Two Days of Spring/Summer in the North Country

Here in the northern reaches of New York State near the Canadian border the winters are long and the spring/summer seasons seem to last merely a few days. Well, not really, but it sure can feel that way sometimes. And I’m not complaining, really, just stating the facts. Those who know me or have read previous posts know that I don’t mind the cold and chilly air of fall, winter, and spring in the North Country. And I don’t much like the heat. At all. In fact, once we creep upwards of 68 degrees or so, I start to get a little bit miserable. 70 degrees is just too hot for me. Ideally, I would love to live in a place where the temperatures stayed between 40 and 65 degrees all year round. Does such a place exist?

Here we are, right smack in the middle of the month of May, the springiest season of all seasons in the northern hemisphere, right? Well, in this part of the northern hemisphere, it’s been mostly rainy and cool with high temperatures right where I like them…between the 40s and 60s. Except one freaky day last week when we actually hit a high of 81 degrees. I was happy as I had FINALLY discovered some shorts that I actually like on myself and I wanted to wear them! I was unhappy, however, because I really was too flipping hot. But as I sit here writing this post a few days later, it is back to rain and clouds with a high today of 46 degrees. I am comfortable in pants and long sleeves and my fuzzy slippers.

But I digress. On to the shorts. My Instagram followers seemed to like my shorts as much as I do. See them. Smile at the cheerful pattern on them. Love them.

Normally, I don’t like my entire outfit to be from the same store. I feel boring when I do that. But both the sweater and shorts are from the New York & Company Outlet. I like the deep blue with the colorful pattern, but you could pair any color of your choosing with them and they would be equally awesome! I wasn’t sure at first of the high heeled sandals with such short shorts. I felt a little sassy, maybe a little too much leg, but then I thought, “What the hell? My legs are my favorite part of me. I’m gonna draw attention to them and strut out there with confidence!” So I did. Right to preschool to drop off my son! Then I went home and switched to flat sandals before picking him up and standing on the playground for half an hour. Sometimes function just has to come before fashion! It’s a mom’s life…

Do you have something in your closet that you have been dying to wear but the weather just won’t cooperate?

Keeping it on the edge,
