Little Bits of Inspiration #6

I haven’t published a Little Bits of Inspiration post since November mostly because I was over ambitious and trying to compose this post weekly. When I couldn’t keep up with it, I got overwhelmed and gave up on it. But after a nice long blogging break which included a lot of thinking and planning, I decided I really like writing this post but maybe I should aim for a monthly instead of weekly publication. So here it is again…the 6th installment of little bits of inspiration that I have found on the internet.

But first, I want to share what happened back in November when I was trying to draft my next post and probably part of why I temporarily abandoned this concept. I went online searching for an image about being nice. Much to my chagrin, when I entered a Google search for “being nice memes”, I was bombarded with pages upon pages of negativity and sarcasm. Images with sayings like, “Please stop being nice to me so I can get back to hating you” and “Welcome to the world where being nice never gets you anywhere.” And these, “I tried being nice…didn’t like it” and “Being nice to people is just like smoking. It’s best if you never start it.” I found myself getting so aggravated and even angry, but then I had to check myself because that is not what I am about.

Before I started blogging, I followed blogs. I was so inspired by the way all of these female bloggers praise, uplift, and empower one another. I found this online community that didn’t reek of negativity, but rather sustained itself on only the positive. What has our world come to if we search for “nice” (literally) on the internet and find only “not nice”? I don’t like it. So I am going to do my little part and continue praising and recognizing the people who inspire and uplift me. The nice people. And to hell with all of you negative nay-sayers. I’m just going to ignore you.

And here are the nice people who have inspired me this month.

1. KaSonndra Leigh of Live Well Be Fabulous is a fashion and lifestyle blogger from North Carolina. I only recently discovered her fabulous blog and I was moved by her post A Fashion Story African Safari where she not only showcases an amazing pair of pants from a brand that she enthusiastically supports due to its support of a great cause, but she also eloquently identifies the audience that she wishes to inspire…”I write for the single mom who loves fashion, life, and her kids but who also thinks she can’t afford the magazine stuff. I’m here to tell you that you most certainly can look good and feel great at the same time. I write for the wife whose kids may or may not be at home and she’s looking for a way to affordably revamp her image and to create a purposeful life. I write for the college student who wants to look good but needs to know what’s comfy along with affordable as she takes on discovering her place in the world each day. And finally, I write for the working woman who embraces the spirit of individuality and brings that unique sense of personality to her lifestyle.” If you are looking for fantastic fashion advice as well as wonderful inspiration, definitely stop by and visit KaSonndra. You won’t regret it!

2. Rania of The Wardrobe Stylist is a fitness, beauty, home décor, and DIY blogger based out of Ottawa, Canada. She is also a designer of menswear and accessories. She is another blogger whom I only recently discovered and I was so inspired by her post Losing Baby Weight 4 Pregnancies & 3 Kids Later where she documents her weight loss journey and shares the method that worked for her. If you are struggling with post-baby weight issues or just body image, this post is definitely worth reading!

3. Ashley of Sed Bona is a Chicago-based blogger who writes about her passions: photography, fashion, and food. If you struggle with confidence in styling yourself or have yet to figure out what your style is, Ashley’s 5 Ways to Gain Style Confidence are excellent tips for helping you identify your own personal sense of fashion. Ashley is another blogger I very recently discovered but I am already a loyal reader!

4. I have been a faithful follower of Catherine of Not Dressed as Lamb for about a year now. She is a fashion blogger from South West England who challenges the notion of age appropriate dressing and has started the #iwillwearwhatilike movement in attempt to get all women to dress how they like regardless of what society and media attempt to dictate. I am always inspired by Catherine’s posts and her sense of fashion generally leaves me swooning! Her post 9 Fashion Bloggers With a Really Unique Sense of Style highlights nine other fabulous bloggers who will help boost your own confidence for dressing outside of your comfort zone and challenging the concept of “appropriateness”. Not only is this post inspiring, it’s just fun! And it’s Catherine’s unknowing contribution to my movement of “propagating the positive”!

5. Finally, The Fashion Folks is a fun and inspirational place where they view fashion as art and explore all the layers that fashion encompasses from the viewpoint of history and culture as well as societal development. This site is super fun and interesting for any fashion lover. I found their post highlighting 5 Fashion Movies really entertaining round up of some of the best movies where fashion is front and center. If you are a fashionista looking for inspiration or information about fashion, you definitely want to check out this blog!

    Shelbee, you’ve made my day!

Thank you so so much for the kind and generous words of The Fashion Folks. I am so happy that you love the site and you enjoyed the post! It’s easy to forget that the work you put behind something actually can have a lovely and lasting impact on people. It’s quite one sided on the internet sometimes unfortuanetly!

And the best way to meet negativity is definitely to spread positive vibes (which you definitely did in this post!). Meet the hate with love, even though it can feel hopeless sometimes. But you certainly reminded me of spreading more positive vibes! Xx

Thanks so much, Mia! It was my pleasure! It is just my little contribution to try to keep the negativity out! Sometimes it’s hard to keep my positivity ship afloat in a sea of negativity, but gosh darn it, I sure am going to give it my best shot!!!! I think it happens so often thought where you inspire someone and you never even know it, but it is important to let them know sometimes. So that’s what I am doing. Thanks for stopping by!

That is actually one of my favourite things about blogging, the uplifting manner in which we support each other.
Thanks for sharing these, I’d wish I’d seen the Fashion Folks blog earlier as just this weekend I went to a party where I personified Audrey Hepburn, it would have been of great help 🙂
