Where Aztec Meets New York & Link Up On the Edge #72

I will be the first to admit that I am not a huge fan of tribal prints. I’m not exactly sure what it is about the geometric shapes and lines that are traditional in this type of pattern, but it just does not appeal to me. I have wondered before on my blog what exactly it is that draws certain people to certain prints and patterns. Even colors, too.

*This poncho was gifted to me by Zaful in exchange for this post. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

I realized that one particular quality in a print that tends to bother me is complete symmetry. I prefer a little more abstract and asymmetry in a pattern. For example, I love florals, dots, paisleys, tweeds, animal prints, and any other sort of wild, crazy pattern out there. There is something too harsh in geometric prints and patterns that seems to create sort of an uneasy feeling in me.

*Poncho: Vintage Geometry Rhombus Tassel Pashmina Poncho – Coffee. Unfortunately, this poncho is sold out. But check their other tribal inspired ponchos here.

But on the flip side of that, I do adore stripes, herringbone, houndstooth, and plaids. All of which consist of hard angles as inherent in the nature of those prints. But triangles and big squares and zig zags and chevrons? Yuk, I say. I just don’t like them.

But when I was asked to choose an item from Zaful, something kept pulling me back to this Vintage Geometry Rhombus Tassel Pashmina Poncho. For some reason, the name of it bothers me…all those math words in there seem to damper my creativity! But the beautiful pops of turquoise stripes caught my eye.  Or maybe it was the soft coffee color accented with black that drew me in. I’m not really sure. But I was really digging this poncho despite its name, so I went for it.

It is super soft and cozy and kind of perfect for a mild fall or winter day. The turquoise is so vibrant and cheerful that it totally added a little extra bounce to my step. Then to make it even better, I had this amazing turquoise medallion statement necklace that has been hanging around my life completely neglected for years. And now the icing on this tribal inspired cake, these teal velvet paisley booties from Shoe Dazzle. Velvet, paisleys, block heels, and teal…now that is speaking my sartorial language!

What better way to tie together velvet paisley and a tribal print then my favorite faux leather pants and my new Jord watch. It’s like Aztec meets New York in some sort of tribal-city fusion! While I was doubtful about the tribal print trend, I think I discovered my way own of wearing it: with a little bit of leather, a splash of velvet, a floppy hat, a hint of edginess, and a pinch of sass!
