The Bad Buy Book: July 2017-Tops

Welcome to July’s edition of The Bad Buy Book: Tops!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. Together, we wanted to establish something fun and new. We both talked about our Sitting Shoes and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those Sitting Shoes, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items! And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item? And why do you dislike it now? And why not share them with us? We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet. Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 10th of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your Bad Buy can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put Bad Buy in the subject line.

Now let’s check out those Bad Buy tops!

First, my lovely co-host Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. Nancy says, “I could add so many bad buy tops. It’s awful!”

“I don’t know exactly why I don’t like this top. I think it’s the neckline and the color.”

Nancy, I am kind of loving this entire look on you! The pencil skirt is fabulous and the top pairs perfectly with the structure of the skirt.

Next up is Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style. Jodie says this, “I guess I should be embarrassed that I have categories for everything you’ve talked about so far…ha ha!!” Actually, Jodie, we love that you have participated with us every month! And Nancy and I both have Bad Buy items for every category, too! We probably should never shop together! Ha.

“I’m including a photo of this blouse. I liked the blouse and it fit fine—until I washed it! Then it shrunk like no ones business!! Of course, I’m sure if I was more careful about how I wash my items, I might not have had this issue. But I’m one of those that everything needs to go in the washer and dryer or it just doesn’t work in my life!!!”

Oh no, Jodie! What a shame. I have become super diligent with the way I wash my clothing as I get older! Too many lessons learned!

And Nancy has a second submission.

“And this one I only wore once to show here. Again it’s the color, now that I am showing it to you I understand I never must buy a top in off white! How helpful is The Bad Buy Book!”

Nancy, I do not think it is as bad as you think it is!

And now for my Bad Buy Top.

“I really liked this striped peplum top from Old Navy and didn’t buy it when I tried it on. When I went back for it, they did not have my size so I bought one size smaller. And now it pulls across my chest, the sleeves feel too snug, and the peplum hits right at the widest part of my midsection. It also gets all caught up in the back on the waistband of my pants. I should have just ordered the correct size online!”

That’s all we have for this month! Although several ladies said they had a Bad Buy Top, they did not submit anything. Such a shame! I do hope you will all join next month! And if there are themes that you would like to see, please let us know!

For August, we are returning to our original theme of Sitting Shoes, but more specifically Sandals!

So remove those nasty, ugly, uncomfortable sandals from the closet, put them on your feet for one last time, and take a picture! We would love to see them before August 10th.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee

Thanks so much, Jodie! It is just a little too tight…everywhere…but then again we are women who take pictures of ourselves all the time, so we know how to capture the right angles to make even bad stuff look good! Thanks for playing along. It is always fun!

I’ve had a few tops from Old Navy that have the same problem of tight across the chest and shoulders! I’ve also tried on a few peplum tops that look so cute on the hanger, but just don’t hit right.

Thanks for linking up on Amanda’s Books and More while I was away. I try to link up on your hop whenever I have something that looks like fashion even though I don’t have a fashion blog. That’s why I’m not linking up every time, but I’m still around. Take care and have a great week!

I don’t have enough fingers to count the number of times I have had clothes buying regret. I did a survey recently on a clothing online store that told me what styles I should be wearing for my shape, that helped a whole lot!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Alicia! I am pretty good at knowing what looks right on me but often I get taken by a great sale and not-quite-right fit and suddenly I’ve got a bad buy in my closet!

I love the Bad Buy Book concept – it’s so fun to commiserate with others and make light of our “mistakes”. I still think most people actually look quite nice in their bad buys but, it goes to show, if you don’t love something, you’re not going to wear it.
