The Bad Buy Book: September 2017-Skirts

Welcome to September’s edition of The Bad Buy Book! The theme this month is Skirts!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. Together, we wanted to establish something fun and new. We had both talked about our Sitting Shoes and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those Sitting Shoes, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items! And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item? And why do you dislike it now? And why not share them with us? We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet. Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about your Bad Buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 10th of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your Bad Buy can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put Bad Buy in the subject line.

Let’s take a look at our Bad Buy Skirts!

First let’s begin with my fabulous co-host Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. She says this about her pretty leaf print midi skirt:

“I bought this one on a market in Rye on a holiday. Very cheap! I fall for cheap, isn’t that awfull! But I only like the colors, nothing else. It’s cotton and I don’t like cotton. It doesn’t form to your body.”

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style
[I think this skirt is quite pretty with its rich autumnal colors and leafy print.]

Next up is Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style with her vibrant beachy maxi skirt. Jodie says this about her skirt:

“Well, it’s another episode of what Jodie can buy that really doesn’t work—ha ha!!
Here’s my maxi skirt that I bought last year at the thrift store! I wanted a knit maxi skirt, and I love the colors, but it just didn’t work well for my style. There was too much going on in the print, and I never felt comfortable wearing it!! I suppose I could have tried other options to see if something would work, but I gave up and donated it!”

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style
[I find this skirt quite becoming on Jodie!  The colors are so summery and breezy and vibrant like Jodie’s personality!]

Let’s get back to Nancy. Because she has two bad buy skirts!

“This is also a bad buy skirt, it’s actually a very boring color and I never wear it as a skirt. I wore it here as a dress! But this one I bought when I was still working and got 50% discount, so I bought a lot of clothing then………still do……without the discount…..”

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style
[Okay, I am kind of really loving this skirt.  It is super flattering on Nancy and I could totally sass this baby up something fierce!]

And now onto my very own bad buy skirt!

When I saw this faux leather pencil skirt, I had to have it. Because, well, a black leather pencil skirt is completely bad ass. But only if it fits properly. Which it doesn’t. It is crazy tight around the midsection. I can’t sit or breathe in it! But the next size up was much too big. And how the heck do you get those horrible creases out of the faux leather? I haven’t a clue.”

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge
[Nancy says I can iron it…inside out. Once I fit comfortably in it again, I will give the iron a try! Thanks, Nancy!]

That’s all we have for this month’s edition of The Bad Buy Book. I hope you all enjoyed it! The theme for October is Jackets or Blazers.

Won’t you all join us next month for Bad Buy Blazers! I am such a failure at buying blazers that fit properly. I really need to have them tailored to fit and I never make the effort. I always end with jackets that are too tight in the shoulders or the bust. Let’s see what I can dig out of the archives for my Bad Buy Blazer! We would love to see yours, too. Be sure to submit your entries by October 10!

Thanks to the fabulous ladies who joined us this month for our fun little project! We hope to see more of you next month.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee

I don’t know, Jodie, I might be worse than you! At least you donate your bad buys once you realize they don’t work for you. I am such a hoarder that I hold onto everything no matter how bad it is! Hahaha. Once again, thank you so much for playing along! You are so much fun!

OMG, I love this idea! I have so many clothes I have no idea why I spent my hard earned money on them, what a great concept. I’m loving that black skirt on Nancy. It looks super easy and breezy.

Hi Mary, thanks so much for stopping by! Isn’t this such a fun series! I do hope you can join us for next month’s theme of Bad Buy Blazers or Jackets! I know I often will style something for a photo shoot and then try to wear it for the day only to realize what a bad buy it was! Hahaha. Have a fabulous weekend.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Amy! It is funny how we all share these bad buys that really don’t look all that bad in the photos! Ha. But we are fashion bloggers after all, so we have a knack for making things appear perhaps better than they actually are! Have a fabulous weekend.

It’s too bad this skirt didn’t fit well and also has creases. A good leather (or faux leather) skirt is such a wonderful piece for cooler weather. I have so many blazers I will need to check and see if one might qualify for next month’s theme. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday!

I agree with you completely, Jennie! I think I need to get a leather skirt that fits comfortably. Or lose 10 pounds! Losing 10 pounds would probably cost less money!!! I hope you can join for The Bad Buy Book Blazers edition! It will be fun to have a new participant. Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day.
