winter I lived here which was 2013. Although this coat has been around for a while, I don’t wear it often because the color is not the best with my complexion. But it worked great with the gray sweatshirt and brick red pants and it is the perfect weight for this slow transition to warmer weather. It is the first time that I am sharing this coat here.

Haha…tiger face!

What have you been wearing lately? Has it been a struggle for you as well? I think I just need some of this awful snow to melt to get me motivated for style! Bring on the sunshine and the springtime!

When it’s cold all I want to do after I shower is put on cozy clothes too so I am very familiar with the struggle bus to get dressed. It has been heating up here and I can tell it influences my fashion choices because I am getting excited to go into the closet again!
I cannot believe the deals you scored at Torrid – buy one get two free? Yes, please! Your tiger tee is fantastic and you’ll wear it with so much, such a steal. Love the pants too and they couldn’t work any better with those combat boots.
Have the best weekend sweet friend!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! I am longing for some warmer weather to get me excited to get dressed again. But it is currently -6 degrees here so it will have to be cozies all day long again today! Isn’t that a crazy clearance event at Torrid? I have never seen any other retailer do that but Torrid has that sale often. I think it is only certain stores that do it when they have too much sale inventory in order to move it out quicker. But hey, I’ll help them move it out quicker if they are offering buy one, get two free! My sister and I left with a total of 5 giant shopping bags! I hope you have a lovely weekend as well, my friend.

You should see me right now. Friday is my cleaning day and I can’t be bothered the past Friday s with putting some clothes on. Cleaning the house al day in my bathrobe. Worst thing is that I also haven’t washed my face and brushed my teeth….. so you are not alone there!!

  • Jill

It’s been so cold this winter, it’s hard not to want to wear leggings and workout gear. Your tiger sweatshirt is so fun! Love the color of your joggers too! Such a cute look! Enjoy your weekend!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Jill! It was the color of these pants that sold me. Then when I put them on and they were so comfy, I kind of wanted more pairs but they only had this color. I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend!

Even though I have been really pushing myself to make an effort lately, I still often reach for comfortable & cozy so you’re not alone. This look is the perfect combo. It’s comfy, cozy AND cool with a little bit of edge. I love the tiger too! Lately I’ve been drawn to graphic sweatshirts for some reason & I didn’t really have any.
Have a fabulous weekend my friend! xo

Thanks so much, Debbie! As much as I am enjoying cute, cozy, and comfortable, I am longing for the days when dressing up was a normal daily thing! Graphic sweatshirts were never really something that caught my attention and this bold tiger face print is something I normally would never look twice at. But there is something really special about the tiger’s eyes that soothes me and makes me happy. If a piece of clothing can make me feel emotion like that, then I guess I need to have it! I need to style this with a girly skirt, Debbie-style, next time I wear it! Have a great weekend!

Love your combat boots. Keep thinking I need a pair like this. Coincidentally have posted on IG today about my lack of motivation in dressing up these days. Relaxed dressing rules!

I just read combat boots will continue to have a strong moment in the years to come. They’re so much better than sneakers, don’t you think? Love the high ponytail!

It’s been an important week for you and your family. Many congratulations on your husband’s retirement! I think many of us are suffering from the end of winter blues, and lack of motivation to get dressed. Collectively waiting for the renewal or spring and warmer weather! Love your great new bargain purchases at Torred-that tiger sweatshirt is so fun!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Di, thank you so much! It has been a fun filled and exciting week, for sure. Now I need lots of recovery time! The winter blues seem so much worse this year with no where to escape the solitude of my home. I think spring is going to be very enthusiastically welcomed by all! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

    RAWR!
You know that you NEED tiger leggings now. Or zebra. Bwahahahaha

Anyhoo, I’m all about the comfy sweater/leggings outfit. You are correct. It does not need photo documentation. I upgraded to a most cloud soft alpaca handknit that I found on Etsy. We’ll see how it responds to my harsh treatment (will it pill?). For leggings, I went on a Poshmark shopping spree and bought 4 (or 5?) Lularoe crazy leggings from various Poshers. They are super soft and STRETCHY. Haha.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Anne! I totally had to do the “rawr” photo wearing this sweatshirt! Haha. And now you have me thinking I need tiger and zebra leggings! Lularoe leggings are super soft! I only have one pair of them though. The local consignment shop where I used to work apparently has a whole ton of new Lularoe pieces for $2 each! But you probably don’t need anymore since your Poshmark shopping spree! I hope your new Etsy sweater holds up for you. It sounds lovely!

“But you probably don’t need anymore…” ARE YOU KIDDING?!!!!!!! Haha.
If you are feeling bold, see what they have in TC size (because the One Size is a size Small) and snap a picture. You can be my Upstate Lularoe enabler. I still have a box of treasure to mail you. But the USPS lines! Ack!

