Is That Too Much to Ask?
Have you ever asked anyone what their favorite (fill in the blank with any number of subjects here) is? Favorite color, favorite book, favorite food, favorite movie, favorite person, favorite place, favorite animal, favorite drink. Most people have an immediate answer ready without hesitation. They can rattle off their list of favorites without pause, like perfectly timed snare drums nary missing a beat. But ask them their favorite song and you will not get just one unambiguous direct answer. I don’t think I have ever met a person yet who has just one favorite song. Most of us have many. Because music moves us, comforts us, consoles us, inspires us,…

Use Your Power to Empower & Link Up On the Edge #157
I have said this 100 times, maybe 1,000 times, maybe more. Experience is knowledge. Knowledge is power. And when we have those things, we have an obligation to share what we know in a helpful way. What good is having experience and knowledge and power and hoarding it away in secrecy? What good is hiding our talents and our expertise from the world and from those who could benefit from it? What good is living on this earth if we are not going help each other through the whole messy ride? What good is being a human if we aren’t being, well, human? Humankind. That is an interesting term, isn’t…

I Have No Idea What I’m Doing & Link Up On the Edge #155
I have no idea what I’m doing. For real. This has become the natural state of things for me lately. But on the flip side, I do know exactly what I should be doing. And so, with the loving support of my husband, I have made a decision that is scary and intimidating but I think (fingers crossed) it will be much to my benefit in the long term. Let me give you some background…when I was in Asheville a few weeks ago, I felt more creatively inspired than I have in a really, really long time. When I came home, I cycled into a pretty severe depression for that…

The Goonies Never Say Die & Life Lately
Another weekend has past. Another Monday has arrived. Another blog post to write. I have to so much to say yet nothing at all to share. Because sometimes life just gets in the way. There are a million things to do but not a million hours in a day. It seems as if the list is never ending so I just take it one day at a time, hour by hour, minute by minute, hoping that progress will be evident. I have been managing to get outfit photos done, trying to stock pile them before my husband goes to Louisiana for a month and I am sans photographer. I hate…

Inspired by Claire Justine: Friends
I remember when Friends first aired. I was a junior in college, living with 5 other young women in off campus housing in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. And I think there was a little part of all of us that wanted to be much like this group of 6 friends making it on their own in the city. But out of the group of us, I was probably the one who the big city called to the loudest. I didn’t make my way to New York City until I started a new job at 26 years old that took me there for frequent business meetings and eventually transitioned to an office near…

When Life Locks in You in a Bathroom, Laugh
I would be depriving you all of a great good laugh today if I didn’t share this story with you. Saturday evening as I was getting dressed to go work my closing shift at Torrid, I had no idea what was in store for me. I had been informed via text message that the store was absolutely crazy all day long, so I should be prepared for chaos. Little did I know that I would be a tremendous addition to the already existing chaos. But in the end, I was told that it was a much needed bit of comic relief to end a really stressful day for the Torrid…

Inspired by This Blonde’s Shopping Bag: Plaid Blazer & White Booties
First, I have to tell you that I adore Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag. I don’t know how long ago it was that she and I found each other in the grand wilderness of blogland, but we became fast blogger friends right from the first introduction. It is funny how you can never meet a person in real life but still have about a million things in common. And one thing, for sure, that Kellyann and I have in common is our love for shopping, all things fashion, and apparently plaid blazers and white booties. When white booties really hit the trend scene last year, I was hesitant at…

Let Light Shine & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #100
I cannot believe that my #SpreadTheKindness Link Up as reached 100 weeks of sharing light and spreading kindness. So many wonderful posts that have been linked here. In the two years of its existence, nearly 8,000 posts have joined these link parties. Eight thousand creative, inspiring, brilliantly drafted blog posts on all sorts of fun and interesting topics. To all who have joined, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. This link up began in response to a horrible backlash I received over two years ago when I shared My Response to the Presidential Election. I don’t do politics. I don’t discuss them. I don’t usually…

Confessions of a Judgmental Mom
I confess that I have judged other moms. Way more times than I am comfortable admitting. I know it’s wrong. I even wrote a post exclusively about how important it is to drop the judgments and keep kindness alive. Yet, I continue to do it. We all do. It really is part of our human nature. But there are many things that are natural and instinctual that we exercise will power to overcome. We can do the same with judgments. If we are alert and introspective, we can head off the unnecessary judgments before harmful words can escape our mouths. Now, we cannot necessarily stop the judgments from entering our…

My Coffee Needs Coffee and Crybaby Soup & Link Up On the Edge #91
As I am sitting down to write this post at the final hour, I am really wanting to climb into bed after a hectic day that ended with the most trying of times with my 5 year old. You all know that I don’t like to complain much, especially on my blog, but this is quickly going to turn into a major bitch session. For that I apologize. I will try to inject it with humor at least. In the meantime, would somebody please start cooking up some crybaby soup for me? *This is not a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own. 1. That first paragraph…
