Styling My New Houndstooth Ruana & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #203
With all the Christmas gift giving completed for this year, it is time to start sharing some of the amazing things that I received. I want to start with this fabulous black and white houndstooth ruana from my mother-in-law. This was the perfect gift choice showing how well my husband’s mother knows me. She knows I am always cold and therefore I will always appreciate anything that will keep me warm and cozy. She also knows that I am always happy to add a new dramatic statement piece to my wardrobe. And really, there is nothing quite as dramatic and bold as a black and white houndstooth fringed wrap. Wanting…

The Fab 40’s are Inspired by Space
It’s no secret that I am a space geek. I am completely fascinated and intrigued by space travel, by the enormity of what’s out there, by our abilities to explore space, and by the idea that one day humans may very well have the capacity to populate other celestial bodies. I am that kid (yes, when it comes to outer space, my enthusiasm is very childlike) who jumps on the couch, cheering out loud when a space shuttle launches, holding my breath for the entire time it takes them to get lift off and safely exit the atmosphere. And it got me thinking that I cannot possibly be the only who gets confused by these terms for outfit toppers…kimonos, ruanas, ponchos, shawls, wraps, sarapes…so I took to the internet to find some clarifying definitions. They really aren’t all that clarifying. The piece I am wearing is called the Santorini Shawl. So what exactly constitutes a shawl? A shawl is usually long and rectangle shaped, similar to a scarf, that is draped over your arms and back and held…

Where Aztec Meets New York & Link Up On the Edge #72
I will be the first to admit that I am not a huge fan of tribal prints. I’m not exactly sure what it is about the geometric shapes and lines that are traditional in this type of pattern, but it just does not appeal to me. I have wondered before on my blog what exactly it is that draws certain people to certain prints and patterns. Even colors, too. *This poncho was gifted to me by Zaful in exchange for this post. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. I realized that one particular quality in a print that tends to bother me is complete symmetry. I prefer a…