Rumor has it that my niece’s wedding will be in Utica in September (she had to cancel last year’s plans and in the meantime is pregnant!). I MIGHT road trip out, because, DAMN, I want to escape from LA. Also, she said she wants the Bray heirloom china and I’m thinking the best way to get it to her is via Prius. We shall see.

Sorry to respond so slowly. Gemini brain dialed up to 11.

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

OMG, you are so funny! Of course, you need more! What was I thinking? If I venture down to that store, I will certainly take some photos for you! I am still a little hesitant about visiting too many shops…people are still just too much for my anxiety. I just did a little happy dance in my head over you coming to Utica for your niece’s wedding. I agree that the Bray heirloom china would be best transported by Prius and when you do get out this way, we are definitely meeting up somewhere! By the way, my Gemini brain is on the verge of mass destruction…Ugh. Humaning just keeps getting harder!

What a perfect casual outfit! I’m really loving the color of the pants! Torrid does sound like a great store for shopping retail! I’ve never been to one, I don’t even know if they exist here in the Midwest (maybe in the larger cities). But if I ever do come across one I’ll be sure to stop in!

Thanks so much, Ellie! I am not sure how far Torrid stores span across the US, but they are a plus size store so I don’t think you would find much to fit you anyway! Their sizes range from 10-30. I am 5’7″ and weigh about 185 pounds and I wear a 10/12 in Torrid sizes. It is a such a great store though. And the quality of their products is really great, too. No wonder that tee called to you! You are right there is something about the tiger face and eyes that stands it apart from other tiger tees I have seen. Those pants will definitely be a workhorse in your closet too. Burgundy pants are fun and I need to wear mine more often. Hope sun and warmth will come early to your part of the country!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Mireille! There really is something soothing about this tiger’s face that is different from other tiger face prints. I don’t know what it is, but there is a soft kindness to the eyes or something. I am very excited about these pants, too. I wish they had other colors because I probably would have bought more. Thanks, Joanne! So Torrid is a plus size store with sizes ranging from 10-30. They were first opened in 2001 and currently have over 600 retail locations in 36 states and one store in Canada (Toronto). I discovered this store from blogging and then realized we had a store in our mall and I have been a huge fan ever since! I worked there for a while which was a lot of fun, too, but the retail hours just were not conducive to raising kids with a husband in the military. So I have a great rapport with the sales staff at my store which makes even more fun to shop there! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Love this casual look. Fabulous boots! I’m increasingly finding it harder to get properly ready as there’s not a lot of reasons to. I’m hoping the Spring and lifting of restrictions will bring my old self back – may have to search a little. Enjoy your weekend. xx

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Alison! These boots are currently my most frequently worn footwear. They are perfect for all the sludgy muddy snow mess that will be here for a while now. I, too, am hopeful that once Spring arrives, some restrictions will lift, and I can begin the search for my old self as well. Hang in there, my friend, we will get through this! I love a good bargain – so much so that I usually tell everyone. Once a friend said – you don’t have to tell everything you know. My response – “How cheap it was is the best part!”.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my gosh, Lauren, I am exactly the same way! I love sharing when I find great deals! If I didn’t score the best deal, I don’t think I would even talk about the price of things. How cheap it was really is the best part! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

I have days like that too, Shelbee, where it’s just too much to get dressed “up”. But, for me anyway, if I can tidy myself and pop on a small amount of makeup, I do then feel more positive. I feel that we do have those times in life, and for some of us (me) they are cyclical. iFor me, again, just knowing that this is my pattern, does help make it easier. Hope you’re on the up soon (probably already are xxxx)

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Ratnamurti! I actually do put on make up nearly every day whether I am dressed and leaving the house or in leggings and planted on the couch all day. At least when I glance in the mirror then, I feel a bit more alive than if I had not made that 5 minute effort! I am planning to get dressed today and take some outfit photos. I am just hoping the sartorial magic is working inside my closet today! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

I agree with all the ladies that it’s “that time of year.” Winter just seems too long and I think we are all ready for some warmth and sun. Growing up, some in Michigan, and some in Southern California, I had a super hard time in Michigan at this time of year. My need for sunlight is pretty high, and maybe yours is, too. Nonetheless, you always LOOK super adorable in your photos! I love the tiger tee! I was principal of the “Nelson Tigers” and we had so much fun with our tiger mascot!! Who could resist those proud elegant images, right? Hang in there–spring really is coming!

