Thrifted in Fall Layers & Thursday Moda Link Up

Last week, I co-hosted with Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood for her Thursday Moda Link Up and we had such an amazing turn out that she asked me to co-host with her again! I am so honored, Ada. Thank you. In a few weeks, Ada is also going to co-host my Friday Link Up On the Edge. So be sure to stop by and check it out! Thank you all so much for your continued love and support.

If you are not familiar with Ada, let me tell you a little about her…Ada has been writing the blog Elegance and Mommyhood for the past 4 years. She focuses on affordable everyday style for casual stay-at-home mom days, polished work looks, weekend wear and everything in between. Ada also features her adorable daughter Vivian in her Mommy and Me Style posts. She is a firm believer that style and elegance do not have to cost a fortune and shopping your closet is always a great idea. So in the interest of budgeting and being frugal, we decided to style Fall Layers with thrifted pieces this week.

When I was younger (like high school younger), I used to love thrift shopping to find crazy, unique pieces that no one else had. I liked to stand out in a crowd, for sure! And the thrift shop was the place to find such things. Recently, my fascination with picking through thrift store racks has been renewed and I have been scoring some pretty amazing stuff for super cheap (even after adding in the cleaning costs). Maybe you remember my post Do You Think I Have a Scarf Problem? which showcased a pretty hefty haul of scarves from my local thrift shop.

Lately, when I shop at my local Salvation Army Family Store, I focus on a few specific things that I am needing or wanting. It is very easy to get overwhelmed when you walk in and see row upon row of racks jammed with all sorts of items. So if I narrow my search down to one or two categories, I can focus on just those areas in my search. And one thing I had been really wanting but was not willing to pay the ticket price was a leather jacket. Back in June on a thrift shop trip, I found this perfectly broken-in chocolate brown Wilson’s Leather jacket for $8! I went on a Wednesday which is Family Day and most items are 50% off. Although, I would have paid the ticket price of $16 for this fabulous jacket anyway, but you can’t beat $8!

On the same trip, I had been searching for midi skirts and dresses and I found this adorable green paisley midi skirt. There is no label in it, but for a mere $3, why would I care?! I thought the dark brown of the jacket and the forest green of the skirt would pair beautifully to create a hip autumn look. Then I added one of the neckerchiefs from my scarf haul thrift trip.

I loved the easy casual look of a light chambray shirt tied at the waist. I completed the look with a pair of fringe flatform sandals and a faux leather backpack, both of which I grabbed on clearance from Target during the end of summer sales. I think it created a great back-to-school look, too, if I were someone who was going back to school! But a girl can pretend, right?
