Inspired by Curated by Jennifer: Linen Dress and Flowerless Fields
We have just had a few weeks of unseasonably warm weather here in the North Country and so I took full advantage of the opportunity to recreate this cool outfit that Jennifer of Curated by Jennifer shared last month. In her post, Linen Dress and Flower Fields, she wore a gorgeous white linen sundress with a black moto jacket, black boots, and a black hat. I just love the stark contrast between black and white as well as the pairing of a feminine white dress with edgy black accessories. While I was styling my own version of Jennifer’s outfit, I realized that out of the hundreds of pairs of shoes…

The Fab 40s are Getting Dressed for NYFW
We are back at it again, my Fab 40’s friends and I, and we are dressing up for New York Fashion Week. While NYFW ended on September 16, that isn’t stopping us from dressing the part just for the fun of it. This month’s theme was the brainchild of Ada and I have to admit that I was kind of stumped. Back in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, I spent a good many years working in different parts of New York City and it really is one of the most fashionable places on earth. It was such a cool environment back in my 20’s and early 30’s. I remember…

Thankful & Blessed with Bellelily & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #189
“Unhappiness is a contagious disease caused by a chronic deficiency of gratitude.” Mokokoma Mokhonoana I am a firm believer that one’s quality of life is directly influenced by one’s approach to life. We have very little control over the things that life throws our way and I have found that maintaining a simple roll with the punches attitude really works wonders in living one’s best life. By nature, we humans are a very adaptable species. Otherwise, we would not have survived as long as we have. While adaptability is paramount to our survival on earth, it is our mindsets and our perspectives that are most influential with regard to our…

Inspired by A Labour of Life: Old Navy Checks
There are not too many blogger friends in my circle who can relate to the weather struggle when it comes to styling cute outfits and staying warm in heaping piles of snow. But Linda of A Labour of Life, my Canadian friend, who lives just 2 hours directly north of me in Ottawa, gets it. She really does understand the insanity that is the winter weather up in this part of the world. But not only does she relate to my weather struggles, she also possesses very similar sartorial tastes as mine. I know that we shop at many of the same places including Shoe Dazzle, Old Navy, and Target.…

A Kindness Conundrum & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #156
We all know what kindness is, what it means, and can usually recognize it when it happens. At its most basic definition, kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, or considerate. But I have recently stumbled upon quite the conundrum of kindness. Certain things that people do or say with the appearance of kindness, but the result is irritating the hell out of me. In this world of social media, I suppose that messages can absolutely be lost in translation. We have only words typed on a screen without seeing a person’s face, hearing the tone of their voice or the inflections they use when delivering the message. One…

The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Leather & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #144
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book! Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series co-hosted with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have…

Inspired by Seeking Sunshine: The Best Turtleneck Sweater
As soon as Fall hits my neck of the woods, Winter is right around the corner. Autumn is short lived around here, the leaves turn fast, and fall even faster. The first frost should be happening any day now with overnight temperatures dipping into the low 30’s this week. We will be seeing the first snowflakes long before Halloween arrives. Even though we celebrate college football Saturdays with enthusiasm and vigor around here, we do live in a place where ice hockey is the sport of choice. When there is snow and ice on the ground for 10 months out of the year, it is only natural that sports that…

Styling a Ribbon Scarf for Fall & Giveaway
Fall is officially here and what that means for me in the North Country is that I am cold. All the time. For some reason, the premenopausal fluctuations in my estrogen levels like to correspond with the drop in temperatures. So while my body becomes unable to properly regulate its own temperature and the thermometer begins to plummet, the cold flashes take over and I spend most of my days just trying to get warm. Scarves, hats, and fingerless gloves become a staple in my daily wardrobe even while I sit in my house working. If I could type with fingered gloves, I totally would. In fact, as I sit…

Something About You & Link Up On the Edge #164
Last Friday, I was inspired by Ada to share a poem. I talked a little bit about how intimidating it can be to share one’s poetry….written from the heart, exposing all the raw emotions that fight their way onto paper. I was a bit hesitant, but I faced my fear and did it anyway. I must practice what I preach, I suppose. And I am ever so grateful for all the very kind and encouraging comments that I received in response. I saw my rhyming poem, I Thought I’d Known You Before, as unsophisticated in its simple rhyming and repetitive verses. I think I was attempting something that was a…

The Fab 40’s From the Ground Up
It is time again for my fabulous friends in their 40’s to share some fun fashion ideas with you. We hope to inspire you to get creative with your wardrobe pieces and try something new and fun. Life is too short to wear boring clothes after all! The Fab 40’s is a group of six fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger who is also in their 40’s to join us. This group’s goal is to take on a style theme and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our own lives. With six widely varied views, you…
