I Get by With a Little Help from My Friends & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #160
I get by with a little help from my friends. Sometimes I need more help than other times. Sometimes I need less. Sometimes I don’t want any help at all. And sometimes I may not survive without the help. Sometimes I am strong enough to ask for help. Other times, I am too weak to admit that I might need help. I have the ability to reach out, isolate, hide away, seek assistance, talk it through, deny it all, help myself, and wake up the next day with a new found perspective. Sometimes I can get caught in a vortex of negativity while other times I can sit on the…

A Kindness Conundrum & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #156
We all know what kindness is, what it means, and can usually recognize it when it happens. At its most basic definition, kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, or considerate. But I have recently stumbled upon quite the conundrum of kindness. Certain things that people do or say with the appearance of kindness, but the result is irritating the hell out of me. In this world of social media, I suppose that messages can absolutely be lost in translation. We have only words typed on a screen without seeing a person’s face, hearing the tone of their voice or the inflections they use when delivering the message. One…

Is it Possible to Run Out of Kindness? & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #155
When I began this #SpreadTheKindness Link Up way back in November of 2016, I was full of fire and passion about a mission that was near to my heart. I wanted to take a stand against negativity and toxicity that exists in the world around us. I wanted to be kind to everyone for the sole purpose of just being kind. I wanted to lead by example and teach my children the importance of kindness. I wanted to show that everyone deserves to be on the receiving end of kindness just because we are all humans struggling through the irony that is being human. In an effort to make the…

The Benefits of Altruism & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #127
Did you know that practicing altruism benefits the giver as much as it does the receiver? Maybe even more. Caring about other people and acting in the interest of others with no expectation of reciprocity fulfills and energizes us in a unique way that no other behavior really can accomplish. While it is proven that exercise releases dopamine which helps to improve our moods and make us feel happier, the act of giving and helping others unconditionally also releases endorphins that activate the part of the brain associated with trust, happiness, and social connection. When you perform a good deed for someone else, it really does make you happier. This…

Love and Radical Kindness Win & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #111
I have heard this Carrie Underwood song at least 100 times, but I never actually listened to the words until the other day. I was flipping through television channels and landed on CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown and they aired the Love Wins video as the number 2 video on the countdown. The visuals caught my attention, drew me in, and I found myself really listening…and tearing up as I watched. Maybe it’s PMS getting me all emotional. Maybe it’s just life and all the crazy that exists in this world. Maybe it’s simply because truer lyrics have never been written, yet so many continue to disregard the message. Maybe it’s…

Is Kindness Difficult? and #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #91
Is kindness difficult? This question popped into my head today when I made a quick stop at Lowe’s to pick up a gift card. I legitimately could not find where the gift cards were located. In most large retail chains, they have a display of their own gift cards right at the check out registers, so I got into the only open register line empty-handed with the intention of inquiring about a gift card. The cashier monitoring the self check out line waved me over to that area to check out. No words were spoken. Just a finger pointed at me and the wave of hand indicating that I should…

Making Connections & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #88
Recently, I talked about making transitions and how the experience has been exhausting and energizing and everything in between. Granted it has been less than 3 weeks ago that I have ventured back into the work force, but in that short period of time I have made so many amazing connections! I have to tell you this, in case you weren’t already aware…the world is filled with spectacular, beautiful, kind, inspiring people. They are quite literally everywhere around us. I have encountered them in all three places of my employ and pretty much everywhere else I go lately. People with rich and lively stories, interesting and empowering histories, brilliant and…

SmartChicks: Women Empowering Women & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #75
Women empowering women. That is so my jam. People empowering people. Even better. There is enough crazy and chaos and competition in this world that I really don’t need to add to it. Instead, I opt for empowering and inspiring others to be the very best versions of themselves. One person’s success does not take away from another’s person’s success…especially these days. In this generation of technology and social media where we have the means to reach an infinite number of people and various different audiences around the world, competition really seems a little silly. Because there is enough room for all of us. And as we help each other…

20 Things That Make Me Happy & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #68
In light of my more serious and somewhat depressing content from yesterday’s post, I decided to turn my face to the sunshine (wherever it is currently hiding) and share with you all some of the things in my life that make me happy. Because today is #SpreadTheKindness Day here On the Edge…and sometimes just sharing our happy things with the world is one way of throwing kindness like confetti. (FYI…confetti does not make me happy. I actually kind of despise confetti. Such a mess.) *This is not a sponsored post. Without further adieu and in no particular order, here are 20 things that make me happy. 1. My kids. When…

It’s All About People Helping People & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #66
If you haven’t heard already, my website was hacked last week and what a freaking nightmare it was. But I have to say that by the end of the entire process, there was most definitely a silver lining to that storm cloud. So let me tell you the story… A few weeks ago, I noticed that every time I tried to log into my WordPress, it was telling me that my password was incorrect. So I would change the password and get back to work. Then the next time I attempted to log in with my new password, I would get the failed log in error due to an incorrect…
