Pleasantly Plaid in Plum and Navy

Ever since plaid pants hit the punk fashion scene in the 1980’s and I saw Cyndi Lauper rocking them like no one else, I have lusted for a pair of my own. I remember my sister had a pair of red, orange, and yellow plaid skinny pants around that time and I was so jealous. It has taken me over three decades to acquire my own plaid pants, but I finally have them. I didn’t style them in the old school punk rock way (although perhaps next time I will). Instead I took the preppy route. Like super preppy, complete with a navy blue cardigan, bronze ballet flats, and a simple gold necklace.

My plaid pants are in a plum and navy pattern (although Old Navy is calling them “red plaid”). I paired them with a navy blue tank top and a boyfriend cardigan in the same shade. It was still too warm for boots or booties, so I took advantage of the ankle length of the pants and left my ankles bare with some really old, really comfortable bronze ballet flats. I completed the look with a gold laureate style necklace (also very old).

Do you have any contemporary outfit pieces that are reminiscent of your childhood? Any pieces that it took decades to finally acquire? Or any pieces that you have held on to for years that are finally coming back around? Please do share your outfit stories in the comments!
