What to Wear to a Summer Wedding with DressLily & Link Up On the Edge #52

It is summer wedding season and although I do not have any open invitations this year, my brother-in-law is getting married next May.  In preparation for that event, I have been trying out some different dress options.  My boys will both be in the wedding all decked out in their little tuxedos and most likely not on their best behavior. I’m sure I will have to intervene and assist them at some point, putting me directly in the spotlight for at least a moment, since it is a natural human instinct to look at the parents of the rowdy children and wonder what the hell kind of mother allows their children to act so obnoxiously at a formal event! So, I need to at least look like I’ve got my shit together. I also need adequate coverage so I don’t expose my nether-regions while bending and squatting to reprimand the little tuxedo-clad beasts!

I recently ordered this teal lace dress from DressLily as one option. It is available in four colors and my husband chose the teal for me as he is a huge fan of blue tones. Also, he will be all decked out in his dress blues for the wedding and teal paired with the regal colors of his uniform will make a striking combination.

This wedding is going to be a formal evening event, so I chose to accessorize the teal with black. I chose a black cardigan for an extra layer if needed and black seamed thigh high stockings with black strappy, sparkly heels…because you all know how I love those little edgy details! I do have black shape wear shorts underneath in case the wind or the children get hold of my dress! A small black clutch and subtle black jewelry complete the look so as not to detract from the rich vibrant color and lace details of the dress.  This is the sort of dress that stands quite well on its own without the need for extravagant accessories.

For a day time wedding that may be more casual, I could certainly opt for bare legs and nude sandals and perhaps a sheer, lightweight wrap for my shoulders. Diamonds or pearls would pair nicely with that look.

I suppose I should share some other dresses with you that I have acquired with this upcoming wedding in mind. Stay tuned for those in the coming weeks.
