The Holiday Series Blogger Collaboration: Black Friday Shopping Outfit with Zaful & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #47

It is time for the second installment of The Holiday Series, a fabulous collaboration among 13 amazing bloggers which was created and orchestrated by the super stylish Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood. If you didn’t see our first Holiday Series post, you need it to check it out now for some wonderful Thanksgiving Day Outfit inspiration!

*This is a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

*Hoodie: Plus Size Funnel Collar Maxi Asymmetric Hoodie in Army Green ($25.49) c/o Zaful. Available in 4 other colors.

I am not really one to venture out into the chaos of Black Friday shopping, that’s for sure. I did it once, about 20 years ago, with my sister when her kids were young. As we stood in the freezing cold, coffee cups in hand, crazy people all around us in the darkness of 4:00 a.m., I vowed that I would never ever go shopping on Black Friday again. And I really never have. Except the occasional trip out later in the evening hours of Black Friday when the crowds have begun to disperse.

But if I were to change my mind (I always reserve that right) and decide to go all out on a Black Friday, I would dress comfortably in lots of layers with flat shoes for walking. So I chose some stretchy jeggings, my favorite distressed Bed:Stu booties, and this fabulous new funnel collar asymmetric hoodie. I love the color and the fabric is lightweight with an oversized fit which allows for all sorts of layering options. A small cross body bag is the only way to go for a long day of shopping. A thrifted leather jacket and matching scarf, hat, and gloves complete the look. The only jewelry I added was a no-fuss pair of earrings and my wedding ring.

Since I don’t yet have the nerve to approach the mall on Black Friday, Amy and I took a trip there on a Sunday morning a few weeks ago before the stores were opened for business. We had the best time taking photographs all around the mall and in front of my favorite places to shop. The looks we were getting from passersby were kind of priceless, too! The life of blogger always put you in the most interesting situations.

What are your Black Friday preferences? Do you head out into the chaos? Or do you stick to online shopping? Or maybe you just wait until the last minute like I do? Whichever way you decide to shop this holiday season, please remember to be kind and stay in the holiday spirit! And keep spreading kindness all around you everywhere you go!

Whitney: “As much as I love shopping, I am not a Black Friday shopper.  I prefer to sleep-in, eat Thanksgiving leftovers and avoid the major crowds.  I still love holiday shopping expeditions, though!  It’s fun to look festive but comfort is really key for a day of walking around and carrying shopping bags!”

Linda: “In Canada we are still going full out on Black Friday but I do like dressing a little festive knowing that you are enjoying a special Holiday. Wearing my new embroidered blazer from Target with a pair of plaid pants I have owned for a few years.I will not be hitting the sales on Black Friday but I will be thinking of all my American Friends enjoying this time with their families.”

Shelbee: “For Black Friday shopping at the mall, I must be warm and comfortable for waiting in outside lines.  But I also must wear enough layers to shed if I get too hot.  I chose a lightweight hoodie, stretchy jeggings, and flat boots for lots of walking.  I layered up with a leather jacket, hat, scarf, and gloves. Minimal jewelry to prevent snagging…just earrings and my wedding ring.  Let’s go shopping! “

Kellyann: “This is an outfit I’d wear if I was actually going shopping on Black Friday.  A crossbody bag is a necessity for me so my hands are free to shop! I want to be comfortable so I chose skinny jeans, a lightweight plaid shirt, and a v-neck sweater to keep me warm.  Knowing my Florida climate as I do, the sweater will come off by noon!  Right now I’m only planning on shopping online.  I want to spend as much time as possible with my boys and soak up all that I have to be thankful for.”

Jennie: “I rarely actually go to any stores on Black Friday and stick to shopping on my laptop, but this year I may actually visit our local outlet mall and catch some sales. A lightweight jacket, hat, and boots will keep me warm and comfortable throughout the day without extra bulk.”

Chrissy: “Black Friday has always been a fun shopping adventure to me. I can recall standing in crazy lines for Bath & Body Works candles and Air Freshner plug-ins. However, for the last 3 years my Black Friday shopping is now on “Black Tuesday or Wednesday” with my mother in law and sister in law in central Illinois. On official Black Friday you’ll find me traveling on the road back to GA with hubby and boys.”

