Socks, Sandals, and Boho Stripes

I have been wanting to try the socks and sandals trend, but I was a bit nervous about whether I could pull it off. So I kept it simple for a cool Fall day with dark earthy tones. I actually planned this outfit from the feet up!

I started with my super long, thick, warm, and cozy burgundy socks paired with my very comfortable footbed sandals in deep brown. Keeping with the autumnal hues, I went with darker wash jeans. I have seen this trend of socks and footbed sandals with skinny jeans, but I just wasn’t feeling skinny jeans this day. I tried it with boyfriend jeans, but it looked too frumpy for me and I needed a slimmer fit in my pants to balance the chunkiness of the sandals. So straight leg jeans seemed the perfect in-between way to go!

This short sleeve flowy open front kimono style cardigan in earthy-toned stripes was a match made in heaven in sticking with this sort of 90’s hippie boho vibe created by the socks and sandals. I really wanted to layer the sweater over a brown shirt, but I didn’t have one with long sleeves (and browns are really difficult to find this season for some reason. I guess brown is out!). But I had this adorable tie neck blousy tunic in black which also has a bit of boho feel. And why not pair black with brown?! I added a simple mother-of-pearl pendant on a short silver chain and a chunky chocolate brown knit scarf for some extra warmth.

It definitely didn’t turn out to be my favorite outfit of all time, but I was comfortable and cozy all day. I felt sort of collegiate in this combination probably because this trend was in style when I was in college in the 90’s. However, in the 90’s, I definitely was not cool enough to pull off this look although I stared at my boho chic classmates with envy! Perhaps I’m not cool enough now either, but I suppose I don’t really care anymore about my coolness factor! Anyhow, I will definitely wear socks with sandals again when the boho mood strikes!

Sweater: Burlington Coat Factory. No longer available, but other cute options here, here, here, and here.

Tunic: Fort Drum Exchange (old). Similar at Ann Taylor here. Plus size option available at Nordstrom Rack here. J. Jill Seamed Tunic available here.

Jeans: Old Navy Original Straight Jeans.

Sandals: Payless Women’s Robyn Flat Slide in Dark Brown.

Socks: Sock Dreams Long Cuffable Scrunchable Socks in Dark Red. Sock Dreams is one of my favorite places to find unique and fun socks. I bought these socks about 6 years ago and still carry the same style. These measure 40 inches from toe to top and have lots of stretch. At only $14, the quality is really worth it. I have worn these a lot over the past 6 years and they are still in great condition for socks!

Necklace: Very old. Charming Charlie has a nice variety of small pendant necklaces at reasonable prices.

Are there any styles you envied in your younger days? What are they? Have you tried them out lately? How about socks with sandals?
