The Holiday Series: What to Wear for New Year’s Eve

As we bring 2017 to a close, I am so honored to be joining these eight fabulous women in a celebration of new beginnings with our style inspiration for ringing in the year 2018. This is the sixth and final post in The Holiday Series, a multi-blogger collaboration that has been so creatively orchestrated by the very stylish and energetic Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood. Without further adieu, here is what I have decided to wear for New Year’s Eve. Be sure to keep scrolling for the stylish inspirations of my eight wonderful blogging friends.

*This is a sponsored post. This dress was provided to me for purposes of this blog post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

*Dress: c/o Sassy My Prom. Similar lingerie inspired dresses here, here, here, and here.

I was recently inspired by a guest post on my own blog to try out the pajama dressing trend. So when Sassy My Prom sent me this dress to review, I was excited by its lingerie inspired style with the burgundy and black lace.

Remaining consistent with the lingerie theme, I added a black lace kimono with velvet trim for an extra layer, creating a bit more interest and providing some extra coverage. I scored this pretty kimono on a $15 sale at Charlotte Russe back at the end of summer.

*Kimono: Charlotte Russe. Similar lace kimonos here, here, here, and here. Velvet kimonos here, here, and here.

During my recent Black Friday binge at Shoe Dazzle, I picked up these adorable patent booties in wine and they turned out to be the perfect footwear paired with this lacy dress and patterned fish net stockings.

*Boots: Denny Booties in Wine from Shoes Dazzle. (Available in 4 colors).

By adding just a touch of sparkle with my jewelry and bag, I am definitely feeling the pajama vibes in this outfit.  But I am going for it anyway! Plus, I don’t plan on leaving the house on New Year’s Eve, so if my outfit is too pajama-ey, I suppose it is irrelevant in the comfort of my own living room!

If you are looking for some gorgeous on trend dresses at reasonable prices for all of your special ocassion needs, do check out these two piece prom dresses. The two piece trend is one that I really have been wanting to try. And if you are a huge fan of florals like I am, Sassy My Prom has a great selection. Being a plus size woman, I do appreciate the wonderful variety of plus size prom dresses as well.

Ada: “New Year’s Eve is literally a few days away and I still have to finalize my plans, but no matter what I do I will settle for a girly+sexy silky camisole and a touch of leather and lace. I am loving this combination of burgundy with black – always a classic color pairing for Winter – and all the textures. Stop by the blog too, to see Vivian’s own coordinated, matchy outfit. Happy 2018 and let it shine!!”

Monica: “Y’all it’s almost 2018!  Are you excited, or is it just another year for you?  Regardless, Happy New Year!  I’m not one to make resolutions, but there are a few that I am making this year because I have a lot of stuff to do in the new year, so might as well set some resolutions with my life goals.”

Chrissy: “Our NYE celebration changes each year. We may be gaming and setting off fireworks, chilling with friends or even falling asleep (gasp) on our own comfy sofa. I can’t remember the last time I rang in the new year with dancing, so I’m a little rusty but ready to give it a go this year!!”

Linda: “I found this skirt last year at Target after the holidays and it has been waiting in my closet for the perfect occasion. The sweater was an H&M sale also last year after the holidays.  Two random pieces waiting for the special event.  This year we are celebrating in Atlanta and heading to the Peach Bowl, leaving the snow and cold behind.  Happy New Year and all the best to everyone’s families.”

Kristin: “We’re headed to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, to celebrate New Year’s Eve this year and I’m so excited! Instead of a dress I’m going to be wearing this velvet bodysuit, skinny pants, and ‘Happy New Year’ headband. I can’t wait to see everyone’s looks!”

Shelbee: “I stay in every year for New Year’s Eve, but that doesn’t stop me from dressing up and celebrating the occasion.  This year I am giving the pajama/lingerie trend a try with this lacy burgundy and black dress layered under a black lace and velvet kimono.  Some fun patterned fish nets, patent leather booties in wine, and sparkly jewelry complete the look.  And if it really does look like pajamas, it doesn’t much matter since I am not leaving my house! I wish you all many blessings in the New Year! “

Kellyann: “We spend NYE with our closest friends.  We make lots of yummy food, play games, and listen to music.  We’ve been doing this for years and we always have a great time.  While I want to look festive I also want to be comfortable so I chose my new sweatshirt and comfiest faux leather leggings.  Happy New Year to everyone!”