Lee: “This year on Black Friday instead of running around spending money and buying things we don’t need I am going to volunteer.  I am apart of a local service league which holds an event called Christmas House which gives underprivileged children a new coat, 2 toys, and 2 new books for Christmas (or whatever holiday they celebrate).  In order to have the items to offer we work with other companies to raise money or get donations.  This year to get books we have partnered with Barnes and Noble (New Hope Commons Durham NC).  As part of our partnership we will ‘man’ the gift wrapping table.  So my black Friday will be spent wrapping gifts for shoppers at Barnes and Noble while spreading the word about Christmas House.  Head to my blog to learn more.”

Kristin: “Since I live in Germany, Black Friday isn’t as big of an occasion as it is in the States. This year I’m going to be shopping online so I can still get in on all of the sales! I’m always looking for great deals on expensive winter items like boots, coats, and cashmere.”

Kimberly: “I would wear something comfortable and dress in layers so I can take things off if its crowded or the stores are hot.  A lightweight/loose top, vest and scarf would complete my look.”

Ada: “This year on Black Friday I will be working and give or take I am going to be out and about for 12 hours straight so a comfy and warm outfit with black skinny jeans – still work-appropriate – a black long-sleeve wool tee and one of my long and cozy chenille cardigans will be what I will wear. I chose burgundy desert booties for comfort and a wool-blend blanket scarf to keep warm. My workplace is doing the “Simply Give” event this year on Black Friday. I will be doing a food-drive for families in need and after that a mittens+socks drive+deliver. Between all the driving and being in an out of my car, I wanted a layered look. I think my ‘Fall Uniform’ is also perfect for shopping on Black Friday since layers are a must.

Lizzie: “On Black Friday, I like to wake up super early to take my siblings on a shopping spree in our PJ’s. We have a lot of fun picking out presents for our family and making memories along the way.”

Monica: “Oh Black Friday, so many people get up so early to go shopping and I think it’s become its own holiday as well.  I like to be lazy Thanksgiving weekend and I’m not one of those people who wakes up early.  I worked in retail for about 10 years, so I like to sleep in and take my time shopping.  I usually can’t find anything on Black Friday besides certain electronics.  So my plans are to sleep in, and relax until I’m ready to shop.”

Michelle: “This outfit is totally ready for some Black Friday shopping. If you plan to shop online, then you will be cozy in this pullover and comfy leggings & if you plan to head out to stores, sneakers & a cross body bag are a must for a full day of shopping! Either way, go get those deals!”

I enjoy Black Friday shopping, it makes me feel festive! But I’m in a tee shirt and yoga pants while I shop!! Lol!

I enjoy shopping any day of the year, really! Except when it gets too crazy and chaotic. Although where I live, it doesn’t seem to get too crazy anyway. Thanks for stopping by, Jaymie! And a tee shirt and yoga pants probably make you very happy for a long day of shopping! I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and find some great Black Friday deals.

Love the color of this top! I also love that it is so flowy like a tunic rather than a standard hoodie – it looks great! I’ll likely be shopping online if anything, don’t have the nerve for the mall on regular Saturdays much less Black Friday. 😉

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

I hear you, Mary, on the crowded mall thing. I cannot tolerate it either! And thanks for the lovely comment. I am not a fan of a plain hoodie, for sure. I need something a little more interesting and this one fit the bill perfectly. Happy Thanksgiving!

Like you, I stay away from stores when they are crowded with shoppers. We’ve done most of our shopping already, and I’m so thankful to be able to enjoy wrapping and sending cards in December!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Michele, thanks for stoping by. I don’t think we are doing much shopping this year at all anyway. With my sister’s family, we are having a “Ye Olde Time” Christmas where every gift must be homemade from things found around the house. We are not permitted to buy anything! I wish you avery Happy Thanksgiving!

Cheryl, thanks so much for stopping by! I do love to shop in actual stores. I also love online shopping. Who am I kidding? I just love to shop in any forum! But the crowds I can definitely do without! I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving and happy shopping from home!

