One for the Playground and a Random Act of Kindness

Two weekends ago, my husband’s BFF, A., and I took his daughter and my boys to the park for a little autumn fun. There was the perfect amount of wind for kite-flying so we went to Carthage Park because they have a nice big open field up on a small hill. The kids were having a blast flying the kite until the kite got stuck in a tree.

A very nice, albeit quite strange, older man (he was at the park with this 4 grandchildren), came to the rescue. He offered to climb the tree and retrieve the kite. I was shocked when he removed his shoes and climbed to the furthest, thinnest branches of the tree in his bare feet! I thought for sure this guy was going to fall out of the tree when he got to those skinny branches! But then again, he probably only weighed 90 pounds (and stood at about 4’11’)! And retrieve our kite he did! However, kite flying was over for the day as the string was broken and the tails were destroyed, but the kite was still in tact for next time! So, thank you, strange little man for the random act of kindness!

What I Wore for Kite-Flying in the Park:

I kept it super casual for the playground, while still feeling good in my clothes. The simple combination of graphic tee, boyfriend jeans, lightweight bomber jacket, and camouflage sneakers! Add a chunky knit scarf to break the chill of the autumn wind and I am a simply-put-together-mom-on-the-go!

A side note about me and graphic tees: I like them but I have a difficult time finding ones that really speak to me. Usually, the sayings on graphic tees either make me cringe or roll my eyes or just think, “That’s not me. I would never wear that.” If I find a graphic tee that doesn’t offend me and the price is right, I may just buy it. Like the one I am wearing here. I found it on the clearance rack at Old Navy. It says “Philosophy of the Heart” and with an extra 30% off clearance items, it cost less than $4. I like the olive green color and the loose boyfriend cut, so now it’s mine and it is perfect for the playground!

Tee: Old Navy Graphic Boyfriend Tee. This exact shirt is currently only available in plus sizes.

Jacket: Old Navy French-Terry Bomber Jacket with Striped Sleeves. Only limited sizes available. But this Faux-Shearling Bomber Jacket is available in all sizes in Fig or Gray.

Jeans: Old Navy Boyfriend Button-Fly Jeans.

Sneakers: Gotta Flurt from Famous Footwear. Very Old. I have never heard of this brand before I owned these sneakers, but they are super comfortable and very reasonably priced. Also, I am having much difficulty finding any camouflage sneakers similar to mine.

Scarf: Claire’s. Very old. If I were looking for a scarf like this today though, I would check Etsy for a hand crafted version. I did a search for “black and white knit scarves” and found a wonderful variety of results.

Moms out there, what is your go-to playground outfit? Do you opt for yoga pants or jeans? Or some other cool, casual, and comfortable combination? Also, have you been the recipient of a random act of kindness lately? I would love to hear your stories!