    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thank you so much! It is definitely “that time of year” when the winter blues seem to be hanging on a bit too long. And I think it is aggravated by the fact that there is no where to go and not much do in this pandemic time. Once the weather warms a bit, I can at least start walking the boys to school instead of driving them and we can all get a nice healthy dose of fresh air and sunshine on the daily. I love that your mascot was a tiger! I never had any cool mascots anywhere I went to school…I was a Wilson Warrior, then a Freedom Patriot, then a Lehigh Engineer (which are now the Lehigh Mountain Hawks). I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

Oh, and by the way, go through your closet and pull out some wild and vibrant color–doesn’t matter if it’s sweats or a dress! I honestly believe color can truly lift our spirits! Give it a shot, my friend.

    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Darlene! I agree with you that vibrant colors definitely boost the spirits! I just scooped up some colorful cozy sweaters on Old Navy clearance (as well as that adorable camo funnel neck fleece that you have)! The colors and prints do cheer me…I have been wearing the same oversized rose colored sweater for three days straight now! I think I will wash it today and actually get dressed for some photos. Happy weekend!

I am so ridiculous when I shop though…I have no problem dropping like $200 in a store as long as I leave with bags full of stuff, but I can never get myself to splurge $200 on some high quality wish list item. I have accepted the fact that I am a clothing hoarder and I like to have lots of cute things at my disposal every day. Ha. I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

First off, I have no issue with people sharing their casual clothing, including lounge ware. For most part that’s what a lot of us are wearing. It’s real. And I think this comfy outfit is super adorable!

I haven’t been so much sartorially challenged, because we’ve been visiting my mom several times per week, and I have to wear something. But I have challenged about keeping a blog schedule. My projects (quilting, jewelry, etc) just don’t seem to fit in weekly blog bites, and although I’m ahead on outfit pics, I often find myself with little to say. I’ve decided to post when the spirit moves me. It was hard not to feel like some kind of failure when I made that decision, but I’ve gotten over it.

Thanks so much, Michelle! I had a few good weeks in there where I felt super inspired and was creating some fun outfits and then it is like I hit a wall. I was in the same place as you where I had photos stored up but really nothing to say. It is hard to create content when I never leave my house and I am certain y’all are probably tired of hearing about it! Haha. I was looking over my schedule as well and decided even if I only post my two link up posts per week along with my monthly collaboration group posts, I am still posting 15 plus times per month and that is where I am going to leave it for now. If the spirit moves me and I find something interesting to say, I will write it. Otherwise, I may possibly just talk about the clothes. Good thing I enjoy clothes and can talk about them. Haha. I hope you have a fabulous weekend, my friend. May our inspiration return again soon!

Thanks, Grace! For some reason, as casual as this outfit is, I felt great wearing it. And that is a total win in my book right now with so little sartorial motivation going on. Your outfit is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing! The pants, boots, sweater and your hair! OMG! I would wear this to work. I work in a high school and I know for a fact my students would love it! GAH!! Too bad it’s hot now here and I have pretty much transitioned into summer clothes LOL!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Natalie, thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your beautiful daughter with us! I was such a skater girl when I was a teenager and I really loved seeing how the skater girl style has evolved from 30 plus years ago! She is rocking that look and I really love that she actually skates, too! I never did, I just went to the skate parks and watched back when skate parks were a brand new thing!

Very cute sweatshirt Shelbee! It looks great paired with your boots. Actually I am a fan of this entire look. I can also relate being on the struggle bus. I am not creative to begin with and spending all my energy towards my family lately just leaves me so drained at the end of the day. It is a real challenge. So hang in there! One day at a time right?

I like the red pants with the graphic top, it’s a fun combination! 🙂 I’ve been finding if I take a few moments on the weekend to sit in my wardrobe I can come up with a few outfit ideas for the week ahead – nothing ground-breaking, just looking at things I want to wear and try together and I end up taking tons of pics with outfit ideas I can wear that upcoming week or pull out when I’m uninspired 🙂

Hope you had a good weekend 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Mica, thank you so much! I did so much shopping with my sister last weekend that I have tons of new stuff to wear and share. Now I need the weather to cooperate especially because I have to start taking my own photos again with a remote and tripod. It’s so hard to rig everything in the mountains of snow and ice! Jeff’s new internship hours do not fit his photographer schedule with me! Haha. Maybe I will go play in my closet room this week though and let the inspiration find me that way! Thanks for the suggestion. Have a wonderful week, my friend!

Thank you, Sheila! I think the fierce tiger made me feel fierce, too, and that’s maybe why I love this sweatshirt so much! It is the business of not leaving the house ever that is having the biggest negative impact on my desire to get dressed. It has definitely been a long, difficult winter for me as I’m sure it has been for so many others. A little sunshine will do us all some good!

      xoxo