You crack me up: yes you do reserve the right to change your mind lol. I love your new fun olive tunic hoodie! This is a perfect outfit to wear for Black Friday. And originally I had a sweatshirt with a solid oversized knit scarf, skinny blue jeans, same desert booties as I have on my post today and a light coat, ready to go as my OOTD post today – very similar to yours. But I lost those pics lol. Anyhow, the actual outfit is another option and it is still the same formula as your outfit. I agree that layers and flat comfy shoes are a must for Black Friday shopping.

I finally have my entire post edited and live. Thank you for letting me co-host today and it will be even more fun to co-host all glammed up on Friday, dear Shel!!

Ada, thanks so much for this lovely comment! Funny that you have a similar outfit…great minds share great style! Thanks for co-hosting the link up (I still need to edit my post to say that you can link up on your page as well), but now I have run out the door for a preschool party to celebrate trees! And I just photographed a fancy black dress for Friday’s post! I will make rounds to the other blogs in the collaboration as soon as I am done with mom stuff! Thank you again for all of your hard work in organizing this fun collaboration.

This outfit is perfect for black Friday! I love that color of that hoodie top…Also, I think it’s brilliant that you went to take pics around the shopping mall before the stores opened – fun indeed! I must admit that I don’t miss getting up at three in the morning to freeze my booty off on early sales. 😉

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Chrissy, thanks so much! It was fun taking pictures in the mall! And yeah, I tend to avoid malls and such if I can once the holiday rush begins. I have made my rounds to the other posts in this collaboration, but I will get to them eventually!

      Happy Thanksgiving!

I usually have no money by the time Black Friday rolls around! Hahaha! So I have to put shopping on hold. But I like any kind of shopping…online or in stores. I can definitely do without the crowds as well. Thanks so much for stopping by, Suzy!

Shelbee, love the green tunic on you, great color and i agree! comfy shoes are a must. So cute! i was reading about what everyone would wear on Black Friday when it sounds like most avoid shopping altogether! ( except online!) I agree and had a sim expereince with my hubby and best buy. 5 am, nutzo people pushing etc and nothing there.. so it became that i would not venture out into the maddening crowds either! I enjoy my robe and shopping from my computer.

Jess, thanks so much for the lovely compliment! I am love all the difference shades of olive this fall, for sure. And yeah, it’s funny how we all created Black Friday shopping outfits but none of us go out shopping! Haha. At this time of year, I do prefer online shopping as well. But I really like any kind of shopping and will head to the stores whenever I feel compelled. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Love that hoodie top, the colour and style! Looks great on too. No, you would never catch me out on Black Friday even though here in Canada it’s a tad more civilized, maybe some online shopping, but no bargains could drag me out. Loved the post and off to visit and share. Thanks Shelbee, you’re too kind for connecting us bloggers. 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to all we celebrate, best of luck to those brave enough to brave the shops, and hope the week treats everyone well. Best wishes. 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Donna, thanks so much for this wonderful comment! Yeah, people on Black Friday definitely get insanely crazy. It always boggles my mind! I actually would rather pay the extra money to avoid the craze. Or just wait it out. There is not anything that I need or want that desperately! I am glad to hear that Canadians are more civilized about it. It restores my faith in humanity! Have a fabulous weekend!

Love this post! I wear pjs all day black Friday. Mainly because I do not leave my house! After working in retail for years I hate black Friday, and never have a good experience. The deals are not worth the fights I have witnessed or the mad rush. Thank god for Amazon prime.

  • Petite Silver Vixen

I can’t believe the holidays are here and Black Friday is upon us! I’m valiantly trying to avoid being sucked into it all. This phenonemon of Black Friday just gets bigger and bigger over here in the UK. I remember only a few years ago when we were all scratching our heads saying what’s all the fuss about!!!
Anyway, you have a great hoodie, very cosy.
    Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Jacqueline, thank so much for stopping by! Black Friday really is a ridiculous phenomenon that feeds an already out of control consumer mentality!

Thank you for the lovely compliment. This hoodie is supremely comfy and fun to wear. I also have to tell you that I have styled my very first beret (I went with a basic black one to start) and it will be appearing on my blog this Thursday! And now I want one in every color.

      Have a wonderful weekend!

      • Petite Silver Vixen

Woo hoo! Welcome to the beret club, my friend! I shall swing by on Thursday and inspect it – ha, ha!
You start with black but yes, be warned, you WILL want one in every colour. Couple of weekends ago I added to my collection a teal one. My husband says at this rate the whole house will be filled with berets. Yup, I said, it probably will!

