Stay Sassy…and Style Art Review

Disclaimer: I was gifted this tee shirt from Style Art in exchange for my review. I received no other compensation and all opinions stated are my own.

Recently, a representative from Style Art contacted me with a request to collaborate. I had no knowledge of the company, but after some research, I discovered that it is a company comprised of graphic artists who use clothing and home décor items as their canvases to display their artwork. Style Art provides a forum for freelance graphic artists to showcase their designs. And I am always game for supporting an artist, especially if the design speaks to me.

I was given the choice of any item available on their website. This was no easy task as it seems like there are thousands of different designs available on many different mediums. I scanned through every single design they had and found quite a few that I would definitely wear. And the prices are reasonable for unique items. But I kept coming back to this “Stay Sassy” design. It is a phrase that I recently took to heart after I went for my super short hair style. I really, truly felt sassy with my new hair, so why not advertise my new personal motto on my chest?!

The items available with the “Stay Sassy” design are the vee neck tee shirt that I chose as well as a tank top, a crop top, a baseball tee, a crew neck tee, a sweatshirt, a coffee mug, iPhone and laptop cases, pillows, bags, hats, and even shoes. The vee neck tee was only available in white or pink with the graphic in black. I figured the white would be easier to style than the pink. I definitely would have preferred a black shirt and in hindsight, I should have picked the black tunic length tank top instead. The white certainly did not hide any of my imperfections!

Also, I ordered a XX-Large which fit more like a women’s Medium. The slim fit did not help my cause of hiding imperfections either! The fabric is 100% cotton but is a small ribbed knit so it does have some stretch. However, whenever I tugged on it (which I was doing often because it was a bit tight), the fabric did not want to resume it’s shape. By the end of taking photos, I just had to tuck it in to hide the results of all of my tugging! Washing instructions say wash inside out on cold and gentle and line dry which is how I would wash an item like this anyway to preserve the integrity of the graphic design. And I really, really like the graphic design on this shirt. This exact tee shirt retails for $18.99 which is a reasonable price for a unique design.

This is how I styled my new sassy shirt:

In keeping with the sassiness of the shirt, I decided loads and loads of pearls would be perfect with a dressy blazer. I tried lots of blazers in my closet and settled on his rich wine colored velvet blazer that I had thrifted years ago. I liked the way the deep wine color played against the black and white and the pearls. I wore my black skinny jeans and these fancy lace up high heeled black boots. I definitely felt sassy for sure!

Blazer: Dress Barn, thrifted many years ago. This Moto Knit Jacket in Fig is adorable! Also, check out this Roz & ALI Corduroy Military Jacket in Wine…so cute! And I am completely lusting for this Red Faux Leather Moto Jacket!

Jeans: Women’s Mid-Rise Jegging by Mossimo for Target.

Boots: Steve Madden. Really, very, very old! Steve Madden currently does not have any boots similar to mine, but these black Donda Boots are screaming SASSY! And these Rikter Boots in Cognac with laces up the back are AMAZING!

Necklaces: So, so old. I basically layered on every strand of pearls that I have collected over the years.

I also wanted to try a kind of “biker-sassy” look so I switched to my distressed black skinny jeans, motorcycle boots (leftover from my pre-kid days of cruising around on the back of J.’s Harley), and my very favorite, very old military inspired denim jacket. I think I felt even sassier in this outfit!

Shirt: c/o Style Art. Exact shirt here.

Jacket: Lane Bryant. Really old. Lane Bryant currently does not have any style of denim jacket like this one. Similar military inspired denim jackets here, here, and here.

Jeans: Rock & Republic Destructed Skinny Jeans for Kohl’s. No longer available. Similar here, here, and here.

Boots: My boots are really old, but they still carry the same style at LeatherUp.com. They are the Xelement 2440 Women’s Classic Motorcycle Advanced Engineer Biker Boot. I sized down a 1/2 size because they do run big.

Necklaces: So, so old. I basically layered on every strand of pearls that I have collected over the years.

A side note: I did feel a bit self-conscious in the shirt due to the very slim fit. After pictures were done, I threw a blue, black, and white plaid flannel button down on top of the tee shirt and I was much more comfortable. However, you could not see the graphic that well worn this way…but you also could not see my muffin top either! So I will most likely style it with a flannel shirt next time I wear it. Also, as I already said, I really love the design since it is my personal motto, so I may consider getting myself the sweatshirt ($49.99), tank top (16.99), and/or coffee mug ($9.99)!

Which style do you like better, the denim jacket or the velvet blazer? How do you like to style a sassy graphic tee?

Keeping it sassy on the edge,

P.S. Some thanks are due!

I owe a great big giant huge THANK YOU to my friend, A.L., for getting behind the camera! I certainly am no model and a very difficult subject to photograph since I am so completely uncomfortable and awkward in these scenarios! But we had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs!

A big thank you to my mother-in-law for keeping all four of the children (mine and A.’s) occupied inside the house in order to prevent little people photo bombing!

A sincere thank you to Simona from Style Art for reaching out to me for a collaboration and tracking down my order when it maybe got lost. Also for walking me through the process since this is my very first collaboration as a blogger! Now I feel legit! (There’s that validation I talked about!)

And here are a few silly moments from our amateur photo session to keep you laughing…because even when sassy, you still need to be able to laugh at yourself!
