Two Days of Spring/Summer in the North Country

Here in the northern reaches of New York State near the Canadian border the winters are long and the spring/summer seasons seem to last merely a few days. Well, not really, but it sure can feel that way sometimes. And I’m not complaining, really, just stating the facts. Those who know me or have read previous posts know that I don’t mind the cold and chilly air of fall, winter, and spring in the North Country. And I don’t much like the heat. At all. In fact, once we creep upwards of 68 degrees or so, I start to get a little bit miserable. 70 degrees is just too hot for me. Ideally, I would love to live in a place where the temperatures stayed between 40 and 65 degrees all year round. Does such a place exist?

Here we are, right smack in the middle of the month of May, the springiest season of all seasons in the northern hemisphere, right? Well, in this part of the northern hemisphere, it’s been mostly rainy and cool with high temperatures right where I like them…between the 40s and 60s. Except one freaky day last week when we actually hit a high of 81 degrees. I was happy as I had FINALLY discovered some shorts that I actually like on myself and I wanted to wear them! I was unhappy, however, because I really was too flipping hot. But as I sit here writing this post a few days later, it is back to rain and clouds with a high today of 46 degrees. I am comfortable in pants and long sleeves and my fuzzy slippers.

But I digress. On to the shorts. My Instagram followers seemed to like my shorts as much as I do. See them. Smile at the cheerful pattern on them. Love them.

Normally, I don’t like my entire outfit to be from the same store. I feel boring when I do that. But both the sweater and shorts are from the New York & Company Outlet. I like the deep blue with the colorful pattern, but you could pair any color of your choosing with them and they would be equally awesome! I wasn’t sure at first of the high heeled sandals with such short shorts. I felt a little sassy, maybe a little too much leg, but then I thought, “What the hell? My legs are my favorite part of me. I’m gonna draw attention to them and strut out there with confidence!” So I did. Right to preschool to drop off my son! Then I went home and switched to flat sandals before picking him up and standing on the playground for half an hour. Sometimes function just has to come before fashion! It’s a mom’s life…

  2. I love the print on these shorts, they will go with everything!

    • Thanks so much, Julie! I had a difficult time choosing which color to accent when choosing a shirt. I think I may go with the turquoise next…or maybe basic black or white.

  3. Love these! Such a fun pattern. πŸ™‚

  4. Such cute shorts! You look great, and so summery. xo

  5. Your shorts are fantastic!-sort of a 60’s-70’s vibe to me. And that blue-for here it looks Cobalt, which is my favorite tone of blue. And it has been cold all this week in Missouri with last night dipping to 39 degrees.

    • Thank you, Terri! They are very retro looking, aren’t they? I love cobalt blue as well. I think this sweater has a little bit more purple undertone in it. I wish these super cold temperatures would just go away for a little while. I am tired of needing a coat!

  6. Well, hey there, Shelbee! So nice to meet you. Thanks for stopping by my blog. You’re a cutie! Love the sassy shorts.

  7. Really loving the fun print of these shorts!

  10. Love those fun shorts! I feel the same way about heeled sandals with shorts, like I am showing too much leg, but you know what? In my outfit photos I really like how it looks! I think it looks fabulous on you and it is really just in our heads! πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Laura! I’m so glad to know that I’m not alone on that one! But I did feel pretty good about the heels once I got out of my head and put on my “fake” confidence!

  11. Love these shorts and I adore those sandals! Hurray for freaky warm weather. πŸ™‚

  16. Those shorts are so fun! I love the mix of bright and bold colors. Our weather right now is in between the 40s and 60s, and truth be told is just a touch cold for me! When we wake up, it’s in the 30s, and that doesn’t make for an enjoyable car ride:).

    • Thanks, Emily! Yeah, 30s in the morning is a little too cold for me as well..especially in May! I do enjoy warm weather, too, but by September I am ready for Fall!

  17. These vibrant patterned shorts truly ARE fab, dear Shelbee…and I bet they looked just as chic with your flat sandals as they do here with those heels!! But I’m afraid we’re not on the same page as far as the weather goes; I’m a “summer girl” through and through…which means it very rarely gets too hot for me!! πŸ˜‰ P.S. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and saying “hello!!”

    • Thank you, Monika! The shorts were cute with flat sandals. I should have taken a photo after I changed shoes. Next time, I will remember! Hopefully, warm comes soon and stays for a little while at least!

  18. These are some cool shorts ! You can wear anything with these, great colours and design. Our weather is up and down like yours here in London, just not as hot ! Laurie x

    • Thank you, Laura! I have a feeling these shorts will get a lot of wear because of the many different tops I can pair with them. This weather is so strange lately, but it is starting to look like Spring is here to stay now.

  26. I enjoy wearing shorts in the summer too Shelbee, and there are times here in Charlotte it goes from winter to summer. We had mid to high 80 degree days, where I could wear shorts. Been raining all week and cooler, so the weather is unpredictable. Love the fun pattern, very colorful and your shoes too, I think the length is just right, show off those legs!
Thanks for linking up with Turning Heads Tuesday!

    • Thank you, Jess! I guess I shouldn’t complain too much about the fickle weather since I am just as fickle! At least it gives me the chance to change up my fashion choices every single day! And I kind of like that.

  30. Loving those shoes! My sister in law lives in Junea, AK and that might just be the place for you during the summer, haha! Have a great week Shelbee!

    • Thank you, Kayla! I think I would probably love AK! But then the sun rises at 4 am and sets at 10 pm. I don’t know if I can handle that much daylight! Although, I suppose it’s not that much different from where I live… Thanks for stopping by!