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Awesome! I am looking at some pink ones right now! I just got the most fabulous pair of pink velvet booties only to realize that I have no pink accessories. So I think a pink beret will fit the bill just perfectly!

          Thanks for the beret inspiration!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Whitney! Oh we had so much fun photographing in the mall! There was lots of laughter. And then we shopped once the stores opened! Without the Black Friday crowds. I need to start making rounds to the other posts in this fun collaboration!

      Happy Thanksgiving!

Carrie, I love this scarf so much that I bought it in 4 colors at an Old Navy scarf sale a few years ago (I think they were $5 each). I got black, tan, ivory, and gray. And I wear them all the time..even just lounging around my house when I get chilled. Thanks so much for stopping by! And whatever you decide to do on Friday, I hope you find all the deals you are looking for.

      Happy Thanksgiving!

I totally agree that being a blogger puts you in weird public situations! I take a lot of style pictures in a park near my home, and constantly have run-ins with others enjoying the park who must think I’m such a weirdo!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Kim, I’m glad I could help! Technology is not really my strong point, so I surprised myself that I could actually figure it out and even on a hosting site that I am not familiar with! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I’ll be staying in on Black Friday and doing more decorating and writing. My outfit will be yoga pants and a sweatshirt!! I love your olive hoodie. It’s adorable. I’m a bit confused though. I was asked if I would be interested in a collab with more bloggers such as this–I said yes and nobody ever got back to me. I guess I fell through the cracks. No biggie. I’m enjoying the posts!! XXOXOXO!!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Cathe, thanks for stopping by! This sweatshirt is perfect with leggings for staying in, too! I will be staying in as well and relaxing and catching up on blog work. I am going to email you about the blogger collaboration issue! In the meantime, have a fabulous Thanksgiving!

There was once a time that I was giddy about Black Friday and would hit the stores at 5am when they opened. The whole “opening on Thursday” crap has really soured me on the whole shopping weekend. Besides, with so many deals before and after, Black Friday is no longer the bargain hunter’s dream it once was. Great photos, BTW. I love being in a mall when no one else is there even if the stores are closed. 😂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Rena, I agree with you about being soured by stores opening on Thanksgiving. It annoys me so very much as well. There is so much online shopping available if people really feel the need to shop on the holiday. Let these people who work in retail have the day off to spend with family. It really is quite ridiculous and just another way that we are feeding this crazy consumer mentality. My rant being over, I hope you enjoy your holiday!

I love that tunic and the olive color is moving way up on my list of favs lately. I gave that scarf to my daughter and cousin for Christmas a few years ago. It’s a good one. Have a great a Thanksgiving Shelbee!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Lisa! I have added so many olive pieces to my wardrobe this year that it is silly! And now recently, I am on a red plaid kick, so be prepared for lots of plaid on my blog in the next few weeks! Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Despite me always putting a brave face on and taking pics by myself or asking a friend when I have the chance, the stares you get are always distracting and at times uncomfortable. It’s funny though that it has to be this way…I ask why? Don’t we all take pics of places we visited to remember, so what if someone takes a pic near a store of their outfit? Is it because you seem vain all of a sudden. As a matter of fact, I HATE taking pics of myself and it took me so long to build up the courage to do so mainly for my IG (which I would love if you can check it out http://www.instagram.com/raniastylist). But I knew I had to do it build engagement and connect with people. I still don’t enjoy it and it takes me a 1000 frames to get a decent pic but for some reason I am still discouraged by the stares (or perception of) that I get when I snap my shots ESPECIALLY that I am in a freezing country which means I need to take my coat off, snap a photo of my outfit a bazillion times, freeze to death, then go about my business. Perhaps the real problem lies with me and not people…need to learn to ignore them more.

It definitely is a process getting comfortable taking photos of ourselves. The first year of my blog, I wouldn’t leave my back yard. Then I got braver and bolder and while it is still awkward, I just own it and pretend like I am some kind of superstar for the few minutes it takes to get photos done! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with me, Rania! It is a crazy life we live as bloggers, isn’t it?!
