Mini Dress or Dress for Mini People?

If you remember a few weeks back, I posted a Weekend Wish List of items from Just Fashion Now with a $150 Giveaway hosted by the company itself. In the midst of moving, I never even got around to checking who the winners were! The winners have been announced on the Just Fashion Now Blog in case you were wondering!

As a thank you from Just Fashion Now for spreading the word about their giveaway, I was allowed to choose an item for myself. I picked this Keyhole Long Sleeve Boho Floral Printed Boho Mini Dress. Here’s the catch on this one…they called this a mini dress! In general, mini dresses are too short for my height and taste. But that never deters me from wearing them. I just layer them over pants or leggings. But this one had me wondering when I received it…

Who exactly did they have in mind when they decided to market this as a dress at all?

I am 5’8″ and this so-called mini dress literally does not even cover my vagina! Yep. I said vagina. A not-covered vagina means that this in no way constitutes a dress! Unless you are a mini person, perhaps.

*This is a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

I did some brief research on what constitutes a dress exactly. And the shortest of all categories of dress is called a micro mini dress. And even this length of dress is defined as the hemline falling several inches above the knee. I could not find a definition of any type of dress where the hemline hits above the vagina. Just for clarification, in case you needed it.

It does cover my bum though!

As I said, however, I usually pair dresses over pants anyway, so styling this piece was not that difficult. I love the flowing style of the top over a wide legged crop pant. But when I put it all together, it was a bit frumpy and needed something to give a little more shape, so I added this blue sweater vest.

I do like the key hole/choker detail of the neckline, though.

I have to say that of all the items I have received in exchange for my honest reviews, this one was the worst. The “dress” looks absolutely nothing like the photo. The color is not the same. I don’t think the floral print is even the same. And it most definitely is not a dress! Not for me anyway.  The band around the arms is much too tight. And the fabric is really kind of unsavory (to put it kindly). I would not recommend purchasing this piece. But that is an irrelevant suggestion anyway as it is currently sold out. Yikes.

But they do have this Full Of Grace Burgundy Asymmetrical Printed Dress available which looks like the exact same one with a different name.

I do want to add this, however.  I have been working quite a bit with these clothing companies based in China. I have received many items and I have been quite surprised and pleased with the quality of the pieces. Especially with respect to the price points. So this one bad review probably will not deter me from buying pieces that I love. I mean, we all have bad buys in our closets anyway, don’t we? In fact, so much so that Nancy and I co-host a series where you can share your bad buys with us for a feature on our blogs! You can read more about The Bad Buy Book right here! Next month’s theme is Jewelry!

So what are your thoughts? Mini dress? Dress for mini people? Or not even a dress at all?

Keeping it real on the edge,