Lee: “New Years – “We aren’t huge New Years Eve partiers. This year we will stay home and watch a movie like we do every year.  I am sharing a second way to style the leather front leggings.  Versatility is important to me when buying clothing.”

Christine: “I like to keep my NYE outfit simple and effortless. Hubby and I go out dancing so I want to be sure I’m comfortable all night! This faux-leather leggings and metallic top are perfect to ring in the New Year in style!”

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? Do you venture out to the party of the year? Do you celebrate with friends at someone’s house? Or do you just stay home and keep it low-key?

Wishing you all many blessings in the new year!

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee

Wow, I love this dress and kimono – not too pajama-ish at all! You wear this look so well Shelbee. Those fishnet stockings and patent booties compliment this ensemble perfectly! That kimono for $15 was a total steal – I love kimonos, they’re so versatile and add the perfect touch to a slip dress.
I’m not into big fussy parties but I’m all for dressing up even if you’re staying in – I’ll bet your husband gives this outfit of yours two thumbs up!

Kellyann, thanks so much! It does feel a little too much like lingerie to me, but I would totally wear it out anyway…with a splash of confidence, I would be fine! Kimonos are definitely another weakness of mine. I have a ton and more on the way. I am starting my rounds to check out all the other posts in the collaboration now! So far, I love what I see from the collages! Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year, my friend.

You look incredible in the pajama trend. Love+want your lingerie-inspired camisole lacy dress. So sexy, demure and feminine. You look so pretty. Great boots too. I was also happy to see that both you and I chose 1) Black+Burgundy; 2) Lace; and 3) Lingerie-Inspired Looks. Great minds think alike. Thank you so much for all the sweet words you wrote about me and for being part of this amazing 6-part collaboration. It has been a great ride. Cannot wait for our Thursday Moda post tomorrow. I will e-mail everything to you tonight after I get home from work.

Shelbee! You styled this trend so well and I don’t think it’s an easy one to pull off! I love the lace kimono (what a deal!) you paired with it and those fun boots! Of course I couldn’t help but notice your dangly statement earrings. It looks like you had fun styling this outfit. How thankful I am for YOU and your blogging friendship! Hoping for more collabs in the future…;)

Laura, thank you so much! I was so happy with how well the booties matched because I was struggling with my shoe choice! I really appreciate all of the support you have shown me and my blog this year. I wish you a very healthy and happy New Year!

Shelbee I love the patterned tights you’re wearing for NYE! They definitely keep with your lingerie theme and the floral detail is so pretty. You and Ada both rocked the burgundy and I think it’s such a great color for both of you with your dark hair! Have fun with your family and I’m sure we’ll be collaborating more in 2018!

Kristin, thank you so much, my friend! I can’t wait to actually wear this outfit for real (instead of just pictures). I do love burgundy. I started steering away from the color for a while because I had so much of it. But now I find myself drawn to it again. This was an amazing collaboration and I definitely look forward to more next year. Happy New Year to you!

So many great styling ideas from all of this fabulous bloggers. Your spin on a pj theme is truly inventive and quite festive even if it will only be in your own home. How wonderful that pieces acquired at different times can come together into such a fantastic ensemble. I hope that your NYE celebration is fun and that the new year is full of joy and prosperity for you, my friend.

Rena, once again I thank you for always sharing such thoughtful comments here. And I actually ended up spending NYE in my real pajamas because it is just too darn cold! I got all snuggled up in fluffy jammies and an oversized hoodie and played board games with my kids, had a fabulous dinner that my husband cooked, and went to bed at 10:30! I am sending you lots of wishes for a very blessed New Year as well!

Thank you so much. A simple and chic LBD is perfect for all occasions in my opinion, Lorena! I actually ended up in my sweatpants playing board games with my kids. It was really quite nice and relaxing. And I was asleep by 10:30. Happy New Year to you!
