Stepping Out of Summer: 20 of My Favorite Summer Outfits
As the Fall season is upon us and it is still way too hot in northern New York for my perimenopausal self to be donning the latest in autumnal fashions, I thought I would share a little roundup of some of my favorite summer outfits that never made it onto the blog. And if it is still scorching where you live, maybe you will find some late season inspiration as our summer fashion ideas are becoming stale. So to kick off September and the final days of summer…here are some of my favorites from this season! (I generally post my outfits daily on Instagram so if you follow me there,…

Feel the Feels
I am not the best subject to work with for any photographer for a number of reasons. I am super uncomfortable in front of the camera. I am no super model or even minor model, for that matter. I have no idea how to pose. I have never had any kind of training for being in front of a camera. I am so utterly awkward that it borders on the inane! Despite all of these idiosyncrasies of mine, my husband is getting pretty good at capturing decent photos of me! Like the ones in this post…But alas, the military has taken him away. Again! This time he is only about…

A Battlefield, A Restaurant, and A Striped Dress
I suppose it is no secret now that I love striped dresses! (Not that this was ever secret-worthy information.) A lightweight, loose fitting dress made of tee shirt fabric is just the most comfortable attire for a hot sweltering day. I wore this dress on Friday for an afternoon date with my husband. We put the boys in day care for the entire day and we headed out to Sackets Harbor for lunch. (It is no secret either that I love food!) We walked around the battlefield and had some fun taking outfit photos. A Battlefield Image Source The Sackets Harbor Battlefield, which is located on Lake Ontario, was the…

5 Days, 5 Outfits, 3 Style Challenges
I think I have mentioned in previous posts that I like to use Instagram Style Challenges as inspiration for choosing my outfits on days when I have no idea what to wear. I see a lot of IG accounts which combine multiple style challenges into one outfit. It looked kind of fun to me so I decided to choose three different style challenges and combine them all into one outfit every day for the entire week (Monday through Friday). It was a bit challenging, but it certainly got me thinking outside of my personal fashion box. And I ended creating some outfits that I never would have otherwise. Some were…

Scarves are My Thing
Before I started blogging and was researching the entire process, many of my resources were suggesting that I find my signature style and be able to precisely articulate it. This was very difficult for me because I really do not fit into a neat little precisely articulated package in fashion…or in anything really. I like preppy styles. I like vintage fashion. I like current trends. I like bohemian styles. I like throwback hippie clothes. I like chic and sophisticated looks. I like structured pieces. And I like loose flowing items as well. I like shoes. Literally all shoes. I like necklaces and wearing them alone or layered. I only recently…

Favorite Cropped Patterned Pants for Spring
These patterned cropped pants that I recently picked up at the New York & Company Outlet are quickly becoming my favorite pants for Spring. I wore the same pair in a coral paisley pattern on Mother’s Day and they proved to be comfortable for all day wear in a day in the life of a stay at home mom. That itself makes them great, but the adorable patterns and solid colors that are available makes them even better. Unfortunately, try as I might, I simply cannot find a way to view or shop New York & Company Outlet stores online. From my experience, the outlet inventory is very different from…

Thrifted Tweed Blazer
I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and great food. Mine was a quiet, but enjoyable holiday with just myself, my kids, and our roommate, A. I have to admit deployment holidays are kind of a bummer, but we made the best of it. We avoided the hassle of a turkey and had shrimp, steak, ad chicken breast on the grill instead. And it was delicious! I feel rested and rejuvenated and ready to get back to blogging! So, here we go…on with it! I found this gorgeous Talbots tweed blazer in a beautiful autumnal color palette at my local Salvation Army Thrift Store for a…

Candy in my Scarf and Crazy Pants
Readers with children, have you ever heard things come out of your own mouth that you never imagined you would say? Things like, “Please stop licking the bottom of your shoe!” or “No, you may not play in the toilet.” If you have small children or did at one time, you are all too familiar with the very strange happenings that frequently occur! I recently experienced another one of these moments when I got dressed in my crazy pants and decided a heavy scarf was the only cold weather accessory I needed. I am an avid scarf collector and this giant blue knit scarf is one of my absolute favorites.…

Socks, Sandals, and Boho Stripes
I have been wanting to try the socks and sandals trend, but I was a bit nervous about whether I could pull it off. So I kept it simple for a cool Fall day with dark earthy tones. I actually planned this outfit from the feet up! I started with my super long, thick, warm, and cozy burgundy socks paired with my very comfortable footbed sandals in deep brown. Keeping with the autumnal hues, I went with darker wash jeans. I have seen this trend of socks and footbed sandals with skinny jeans, but I just wasn’t feeling skinny jeans this day. I tried it with boyfriend jeans, but it…

Believe in Your Selfie
I suppose the message on my graphic tee speaks volumes, especially for fashion bloggers. A powerful message deserved an edgy look to go with it. So I layered a long plaid button down shirt on top in a traditional blackwatch plaid which is reminiscent of 90’s grunge. My graphic tee is in a very pale shade of blue which contrasted nicely against the darker blues and greens in the plaid. Dark wash skinny jeans, distressed lace-up booties, and layered thin necklaces completed my edgy look. Do you have any graphic tees that really speak to you? If so, what do they say? Keeping it edgy, Shelbee
